    Prologue

The Labyrinthine Way Prologue The room had the patina of neglect that I had come to associate with public-service offices over the last two years. All the cues were familiar now, hard-won intelligence from a long-fought campaign: the paint a nondescript shade of not-quite-grey, with great patches flaking away. My favourite room of all was one I was in a year ago belonging to Social Services that had contained a random poster of Beethoven, attached to paint so thick and decayed it was peeli
  2. Chris Ryan has hit rock bottom and started to dig. Lost in a labyrinth of pain he no longer knows how to leave, he has lost the ability to hope. How did he get here and can he get out? This is his story.

Thanks Stephen. Glad you liked it and the underwater ferret wrestling. They will be in jelly next time

    Chapter 1

Thanks hillij. Yes, I have some ideas for the boys for the future, they are likely to come out in future anthology issues. I must have had the same band master; I was lead oboe so the band would tune up to me playing A 440, and it always sounded bad, he would just shrug his shoulders, say "close enough for jazz" and continue !

    Chapter 1

Thank carrington. I went deliberately humorous here compared with most of my other work, but hopefully the genuine emotions still shine through. Someties humour allows us to explore things easier and i found that the case for these two, I needed humpur to let them speak partly because that is the only way teenage guys in Australia usually express themselves.

    Chapter 1

Thanks dariyo. Someties even seemingly bad things are just what we need to get it out in the open. Ive had a few serendipitous experiences in my life I must admit Im gad you liked it and hopefully I can tempt you with more stories in future.

    Chapter 1

Thanks Frosty. I think we will see them again, and maybe Callum can even be noble once or twice I am thinking of keeping them for Anthology pieces so we will see if they make an appearance later this year.

    Chapter 1

Thanks Lisa, glad you liked it and the twist worked for you. Callum is based on someone I kn ow, but also an amalgam of a few people and an attempt to write a character who isnt immediately appealing but grows on you. Im glad you didnt hate him totally As to the caning, its much more recent in Victoria particularly in some independent schools than people realise.

    Chapter 1

Thanks Beloved. As for the caning, well in some schools in Victoria its not such a distant memory. Im glad you liked it, yes I liked to keep the suspense going but eventually Callum had his moment to shine

Thanks Sam Hopefully the boys can get another chance to tell their story soon.

  12. Thanks so much for your hard work Renee! I am so grateful to be able to be part of my first anthology, as a writer it is so amazing to have this opportunity to be alongside so many other authors all on the one theme. Your efforts are very much appreciated. Roan

    Chapter 1

Thanks for that Lily, and glad I lightened your day. As to the caning, well it was removed from Victorian state schools under John Cain (oh the irony), but some independent schools maintained it at least until very recently, including St Michaels in St Kilda. A friend from University went there and lets say provided some inspiration for the piece.

    I Am Beautiful

So true Cyn. I love the honesty and the hope, flipsides of vulnerability. You have captured it all so well.

    Chapter 1

Serendipity. The dulcet tones of Mr. Roland hammered in my ears. Someone should really tell him that a bland monotone delivered at foghorn volume was a bad choice for a teacher, even a history teacher determined to keep his students awake. Part of me itched to tell him, but while I’m a cheeky bastard by general consensus, I’m also known for picking my moments. So far, it has served me well. I had an entirely undeserved reputation among the teaching staff as generally a “good boy”, studious
  21. Callum Davies is a lovable rogue, or at least that's what people tell him. His comfortable life takes a turn though when he falls for his best mate, the straight and serious Jake. Fate plays strange tricks sometimes, and never more so than when it comes to love. Will it help or hinder Callum's quest to work out what to do about Jake?

    Chapter 1

Amazing as always Bee. Your raw honesty shines through, and your willingness to put even hard things up there. Your language though is also stunning, and the way you use the metre and the structure to build the sense of clautrophobia followed by running into the open. You are a beautiful artist. Don't ever change Bee.

    Ties That Bind

heh heh glad for that Tom. I guess here I was trying to start with a love scene but with the emotions underpinning it that would drive the story later. Hopefully they remain as exctiting as well as developing as characters.
