  1. If I go somewhere I have to room or share a bed with someone who isn't Magpie, I miss sleeping in the nude. Other than that, I tend to miss my instruments, and I miss cooking my own food sometimes when I'm staying in hotels and the like. And I miss my polar bear. Yes, I still sleep with a stuffed animal... He's a little baby polar bear that I got in the mail when I did the adopt a polar bear thing through WWF. Since Magpie isn't a snuggle-up-while-sleeping type of person, I snuggle up with the polar bear. I never bring him when I travel, though. I figure it'll look stupid.
  2. Happy Birthday!
  3. That doesn't mean it's not something to work towards, though. Will we eliminate discrimination/inequality/racism/homophobia/misogyny entirely? Probably not. But look how far we've come already. We keep fighting, we keep making the world a better place, and hopefully one day, decent people will so far outnumber bigots that the bigots no longer have a say.
  4. They haven't been so far, but the thought has crossed my mind. We'll see what happens on that front. Thanks for reviewing! Glad you're still enjoying the story.
  5. Thank you! Happy New Year!
  6. I love bad double entendres like that. Also quite proud of the outing. Dave has evolved a lot. He's definitely going places. Thanks for the review! Happy New Year! Glad you enjoyed the chapter.
  7. CHAPTER SIX You Don't Care About Us ‘That’s not the way I taught you to do that, Nick,’ said Owen, shaking his head. ‘Again.’ Nick glared at his guitar teacher. ‘What for?’ he asked. ‘It sounds the same.’ ‘But you’re holding your fingers all wrong,’ said Owen exasperatedly. ‘The way you’re doing it requires a lot more energy than the way I’ve told you to do it, and it’s sloppy technique.’ ‘This way is much easier for me,’ Nick argued. ‘I mean, have you seen my hands? I have t
  8. I'm looking forward to reading it! As for self-promotion, I can suggest Twitter and Tumblr as good places to start. Follow people who look like they might be interested, post updates, characters profiles, talk about your progress and see if people follow you back. I see from your website that you've given e-mail addresses to all your characters, so individual twitter accounts for them might be a fun idea once you get going a bit. They can converse with each other about what's going on in the story. Be liberal with posting links to any social media sites you're a member of, though preferably without seeming like you're spamming. Just give it your best shot and see what happens!
  9. But then again, the Ancient Greeks proved the Earth was round using Mathematics over 2000 years ago...
  10. That would kind of exclude a lot of the people who have contributed to this thread... Just saying.
  11. True. Leif Erikson got there before him, and a good 10-20,000 years before that some people came over from Siberia during the ice age. America's been discovered for a long time.
  12. I don't really see why you couldn't post that story here, to be honest. You say yourself that it focuses on some queer themes. I do not believe that it's a requirement for stories posted on GA to all contain relationships or blatantly out there LGBT themes. That said, as Scotty suggested, FictionPress is a place where you can post original fiction of any variety (though it can be hard to sort out the good from the bad). I've also had some success with some of my original works on AO3. It's primarily a fanfiction site, but there's an 'Original Works' tag that more and more people post under these days. I think you should just post it here, though. I'm sure lots of people would enjoy it, the premise seems interesting.
  13. I dunno... A friend of mine has a tattoo of a vegetarian Zombie on his leg. 'Graaaaaains....' Some may consider that silly, or for comedic purposes, but he got it because he's a vegetarian, and he thought it was a fun image. I totally support the idea that a tattoo artist should make sure that a person has properly thought things through, but isn't it a little bit arrogant to act as some kind of taste-police? If people want to give you money to tattoo something that they really want on their bodies, and if that is your job, who are you to decide whether their choice is frivolous or silly?
  14. Well, men just used to mean people. It's likely that the word woman comes from the word wife-man, while men used to be called war-men. At least that's what I was told by a linguist once.
  15. I have absolutely no idea. But Magpie's parents have a bottle of Tabasco from the early 90s.
  16. It's very important that those of us in the LGBT community in the Industrialised world understand how privileged we are. And it's also important that we realise that even within our own countries and communities, there are people who have a much harder time with regards to their sexuality and coming out than we may have had ourselves. My mother is an extremely openminded and liberal person, but she is also quite religious, and coming out to her has not been an easy thing to do. For all that, I will never forget how incredibly lucky and privileged I really am in all this. For one, I will never be judged, persecuted or denied employment because of my sexuality, and for another I get to live in a culture where the chance that someone will try to hurt me or openly deride me for my sexuality is very small. We also mustn't forget the other injustices that are left even in our countries, though. Stereotyping, gay jokes, there are a lot of things we let slide because we've just gotten used to it and it's not so bad. But I won't consider LGBTQ equality to be at an acceptable level until these issues have been dealt with as well, until gay characters on TV are people and not just comic relief, until you can have gay major characters in fiction and popular culture where the fact that they're gay isn't a big deal and doesn't turn the work in question into a 'gay' work, a special interest thing.
  17. Lol, your phonetic spelling is so cute, Sasha! Godt nytt år!
  18. Congrats, Jo Ann!
  19. Lou Reed. <3
  20. I dunno, I don't think Amanda Palmer's Glastonbury tit was planned, that just sort of, well, happened. And she didn't care, but the Daily Mail thought it was super huge news (they called that a wardrobe malfunction as well). The nakedness at the gig in London, when she performed her response to the Daily Mail, was definitely planned, though.
  21. See, the term 'wardrobe malfunction', to me that just sounds like a closet fell on you...
  22. And more you shall get, in a couple of days. Perhaps I'll find time to update while getting over the inevitable New Year's hangover. Thanks, as ever, for reviewing, and I'm glad you're still enjoying the story!
  23. I have to agree with Johnathan, I'm afraid. I see it kind of like a wimpy mohawk, to be honest. Like, you haven't got the guts to get a proper 'hawk, so you go for a kind of compromise-thing instead. I prefer sidecuts, and as a general rule I think undercuts like the one above look better on girls. But whenever you take a punky haircut and try to make it mainstream, it ends up looking kind of weak, and you end up looking like a douchebag. The moment the haircut is combined with something a little more edgy, like piercings or a cool dye-job or some tattoos, it's a different matter entirely.
  24. Dave is a pretty tragic character, isn't he? Mandi's mum is in part based on the mother of a friend of mine. In general, the concept of tiny, scary Indian mum is a fun one to me. Thanks so much for reviewing! Glad you're enjoying the story.
  25. Thanks!
