  1. That skit was hilarious ... I was trying to think why he sounded familiar to me, and then I remembered its because I read he's going to be playing a lead gay character in a movie coming out soon.
  2. NBC here in the US didn't show any of that unfortunately, although if you watch the video of the medal ceremony online they do show him kissing his mom and boyfriend in the stands right after. Also there's this cute interview of him with his mom and boyfriend standing next to him that's up on youtube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M2PWW8uBhik
  3. Interesting topic! It makes me think of a short film I found on youtube about a gay deaf high school cross country runner called "Running Without Sound". Here's a link to part 1, and you can find part 2 from there... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=if2Vmqe6lSk The part where the two guys are just staring at each other is pretty cool I think.
  4. I agree with all of the suggestions above...especially Edge of Seventeen, C.R.A.Z.Y., Summerstorm, My Beautiful Laundrette, and Latter Days. In terms of happy ending type movies, these are probably my favorite ones that no one has mentioned yet: All Over the Guy Guys and Balls Just a Question of Love - this one is the best of the bunch I think I Think I Do Another Gay Movie And these are some "gay" movies that I think are uplifting, although some of them don't have a romantic storyline in them, or the characters don't end up together at the end: Bear Cub Cowboys & Angels Eternal Summer

These two statements are simply not true. Although there are some who might agree with you, many people who self identify as Muslim would not agree with the first statement. You have to recognize that Muslims vary in the level of their devotion and that there is a great deal of internal debate within the Islamic community as to the role religion should play in government and to the interpretation of Islamic law. As for the second, I can provide you with many examples from the media, as well as from personal acquaintances, of the condemnation of terrorist attacks by the Muslim community in the US and the Middle East. Here are a few that come up in a quick google search: http://www.al-islam.org/dilp_statement.html#1 http://www.mpac.org/home_article_display.aspx?ITEM=876 http://www.globalvoicesonline.org/?p=310 http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk/4660411.stm Some do. I agree that there is a difference in scale. I am just as upset about the lack of action on the part of the US about human rights abuses by the government in Iran, especially towards gays. My point was that there are other reasons for the difference than something inherent in Islam itself because the potential to use Christianity in the same way is also there. The causal link you suggest between unrest in the Middle East and Islam isn't there.

CJames, thanks for clarifying your position with regards to the use of nuclear weapons. I have my doubts as to the humaneness and usefulness of tactical nuclear strikes, but not being a military expert I can't comment. I am just glad you clarified what effect you intended they should have and I appreciate it. My main problem with your and Myr's comments on Islam was that it seemed to me that they both equated Islam with a monolithic timeless entity that was a religion of death. That kind of inflammatory talk always makes me nervous. My point was that 'Islam' is much more complex than that, and more than even the sum of its radical factions. I don't think that it can even be as simple as reading the Qur'an and the Haddiths and making a judgment about whether or not it is a religion of peace or death. Islam isn't either and it also isn't a problem, anymore than Christianity is a problem, it is just a tool. We can only judge the individuals who use it. That is my opinion. But, as I am also a guest and off topic, I will shut up now too.
  7. Hey Adam, Here are my thoughts on 'the future': it changes. It's not always going to be as bad as you feel now, and it's not always going to be as good as you felt after you came out to Max either. I'm sorry to hear that your depression is getting worse and that things aren't going well with your friends. I'm not them, so I can't know what they intended, but sometimes these things feel like a bigger deal to the recipient than they are to the person who said them. They may not have intended to be hurtful, even though they were, and I'm pretty sure if they knew, they wouldn't want you to feel the way you are. At any rate, I know it's easier said than done, but you shouldn't let their actions or words impact your thoughts about your self worth or the meaningfulness of the future so much. I know that I don't know you, but from reading your blog I can tell that you are a sweet and caring guy. And that's something that isn't going to change. sparrow
  8. Bugs. Lizards eat bugs, don't they? Maybe it would be a good thing to have around the house, if you've got any...

YAY! I'm really happy that you're happy! Non reactions are definitely the best reactions.
  10. LOL. I have no idea. I know, I was so suprised when I saw that this morning, because it hadn't been updated in more than a year, and then I finally find it again and the next morning it's been updated. I think the author must have psychic powers. Or maybe I do.
  11. Ok, so I know this thread was dead a long time ago, but I have to revive it to recommend a story that I finally found and reread again after much searching. The story is Reclaiming Austin by Billy and it's posted on superdrewby and its even better than I remembered it being. Here's the link: http://www.superdrewby.com/stories/austin/index.shtml It takes place in a college / post college setting, and is kind of Human Condition-esque. I think my favorite thing about it is the dialogue. There are some darker elements to the plot, but most of it is on the lighter, sweeter side. Anyways, BoyNeedsTherapy, if you were still looking for something that fits your criteria with a happy ending, here's another suggestion. sparrow P.S. One of the major characters is a baseball player...and I think there is some mention of getting him out of the uniform at one point...should certain people be in to that kind of thing.
  12. Or you're going to be. I actually had to reread Kevin's comment a few times to make sure I was reading it the right way lol... That was a funny conversation. I agree with everyone above that it at least sounds like he wants to be closer friends with you and I hope it works out. sparrow
  13. I know, I know! The poem is called Richard Cory by Edwin Arlington Robinson I read it in high school too and its still one of my favorites. I think Simon and Garfunkel did a song about it too...
  14. Slightly but... I think there should be bumper stickers
  15. I whole-heartedly agree, 'specially since most of the questions on the quiz were about traditional gender roles, not sexual orientation. And the latter could have been neatly summed up by how you answered the first two pre-quiz questions.
