She was lucky. It seems there was a gap between the core and the outer bands where the weather was less severe. That is what passed over her. Heavier damage to the north and south.
Thank you. I spoke with her a bit ago. The storm made landfall not far to the south of her in Georgetown, SC. Fortunately it seems she was in a less powerful part of the storm. She had no damage, didn't lose power and pond did not overflow its banks while to both the north and south there was flooding and mayhem. She said the sun was actually shining while we were on the phone. So while not the best of birthdays it wasn't a terrible one either.
Hi Albert, the day went well for the most part though is typical a migraine developed this afternoon. I'm resting quietly and fretting slightly over the news that Ian has again become a hurricane before making expected landfall on the GA/SC border.
Actually, we're not likely to experience more that some light to moderate rain here in PA. Mum however, will see heavy, potentially flooding rains tomorrow. Not a pleasant way to celebrate her 87th birthday. There's also the threat of storm surge along the immediate coast but this storm should not be severe enough for that to effect her. She is due to fly north Monday evening
Both sad and happy, not saying more because, well, I don't want to spoil the full effect. If you've read other of Gary's stories this will be exactly what you've come to expect from my friend's romantic soul. If this is your first time reading his work you'll come to understand his following of devoted readers.
Hi Albert. I'm okay. My head aches but I'm a bit less stressed. Dad's heart valve replacement yesterday went well and he came home this afternoon. My uncle and cousins in Naples, FL survived the hurricane. By the time it was known the track had shifted it was too late to evacuate so they had to shelter in place. My uncle lost power but was able to go to my cousin's who has a generator. No damage to their homes at 5:45 pm. Haven't heard from the d-i-l in Tampa. Though I think things there aren't as bad as initially feared. Need to see how things go for mum. Expecting several inches of rain and potential storm surge there.
