    Chapter 6

Looks like I was wrong about Han. I think that in this chapter the escape strains credulity a little. Not that Jiro is the brightest bulb on the tree, but to leave them alone and without guard? Maybe this small part needs to be re-worked a little (for example, perhaps SarEr takes the call from Han and is warned before Jiro and his henchmen reach him). It might be more difficult to get Mei's mother away, but maybe SarEr could work out a story (e.g. arranged transfer to another hospital). Except for that one small bit, it really is a very involving story!

    Chapter 5

What Yettie said! And I have to wonder about Han's role in all this. Jiro doesn't sound like the type to do things with no approval

    Chapter 4

Oooh, the plot thickens! I'm wondering about the names and nationalities, though. If one half is Italian, what's the other half? Why is Niad based in Japan? Why do the three sons have French, Italian and English first names? Guess I need to keep reading

    Chapter 3

Still progressing nicely! SarEr's frustration is well-portrayed, as is his inability to sustain real anger against his father, which you show by him thinking about missing his father's smile. I like the juxtaposition that he get his name tattooed on his wrists, as a sign of his individuality, when it's who he is that also keeps him in a gilded cage.

    Chapter 2

I like how SarEr called him stupid. It's been a looooong time since I was a teenager, but the trash-talk is as I remember it. Doesn't matter how you really feel, you don't show it. I like how the story is unfolding and the balance of narrative and dialogue feels just right to me.

    Chapter 4: New York

I think it's like the joke with the guy that's fallen overboard, and keeps on refusing offers of help from passing ships, because his god will save him. I'm not a pie-eyed romantic by any stretch, but I truly believe that life gives you many chances to be happy; the problem is that they sometimes don't take the form you expect, so you miss them. Thanks for your feedback, Sam!

Amen to that, Dave. Unfortunately it's a lesson we all have to learn at our own pace. Thank you for reading!

    Fathers and Sons

I went though some of the same, Wayne, and I can only send you the Greek wish "May it soon pass." Unfortunately older parents often resist our efforts to help them, and it doesn't have much to do with the quality of the prior relationship, I don't think. What might be different is that those of us that had more difficult relationships feel guiltier, when we get impatient or upset with our parents, for not accepting our help when they should. I spoke about that to my sister at the time; she's always had a good relationship with my dad, but she was just as upset at him as I was. In fact she used the word "angry", which is how I'd felt but hadn't wanted to admit even to myself. So go easy on yourself.
  11. Just three: Maurice, Leaves of Grass, and Color Purple. I'd heard of a couple or the children's books because of the controversy surrounding them at the time, but never actually read the books myself. I wonder if they're still controversional today; unfortunately I'm pretty sure what the answer to that question is.

    The Shard

I like the groovy era buildings. If you think back, it was when people thought we'd colonize space and be flying around like the Jetsons by the end of the 20th century, and there's that sort of graphic novel feeling to a lot of these buildings. I love that architecture, as much as any other art form, can reflect the psyche and dreams of a certain time period.
  14. I sit on the side of the pool, my legs dangling over the side into the water, and watch Alex swim laps. My nephew is sixteen this year, and in two weeks he'll be starting his last year of high school. He has his father's blond coloring and stocky body, and his mom's sweet disposition. I love hearing from my sister how popular he is in school; it does my heart good. Alex hoists himself out of the water to sit next to me. “How long are you going to be here, Uncle Joe?” “Until next Sunday. Then I

    Chapter 1

Aww, I started this too late, and won't be able to read further tonight. Good and intriguing start, though, and you've put a lot of information out there already, without whacking us over the head with it. And like Yettie says, a new geographic and cultural environment for me, so I'm enjoying that aspect, as well
  17. C definitely. Always. Have no idea why, either, unless it's because my first embarassing instinct is to start going "uh huh, uh huh" like I'm a member of the porn chorus, which is what I call those ten guys in porn movies, generally dressed in leather and standing around a sling, whose only purpose seems to be to monotonously chant "Uh huh. Uh huh. Ooooh, yeah! Uh huh" for the entire film.

    Chapter 4: New York

I'd say people do realize that they'd rather have somebody around than not. And interestingly enough, in my experience at least, it's the people that have been in really good relationships that quickly find someone new (when you'd think they'd be the ones to pine for their past loves). I think it's maybe because they understand the rewards of sharing a life and find it harder to adapt to being alone again.

    Chapter 3: Athens

Well, this is the first time I've been told my fics remind someone of Bergman It's funny, I always get my MCs to where they're about to live HEA, and then I think it's not interesting after that, because who wants to read about people bickering about everyday life like ... well, like the SO and I do. But now that you point it out, they don't do much that's different before the HEA either! I have to ruminate on that a bit.

Thanks, Gene! And I followed your suggestion about the forum, too, so thank you for that, as well.

    Chapter 3: Athens

Although I haven't made any radical changes, this is a better version, I think. Or at least one with fewer typos. Patience, it's only 5 chapters total. But thank you!

    Chapter 2: London

Thank you! And yeah, I don't think we get much wiser in affairs of the heart (at least I haven't) or even much braver.

    Chapter 2: London

And really, who DOESN'T love the twenty-twinkies, I ask you! Glad you're enjoying it! I aim for reality, but one where the MCs never run out of clean underwear (unless it's a plot device that could lead to some interesting character exploration . . . )

  25. The headquarters of my company are in New York City, and every September the accounting directors of all the subsidiaries and international operations meet for a week-long conference that would bore most normal people into a coma, but which we eagerly anticipate, and not only because of the venue. Hell, even the guys based in New York look forward to it. Benny Siegel also looks forward to it, not because he works for our company or is an accountant, but because he lives and works in Manhattan,
