When my siblings get home, they will be allocated jobs, with the twins to bring cold water and snacks to the hut every two hours, and to help out either Mum or Dad with any extra chores, while Wynn and Julia would remain at home and remain close to the radio, in case of any emergencies. When not at the gate hut, the other adults would be assisting me as guides around the airbase, and once we were happy with the planning for the weekend, we finished up our dinner and relaxed in the lounge are

“So I guess that you will be off doing training on and off in the reserves, where will you be based?” Marcus asked, “Not sure at the moment, but I guess somewhere in Perth, while I finish my final year of university, and from there I guess at the nearest Army depot to the Airbase, which is Port Hedland,” I replied. I am looking around to see what other job options there are for a unemployed Veterinarian, so I am hoping to get a job offer soon,” Marcus said to me, “Well keep your chin up mate

“They are, and I have some new signs being made in Port Hedland, for when we are open for business. The first one will be at the junction of Corunna Downs Road and Limestone-Marble Bar Road, just south of town, the second one will be at the turnoff from Corunna Downs Road, and the third 750 metres from there at the next turnoff, with each one giving distances to the Airbase gate. At the front gate we will have a sign stating that the museum is only open from 9 am to 4 pm, 7 days a week, and

“Are you happy with how we have set it all up?” was the first thing Dad asked as we sat down in the small lounge area, “I think it is awesome Dad, I like it a lot, and great thinking for putting the boys in a separate living area,” I replied. “Good, now what is happening with University, are you going back to Canberra or staying in WA?” Dad asked, “Staying here, I have to fly to Perth in a couple days, since first semester starts shortly, but I will be home for some weekends and all the holi

“Looking smart there Jex,” came a voice over the communicator, realising that I had forgotten about the snipers, “Very funny guys, and I forgot that you were watching,” I replied, as I stowed the clothes I was wearing into the suit bag and stashed in into the old jeep, before walking back to the front of the building, just as the Governor General and his wife approached the building. “There you are, now I see you are better dressed, how about introducing me to your siblings,” the Governor Ge

“Right, we have our men looking at the other mines, and I have already been in contact with the VIP jet, and they are on their way back here, eta about 45 minutes, how about giving me a tour of these facilities of yours,” the Captain said. “My pleasure sir, can you leave one of the Hawkei’s behind when you leave?” I replied smiling I hope, and the Captain laughed. “Not sure that the VIP’s would approve of that,” the Captain responded, “No, I guess not, shame. Well I wouldn’t mind a ride

Thanks mate, I’ve just finished writing chapter 33, and there is still no end in sight...

On the parking tarmac sat my beautiful biplane, which looked like it has also been given a good wash, and I loaded my bag into the storage locker, and began my checks of the plane, before climbing in and starting her up, purring perfectly as usual. “Port Hedland Air Traffic, this is Tango Juliet 1959, requesting clearance to taxi to runway, destination Corunna Air base, over,” I said over the radio, “Good morning Jex, welcome home mate, you are second in line after the RAAF VIP jet heading f

“You mean Pine Gap?” I asked. “Yes, that is the one, we have to stay clear of it, as do all aircraft,” the chief pilot said. After an hour, the chief pilot took over from me, and he asked me to send the other pilot back, so he can do his job, and I gave a little laugh, as I exited the cockpit. “A bit over an hour to go, and we will be in Alice Springs,” I announced as I took my seat and secured the seatbelt. “How was it flying this compared to your plane?” the Major asked me, “A heck of

Once we had finished, Dad insisted on paying for it all, and I went into the change room and changed into the trousers, T shirt, green socks and boots, before we exited the shop with my duffle bag of gear, and ten minutes later Dad dropped me off at the front gate of the Depot, where the same soldier was waiting, and he looked me up and down, and smiled before opening the gate. “You could almost pass as an Army soldier, but that haircut will not do,” the soldier said, and I smiled, “I presum

“That I will gladly do sir, I am just thankful that it has been found, after such a long time, it is truly a miracle. Mr Kendrik, may I have your contact details, as I wish to be in contact with you in a week or so,” the jeweller replied. Dad gave the jeweller his mobile phone number, before shaking all our hands and leaving, Constable in here please,” the senior sergeant called, “I will leave you to deal with what you need to do, and we can be contacted on this number. We are currently

DA Ch 12 - Pearls & Diamonds
quokka commented on quokka's story chapter in DA Ch 12 - Pearls & Diamonds
Thanks mate, hope all is well for you down in the apple isle -
Once in the study, and the safe was on the floor, Dad locked the door, so we would have no interruptions, and I carefully retrieved the historical items, and placed them on the desk, while Dad dismantled the picture frame, removing the backing, so there was just the frame and the glass. After carefully opening up the piece of material that has writing on it, I carefully placed it face down on the glass, and Dad put the backing in place, and secured it, before turning it around. We both look

You are right, and with the jeweller paying the money back to the insurance company as mentioned in the story, the jeweller gets to keep his diamonds and pearls.

“Was the cottage I stayed in have any damage?” I asked, as I thought about my laptop computer and all of my university gear that I keep in there, “Not a scratch, and I collected all of that yesterday, including your computer, and it is with Mum,” Dad replied. “That’s good, I don’t know if they would believe me if I told them a mad man had gone through our home and destroyed everything,” I responded. Once back at the Corunna Downs homestead, I parked my Land Rover in the shed, and we headed t

With the north boundary fence and gate being 1.8 kilometres north of the car park and creek crossing, and the east gate being 3.4 kilometres from the airfield, it is still a manageable distance for those who are fit enough and prepared for hikes in this region. After dropping Dad off at our homestead, I flew to Corunna Downs, letting them know by radio, that I was on my way over, and Mr Parkinson was standing by the runway when I arrived. “Hello again, I hear that you and Flint have had a ve

This was at the station not the airbase, with all station airfields been gravel, which are slippery and a bit dangerous when they are saturated.

Firstly we need to get an update on what is happening, so Dad made a call to Mable Bar Police on the sat phone, and he went outside to make the call, so he could be undisturbed. When he returned about ten minutes later, he sighed and looked at the family, before taking a seat next to Mum. “He is held up at our homestead, and although we didn’t know it before, we now know that his is armed, and very dangerous. All they have told me is that he has a foreign accent, and that he has already take

“Tango Juliet 1959 to MB Police mobile one, over,” I called over the UHF radio, “MB Mobile 1 to TJ 1959, receiving you, Mr Parkinson is with me on the ATV as his vehicle got a little waterlogged on the second creek crossing, over,” the sergeant replied. “Roger that, I have seen his vehicle, what is your location, over,” I responded, “We have crossed the bigger creek and are at the Hillside road crossing, over,” the sergeant replied, “Jexon, this is Hedley speaking, this guy is good, he has b
