  1. Lol. Serpent's mouth is exactly right. Phineas did make quite an impression with readers. I saw him as a typical bureaucrat trying to take advantage of his position. And yeah, he was a failure, at least in underestimating the boys' resolve. I do tend to put a lot of thought in names, but there are also times they just come to me out of the blue. In fact one name came to me last night after I climbed into bed and turned the light out. I got up and write it down. I've learned not to trust my memory of late.
  2. Hey, Terry. No rest for me... I might have bit off too much, but I'll keep going.
  3. A necessary evil.
  4. It's a little known fact.
  5. Yes, Larkspur is filling up, isn't it? From the moment this story entered my head, that's where I wanted them to end up. Virgil can handle Phineas Lemon, no problem... and I love how everyone remembers his name. Writing complex short stories is tricky, so I'm pleased you think it worked well. There is so much more I could tell about these two for sure, but I agree with you. This ending felt right, their lives filled with promise as they set on an adventure on a good footing, one where Wyatt keeps his pride because he realizes his worth to Virgil. When you feel love, you understand its value. Thanks for sharing your thoughts on this new western, buddy. A story review and story recommendation would be nice if you could manage it. Just saying... cheers!
  6. Pouring rain here. Spent a lot of money today. Going to put a wood ceiling in my family room and paint it white. Will be a lot of work, but with six new beams it should look good. Then I will strip wallpaper and paint before picking out a new sectional...a really big one. Have to move the TV to the other side of the room... and maybe buy an electric fireplace if I can find one I like...
  7. @dughlaslikes plaid.
  8. Received another nice Story Review for my new western, this time from @Timothy M..
  9. Thanks, Tim. I would have sent this one to you too, but when I didn't hear back about the first one I sent, I figured you were extremely busy with your work. It appears I am becoming known as the western writer guy, and that works for me. This one was really fun to piece together, and I really enjoyed tying it to Larkspur, where the rest of the boys already are. I agree that earlier talk paved the way for this one... and got Wyatt more receptive to truly considering what he wanted above all else. The care and respect Virgil gives Wyatt is something he's not used to, but he knows it's genuine, so that leap of faith is not a big one. Again, thank you for your support. So glad you liked this one. Cheers! G.
  10. He pays attention, that's for sure. I agree he would make a great sheriff, especially with the speed of his gun, and his integrity as you previously mentioned. The thing I have learned about the old west is there were plenty of opportunities to make a life for yourself. It was a place and time for a new start for those who were downtrodden. Wyatt could stop worrying about being a 'breed' and get on with being himself, an American like so many others. I enjoyed how this chapter came together... it had to work exactly right, and readers have let me know it did. Thanks again for reading and commenting, Tim. Cheers! G.
  11. I'm sure there were good people in that town once, but all the raiding and killing has changed them. It's a sad situation, especially after coming out of a virulent war with Mexico over the land they reside on, and as far as Virgil is concerned, it is unacceptable. People find it easy to hold onto hate when it suits them, and poor Wyatt is taking the brunt of it. I understand his pride, but like you, I wish he would see that leaving with Virgil could give him a chance at living. On Virgil's part, I'm not sure he knows what's happening to him, but he has so far proven to be open-hearted. He does have some thinking to do. Thanks, Tim.
  12. Hi, Tim. I think Virgil had a pretty good read of the town before he walked into the Copper Hill Hotel. You right in your assessment of him. He is indeed honorable, and well-traveled enough to understand the ways of the world he's a part of. Honorable? Without a doubt. Thanks for this... I appreciate your support as always. Cheers! G.
  13. Carson was an emotionally stunted child who carries the emotional scars left by his father, into adulthood. Distorted is a good word for how he treated a son who loved him. I believe hw knew he was pushing Kendall away, just like his own had done to him, and that is a very sad but common cycle between fathers and sons. Michael has a few superpowers, but yeah, that is his best one for their Calgary visit. He has changed this family forever, and he did it for his man. He would do anything for Kendall. Yes, love keeps winning... as it should be. Cheers, my friend and thanks for the great comment. G.
  14. That was enjoyable, Carlos. Lots to digest with not knowing most of the characters, but I didn't get lost. I particularly liked the quilt analogy. It was apt. Oh, and Lilibet Windsor was a fun and timely name to read. Cheers!
  15. He comes with a rope, chaps, and spurs.
  16. Happy Monday, all!
  17. Fat chance of me getting nailed anytime soon.
  18. I could use a nap right now. I spent about four/five hours at Home depot and Lowes. Bought myself a battery powered nail gun for $300 on sale... hope it works well... should make it easier on my shoulders. Another $75 on nails.
  19. Lol. Virgil would find it funny. And so do I.
  20. We'll see what Virgil can do to help the young man. He definitely needs someone in his corner besides Murry the barkeep. When he answers Virgil's question about why he stays in Matador Hill with "Where else would I go?" it breaks my heart, and probably Virgil's too. I see Wyatt as sad, but we can't ignore his resilience either. His parents, and it would seem his ma especially, instilled a strength in him that keeps him from being pathetic despite the treatment he gets. It's so nice to have you join me for this story, little buddy. I've always looked forward to your comments. Glad you could experience the scenes visually. When I read, I like to feel a part of the action, and that's what I try to do as a writer, so thanks for that. Hope you like the rest. Cheers!
  21. That's just... I can't even...
  22. Well, hello there, Drewbear.
  23. Happy Sunday, all!
  24. Never mind.
