    Embers 14

Driving home yesterday, I was tempted to stop at a rest stop to read the chapter but those places have a reputation and I was scared someone e may try to molest me. Could there be more like her? Maybe subsequent rains and floods were due to to a water Elemental? Is there someone in Australia who pissed off the Elementals High Council? Loved this chapter months ago, and a new reading didn't diminish that.
  2. Nope. I'm not writing more of the sappy/mushy stuff. Coincidentally, yesterday while driving home, I was plotting a story with a little romance in it. I realized my objection's not so much to a sappy scene here and there. I've written plenty of those. But an entire story based on a torturous road to a couple ending together usually makes me barf. I prefer small doses sprinkled through a lot of other stuff. Usually more realistic than two people meeting and being in love a couple of hours later. A couple of people meeting and boinking a couple of hours later is acceptaple, though.
  3. LMAO Four of them actually. Plus assorted, similarly aged boyfriends. My brother, his wife, and the parents of two of those girls (my nieces besties) had a party Friday night to celebrate their law school graduation. Since my brother's the only one living in Atlanta, it was at their place. The aforementioned boyfriend may not be around much longer.
  4. Thanks, Jeff. This story was meant to show Ritch stepping into adulthood, and I wanted to show how family can influence the way we turn out. Lessons learned at home, whether we realize it or not, are the foundation for the values we hold when we fly on our own.
  5. Gratuitous sex? Moi? LOL Too often, we question why the abused doesn't just walk away, without us realizing how difficult it can be. The moment disagreements turn into physical abuse it's time, and I did not want Cristina to go through it twice. She might make excuses trying to salvage the marriage, but Chipper's tough love will probably save her, and in some ways her daughter, from possibly worse. At times, particularly when it's family, I think it's fine to meddle and be pushy.
  6. I loved using Milwaukee as the setting for this chapter. I figured CJ and Harley could further their bonds using their interests as the basis. It was also good to share some of the places I've been to and enjoyed. Milwaukee's a beautiful city. Harley sticks wround for a while.
  7. Thank you, Erik. That's what I was shooting for. Glad it worked.
  8. Next time I have them in Malibu, you should come for a visit. I'm sure I can find you a spot in the rotation. LOL Mann helped a lot w/the VW by insisting I simplify. Glad you liked the finished product.
  9. Thank you, my man. Before we look at their future, we'll revisit some of the events in this book from CJ's point of view. I plan to flesh out things like the family Christmas in Vail and the Cadets' spring break in Cancun adding details I wanted to save. Both of those I finished without including interactions between CJ and Ritch, or CJ and a couple of cadets.
  10. Two years before, when Ritch and his crew were in Cancun, there was a little drama. I wanted this second group trip to be all about college kids letting go and having a good time.
  11. Thanks, Tor!
  12. Thanks, Jose. Some of these characters feel just as real to me and I do consider them family members. I can only dream the real world would function as well as the one I write about.
  13. Crap, don't even think about spinoffs from a spinoff story. LOL Too much on my plate already. I do plan to retain some of the characters introduced in this story and incorporate them into future encounters. Only fuzzy ideas so far as to who, when, and how. I'm certain some of The Wing will be part of a President CJ Abello administration.
  14. Commissioning as a Second Lieutenant in the United States Air Force and graduation. LOL
  15. You guys are gonna make me blush. Thanks, bud.
  16. Thank you, Theo. It's always a treat to hear readers enjoy my work.
  17. You, better than most, know even if one story arc ends, another one will pop up sooner or later. I think CJ may have been Ritch's inspiration in his misdirection scheme.
  18. Thanks, Parker. I wanted to use the Malibu location and this was my final opportunity before the guys graduated. And having Mitch take a walk on the wild side was to tempting to resist.
  19. No masks required. Covid 19 does not exist in the CJ-Verse. I'm at my brother's house in Atlanta this weekend. One of our conversation topics yesterday was the new restrictions on ballot access passed by both GA and FL. One of my nieces' the most liberal person in the family, she was a Bernie Bro, she'll be doing Teach for America this fall, and plans to join the fight in her new home state.
  20. Interesting points you bring up. Ritch will visit Wyoming but not Brokeback Mountain. Homophobia and misogyny will both play a role in the story.
  21. Body fat measurements are a better guide. I know that's what I used a decade ago when I was at the gym almost every day and I was eating right. My Dr said BMI wasn't a good indicator for people with a muscular build. Bitting's too white bread looking and Phippen's too small for my taste. We can go out together, no competing for the same guy. LOL

    Open Call

Alexis? I may still be a little drunks and stoned. I haven't mapped out That much of Chipper's career, but he will definitely be spending time in LA. You should read this spinoff first, it does contain material I'll revisit.

    Prologue

LMAO My one hope's all potential weapons aren't reacheable until she's a little older. Kitchen knives in particular. Are you tasting the spinoffs before deciding which one to tackle? That's the impression I got last night when I looked at my notifications. I was unable to reply due to the amounts of Hendricks my brother kept pouring. I had Cesar wear a bowtie at some point and wanted CJ to follow the same path. I don't think he'll do it all the time, but bowties may show up again.
  24. I thought about the time difference and decided it could work if they were both at the point in their relationship sleep could be an acceptable victim. My instinct was proved right last night. A 25yo girl at the party I was at decided to call her boyfriend after 1 am. No time difference but he wasn't happy to hear from her. Of course, the fact she, and everyone else at the party, was wasted, could have ticked him off a bit.

    We're Alive

Thanks, JR. Although I may use 'quarter' words now and then, I strive to make my stories reachable and enjoyable. On multiple occasions I've stated I want my work to help people relax and forget about their daily routine. I'm happy you've gotten sucked into my world.
