Although it did not come as a surprise, CJ found the note taped to his apartment’s front door amusing. In both English and Spanish, it asked for quiet due to a TV interview being recorded. He slipped off his shoes and carried them while silently padding toward the kitchen. A smiling Owen leaned against the doorframe, watching the proceedings in their living room. Their kiss was brief and quiet. CJ discarded his footwear, coat, and briefcase, dropping them on one of the kitchen island s
  2. And that group would be old white-haired dudes? Love the word. I've used it a couple of times in stories.
  3. You realize CJ and Owen's 25th wedding anniversary and both their fiftieth birthdays will take place while they live in the White House? I'd love to be invited to one of those celebrations. I know the media called CJ's the party of the decade.
  4. That list of events came from a spreadsheet! I'll keep the plot twists secret for now, that story will probably not see the light until next year, but I'll say CJ and Owen's wedding led to the one they attend in Newport. THAT IS NOT A CLIFFIE!
  5. I think I mentioned something in an early chapter about language hints being shared with them during orientation sessions prior to the move. If you think regional accents can help pinpoint where someone's from in the US, it's even more so in Latin America. I recall talking to a Mexican woman at a swimming/diving venue at the '96 Olympics in Atlanta. She tried to guess where I was from based on my accent and failed until I pantomimed smoking a Cigar and went heavy on Cuban colloquialisms. My two nieces grew up in Miami, had Spanish speaking caretakers while kids, and had my parents around to speak the language with. The still have a slight accent. My nephews are at least a decade younger, grew up in New Jersey and now live in Chicago. They're both fluent (my brothers and sisters-in-law insisted on it) but their accent's more pronounced. I envision CJ and Owen's kids sounding like them. Pups are the best stress relievers!
  6. Great observation. That is exactly what I wanted to show: CJ may not have all the answers, but he has the tools to search for them. It's a trait that will serve him well in the future.
  7. @Anton_Cloche I'm a Taurus too! And so are Cesar and Owen! Liebe shares a birthday with my niece who served as inspiration for the character. The other two I gave the same birthday as the actors I initially used as inspiration. A nice coincidence I mention in the next chapter and an upcoming story. I don't think the Chinese had anything to do with the safe, but you never know how I could twist events around. LOL Yep, we know Davenport joins the family in the early 2030s and ends up growing up in the White House. Interestingly, I just wrote a few lines of dialogue for him as a high school student.
  8. What's my name again? I'm not sure what I had for dinner last night, but some things stick with me. I write as an outlet for some of my thoughts, as therapy for myself. But I also write for the series' fans. It's important to me that readers understand what I'm saying, so I pay attention to what you all say.
  9. Thank you! I'm kinda fond of the cast myself. I even like people like Northman 'cause they give me a chance to showcase CJ's growth.
  10. I fear your outlook's more realistic than mine. Writing these stories is one way of me coping with a world and a country regressing. I have fears I try to ignore, I've given up on the news recently, but watching sporting events and stupid serial TV only carries me so far.
  11. I'm toying with a terrorist act wiping out half the court this summer. I'm kinda pissed at them and their hypocrisy.
  12. Take a deep breath. Let the tensions of the hard day slip away. Think of CJ speaking flawless Spanish with a slight American accent. Think of a strange Chinese man speaking heavily accented Spanish. The Chinese guy probably went through a short immersion program when he was assigned to Mexico. Two different characters, two different accents. Feeling better? No? Dr. Hazday prescribes two tumblers of your favorite poison. Chug one and nurse the other one until it's time for a refill.
  13. I'm basing the schedule on a wedding I attended right out of college. A fraternity brother married the daughter of a wealthy oilman from New Orleans. 40 years later, I still remember it.
  14. That's an easy things to do. It helps me keep characters fresh in my mind to.
  15. Instead of Mae West, for some reason this is what my perverted mind conjured
  16. It's all a triple negative black ops. CJ will return to Washington and train with the CIA. MI6 will try to poach him, offering him a double zero designation, but he'll decline. He's quickly deployed to Europe and brings about the end to the war in Ukraine and the collapse of the Russian Federation with a well-placed bullet. Oooops, I may have said too much...
  17. It's fun to post extra chapters. You once thanked me for reminding readers who certain characters are frequently. I tried to do it here, and also wanted to summarize who CJ and Owen had become friends with. I envision trips to New Zealand and Italy at a minimum at some time in the future. The Chinese guy gets mentioned in a story already written, and I have him penciled in as a possible character in New York when CJ's our UN Ambassador. That's so far off though... His lessons in Spanish were probably a rush job once he was posted to Mexico.
  18. I'm Cuban... we carry plantains instead of bananas...
  19. I do have a reference to fortune cookie wisdom coming up...
  20. But we don't know that! There may not even be a connection. CJ's speculating and both Jimmy and Jake appear more interested in his reasoning than the conclusion. And they're silent on what the CIA thinks, although Jimmy produced a picture taken in Panama, suggesting any Chinese delegation could be under surveillance. I wouldn't dare trying to figure out all the interactions and intricacies involved in that business.
  21. How about if I just carry a banana in my pocket?
  22. Professional Association of Diving Instructors. The people who teach you how to dive and give you a card to prove it. THE FOLLOWING IS SUBJECT TO CHANGE This is my current outline for chapter 3 of a book I haven't even started writing... Wed, 22 Jun 2022 Fly in to Providence • Drive to Newport • Registration • Dinner • Drinking Thu, 23 Jun 2022 Sailing • Clambake • Drinking • CJ & Owen's 4th Wedding Anniversary Fri, 24 Jun 2022 Golf • Rehearsal Dinner • Drinking Sat, 25 Jun 2022 Sightseeing • Grooming • Wedding • Drinking Sun, 26 Jun 2022 Fly to Washington
  23. I wasn't sure what emoji to react with. I'm not a fan of Will's, so I generally skim over references to his work. Days after taking the final exam for a couple of college English courses, I forgot all the Shakespeare content.
  24. I was harking back to the previous chapter and their time in Manhattan!
  25. My intent from day one was to have as varied a cast as possible. The Elite, The Squad, and The Wing were all diverse. So are the newer members of the supporting cast. I firmly believe exposure to different races and cultures enhances our lives. And since CJ's the idealized individual he is...
