    Chapter 4

Three Hearts By Andrew Todd Chapter 4 Brice woke in a cold sweat. The room was dark and quiet except for Milo’s snoring. Brice had given up trying to convince the dog to sleep on the floor. He was now simply trying to get the dog to work on his ‘personal space’ issues, but so far that wasn’t working, so most mornings he woke up with Milo closely pressed up against him. His mind was going a hundred miles an hour. The dreams were back and stronger than ever. In the last month, he had still

    Chapter 3

Three Hearts By Andrew Todd Chapter 3 Justin and Brice walked out of the locker room one afternoon after gym class. “Hey, you wanna come back out to my grandparents’ tomorrow afternoon?” Justin asked. “Bray was pissed that I didn’t bring him that Sunday afternoon and he’s been driving me crazy, so I told him I would take him over after school tomorrow since we don’t have practice.” “Sure, do you mind if Cody comes too?” Brice asked. “When I told him about going out there, he told me how

    Chapter 2

Thanks, Lisa. This is the first time I've used me New England roots in my stories (born and raised in New Hampshire)...but for whatever reason it felt right for my 'homeland' to be a part of this story...
  5. Music is the great 'equilizer' for me...always improves my mood or augments depending on how I feel...used to have a roommate in college who told me he knew whether or not it was 'safe' to enter the room depending on what type of music was coming from behind the door...this was long before I knew about or acknowledged my depression...apparently without even being conscious of it I would play certain types of music when I was depressed and he would recognize those and stay away... I still use music, though now I'm more aware so I know what will brighten my mood... my other great stress reliever (no surprise to anyone whose read my stories) is horseback riding...my friends and I always refer to our trail rides as 'equine therapy'.

    Chapter 2

Three Hearts By Andrew Todd Chapter 2 Brice lay in bed Sunday morning. Milo had his body shoved up against his new master. Brice had tried to show the dog the bed that he had prepared for him in the corner of the room, but every time he woke up, Milo was on the comforter sleeping next to him. Brice had not slept much. He usually didn’t remember his dreams, but all he could think of were the two alternating dreams that had filled his mind all through the night. In the first dream, he was
  7. Got ahead of myself and marked the story as 'Complete'...Chapter 23 will post tonight...that is the last chapter for this book...next book will start later this spring...so the book "Lessons Learned" is done...the story is far from complete...
  8. Lessons Learned By Andrew Todd Chapter 22 “We passed the exit for the Hollis Mall five miles back,” Dusty said. “So do you want to tell me where we are really going?” “And spoil the surprise?” Zak answered with a smirk. “Well, how much farther, then?” “We have about another twenty or thirty minutes.” “Wait…” Dusty said. “When are you planning to get home? Late tonight?” “We’re not going back till Sunday afternoon.” “No, I have lessons scheduled tomorrow.” “No, you don’t. CJ and Mat
  9. Lessons Learned By Andrew Todd Chapter 23 The weekend before Christmas, the new house was ready for the boys to move in. The high school boys took Friday off from school since it was only a half day anyway. Most of the house was decorated with new furnishings, so there wasn’t much ‘moving in’ to do, just a lot of organizing. The interior decorator that CJ and Danny had hired had taken care of the common areas like the kitchen, living room and family room. She had also had her team decor

    Chapter 1

Three Hearts By Andrew Todd Chapter 1 Brice Matthews stood in front of the small school building and silently cursed his father for deciding to accept a new job and move them right before his senior year. He had spent eleven years maneuvering the Prince William County school district in Northern Virginia; he knew who to avoid, who to befriend and how to stay out of trouble. Now, when he was a year away from escape, his father decided to throw him this curve. Brice knew he couldn’t reall

  12. As heard on 'Wait, Wait Don't Tell Me' this weekend: "Two words you don't want to here when talking about condoms: 'Micro' & 'Soft'."
  13. Lessons Learned By Andrew Todd Chapter 21 CJ slammed down the phone as Sarge walked into the office. “Problem?” Sarge asked. “I’ve been trying to get a nanny/housekeeper hired for the last week. Every time I find one I like and I have Doug run the background check he finds something,” CJ sighed. “You’d think I could find one person I liked to watch Idgie that didn’t appear on ‘America’s Most Wanted’.” “I might be able to help you with that,” Sarge said. “That would be great, what do y
  14. Lessons Learned By Andrew Todd Chapter 20 Dylan squirmed in the overstuffed chair. It was the day before Thanksgiving and all his friends were at the ranch getting ready for a trail ride while he was stuck at his therapist’s office for his monthly appointment. Zak had assured him that they would wait for him, but that did not make the hour-long appointment any less excruciating. He was happy that he had managed to convince his mother and Jean, his therapist that he could get by on once
  15. Lessons Learned By Andrew Todd Chapter 19 “When you say ‘Life Happened’, are you being euphemistic?” asked Dr. Sadler. Danny laughed. “No, I mean it quite literally…” *** When Danny, CJ and Jesse got home from dinner, Abigail was pacing in the kitchen waiting for them. “CJ!!” she called. “I didn’t have your cell phone number. Jo called; you need to get to the hospital.” “Why?” “Sam’s in labor. The baby’s coming.” CJ looked at Danny. “Let’s go,” he said as he ran back out the door.
  16. Lessons Learned By Andrew Todd Chapter 18 Danny sat on the couch in Dr. Sadler’s office. He had started seeing her for therapy when he moved to town and tried to get in at least once a week. He and CJ had just returned from Ocala. They had planned to be home well before Halloween; instead it was Thanksgiving week. Dr. Sadler sat in a recliner across from the couch Danny was sitting on. The room was more like someone’s living room than a doctor’s office. There was no desk or stiff office-
  17. DC!! I've walked away from Marvel many times...right now I read a few books from the (Young Avengers & Hickman's Avengers), but I hate Brian Michael Bendis...he is the most over-rated writer in all of comics...so long as Marvel gives him so much power, I'll stick with DC...Been a Batman, Robin, Nightwing freak since birth...I'll take the Justice League over the Avengers any day...
  18. Wow!! My sincere and humble thanks to all that nominated and voted for 'Riding Lessons'. And my congratualtions to the other nominees and winners. What great company to be in.
  19. Jesse: A ‘Riding Lessons’ Interlude By Andrew Todd Jesse Osterman’s earliest memories were of horses. His mother, Elizabeth, was a trainer in Wellington, Florida. Jesse was almost born in a barn, but Elizabeth made it to the hospital just in time. Much gossip was floated around the inner circles of Wellington society when an unmarried, seemingly unattached Elizabeth Osterman became pregnant. There were those who thought that maybe Elizabeth didn’t know who the father of her child was o
  20. Jesse is the son of a single mom growing up in Wellington, FL. He is bullied in school until he meets Seb, who becomes his protector and best friend. But during the wort summer of his life, Jesse finds himself alone and unprotected facing pain and loss he never expected.
  21. Lessons Learned By Andrew Todd Chapter 17 Dusty knelt next to the convulsing Zak. Thinking quickly he reached into his pocket and pulled out his keychain. His keychain had a long flat metal piece that advertised a local feed supply store. Not wanting Zak to accidentally bite his tongue while he was seizing, Dusty took the keychain and slid it between Zak’s teeth, this way if his teeth clenched he would not bite off his tongue or do any other damage. Dusty felt helpless watching Zak. He t

    Chapter 1

    Thanks. A 'wife-beater' is a sleeveless undershirt.
  23. Lessons Learned By Andrew Todd Chapter 16 “Oww,” Zak moaned as he slowly opened his eyes. He sat up slowly, his whole body ached. He tried moving his arms and legs to make sure nothing was broken or sprained. Everything seemed to move ok, they just all hurt. He looked up and down the trail and saw no sign of Zephyr. She had probably bolted back to the barn. He didn’t know how long he had been out for. “Well,” he said to himself as he slowly stood up. “Looks like I’m walking.” He sl
  24. Lessons Learned By Andrew Todd Chapter 15 Tanner took a deep breath and let it out slowly. Dylan reached over and rubbed his back--he could feel the muscles bunching up and tightening in Tanner’s back. Dylan knew exactly how he felt. “When Dylan stopped coming to the farm and stopped talking to me at school, I was lost,” Tanner started. “We had been best friends since we were seven or eight--we had done everything together. We rode together, we trained together, had sleepovers.” He looke
  25. Lessons Learned By Andrew Todd Chapter 14 “Tanner!!” Dylan yelled in surprise. “What are you doing here?” Tanner just grinned and ran to Dylan. He grabbed Dylan in a bear hug and lifted his friend off the ground. “I missed you,” Tanner said, his voice choking with emotion. “Put me down,” Dylan laughed. Tanner complied and Dylan hugged him hard. “I’ve missed you, too,” Dylan said. “It’s great to see you, but who…how…?” Dylan looked around, his eyes landing on Zak, who nodded. “Well,
