  1. As a sailor having been storm bound too many times for too long, on the cornish coast on this Tom Bawcock's Eve it must be a cornish carol
  2. This because I think it is a beautiful song and very good singer in difficult circumstances and because I like the song so much, this is a english version which I more often here

  7. This was sung to/for us in Advent 75 in Garmisch PartenKirchen by a small boy and girl. It has fond memories ever since.

  9. Having been brought up on a beach, and I could swim before I could walk to the water’s edge, water and the sea have not held any fear for me. But, the water earth air interface is what hold all the problems. Harbour entrances, and river mouths are a nightmare. This is probably especially so because I have been there too many times. The worst one was when we had made Ostend Harbour before the storm, and tied up in the Yacht Club harbour. The waves in the entrance had increase from the slow rolling 5 feet waves of an Ostend Calm to sharp 30 foot waves. And the lights showed three reds (no entrance, no entrance at all, no entrance, that means you). The conditions in the harbour were the worst I have ever experience. We wore thru several mooring lines that night.. All river and harbour entrances are different, this is the best example but different “entrance video” I can find. It should give you an idea of what Murchison River Mouth, Kalbarri is like.

  12. Ah now that is the mother's dilemma? If Trevor's mother was to reveal herself to Trevor then Trevor would be a party to any illegal act that Rachel committed. Trevor would under Australian law would be committing conspiracy after the act, under USA criminal law probably party to any offence, under USA civil law his property would be liable (his darling boat), it would break the elapse time requirement, and make both his parents liable for any illegal acts. So if Rachel is Mrs Fowler, Mrs Blake, Mrs Kelly, or Aunty Cobbley, it is very bad situation. For me, it is 8th December 2006, eight days to go, and I do not know, whether Trevor mother is alive or is one of the Mrs Fowler, Mrs Blake, Mrs Kelly, or Aunty Cobbley. I am also not sure whether Trevor or Shane will still have their heads or whether the important elapse time is broken by detective Gonzales/Bridget. :-(

  16. There is a slightly older technique, which is based on Pen Plotting, and this takes a computer based 3D model and builds a number of layers into a complete 3D item. The ink from the pen plotter is a self curing plastic resin, and the thickness of the plastic is determined by the jet on the pen. This technique is cheaper than machining from aluminium and can prove prototype designs.
  17. Now I have found a reasonable chart source Chart Link This is a modern chart of the area. Now we can find your position to within 2 metres 6 feet. I was brought up when finding ones position to one mile was very good. Loran in 1996, was very good and could in places like New York City give you a position to 0.1 nmiles. Similarly, the coast of Georgia, you can get 0.1nmile. However, the area we are talking about is on the edge of the coverage. You need access to two pairs of stations (three in total), and in the diagram above you can see, the area is on the edge of three station coverage. There is only one station covering Nassau. Loran sets in general in 1996, gave the position by giving the hyperbolic line numbers eg Blue 14325, Red21000, Green 61550. You then had to look up the position on a chart, to see where these lines cross. Now try to find these lines on the chart link picture. If no mistakes are made, Position fixes in this area can be within 5 miles. Now this did not really effect people because you expected people to be inaccurate, and if somebody said 20miles of a point you look at the chart and assumed they could be miles out. You knew you were in the right placed but assumed that they could be wrong Now if you look at the chart link, you can see that between Nassau and North Bimini, there is a direct path "Northeast Channel" and if you look at the area in full zoom, You can see rocks scattered around the path with a couple of shallow areas. But there is a channel with buoys and lights. Like father like son, Like mother like son, I am a cautious sailor and would not go into the area, I would go around but equally Rachel could go straight and pick up local knowledge path, with current and end up off North Bimini. There she could have been blow up, with distributed bombs, for Bridget to pick up, She could have been slightly off in navigation and been in the channel. And hit by a big cargo vessel and smashed to pieces. Bridget then would find the pieces in the rough area down stream from the crash. If you look at the area on the chart, there are wrecks and outcrops of coral. So Rachel could have had her bottom ripped off like the Titanic, and sunk leaving odd bits floating in the sea. Again Bridget would find bits downstream away from the wreck. These are realistic scenarios. Now I see in the goat, Bridget, he tells the truth but not the whole truth. For all I know, there may be a UFO picking up Rachel, and will let her loose back in Florida on December 17th.
  18. A small point or two:- The path you show is dangerous as if you look at the charts, there are rocks and shallow 3 feet of water along the track. The more likely path is going east and north of Berry Islands. About 124 nautical miles. The speed of the Aries would be 14 to 15 knots under engine and roughly 20knots under sail in perfect conditions. ie strong winds right direction calm sea etc. Six hours, I would not take that literally ie say 5 to 7 hours. Taking the date into consideration, I do not think that positon would be all that accurate and since Trevor cannot find it may be much nearer Berry islands than thought.

  20. I cover them with Vegemite, it makes them more palatable.
  21. Fonts! Get out Clause: This is a subject that has very strong beliefs. This is my opinion Technically courier is a typewriter font and was designed for typewriters, it was never designed by font designers. It is believed to be unsuitable for books or notices, or displays devices (projected photos or TV displays) The major disadvantage is that it has the highest number of people who detested it and will not touch it, as against other fonts that people who do not like, but will tolerate. Arial/Verdana Arial was designed for notices, posters, signs etc, it was not intended for books or newspapers. Verdana was allegally derived from arial to be used on Monitor screens etc. Other arial/Helvetica derived fonts are used for posters, signs, etc. Times Roman was designed specially for the Times Newspaper, and is used for newspapers and books. Comic sans MS (Micro Soft) is a nice warm hand printing font which is ideal for short passage to emphasize. Although I like it a lot it is the font that is most likely to be unavailable and replaced on non MS machines by a random font. I would recommend that you do not use it, or use it sparingly. The above is based on information which is ten years old, and opinions are changing and moving away from serif to sans serif, so I would suggest that whatever your readers wants is what you do. At lest it will be correct now. In two years time???
  22. The Mississippi at Vicksburg, has peaked at 57 feet and one or two inches. More importantly the Mississippi @:- Knox Landing (Old River Crossing) has Crested Red River Landing (Morganza Spillway) has Crested Thus Baton Rouge and New Orleans earth levees will not be overtopped, and barring failure due to extended water logging, or a Hurricane, both are safe. The overflow or spill into the Atchafalaya River, has been steady for two days, and although the water levels in the basin will probably not stabilisefor another 2 or 3 days it looks as most (except Butte La Rose [ may flood]) will be safe.
  23. Yes, I do, I cannot tell people how the story goes, or comment on reviews/guesses as not only cannot I give away what happens but I cannot say anything that will set people on a false trial. Since I only know a small part of the story ( and this sometimes changes) "It is safer, to say nought". Even when suggestions in the forum are impossible?
  24. "vegemite" huh I came across this vid which may bring some light to the story
