An aside about Volvos. For a period of time, a friend bought Volvos because they were so safe. They went to Florida on vacation and I stopped by his business when they got back. The first thing he asked was if I'd seen his car. I hadn't noticed it. He told me they were sitting at a light when a pickup truck rear-ended them and as he said, 'ruined his car.' The pickup had to be towed. We went outside to look at it and I walked around it twice without sewing any damage. Finally he pointed out a half inch crack in the left tail light lens and cackled.

I don't find it so unlikely. In The Prince and the Pauper, Tom Canty was taught by a kindly priest. There was some level of literacy in the lower class. Studies have shown partial literacy was fairly common.

No one has addressed how rapidly Miller appeared after Hugo and crew left or where he came from. Is this one a Meanwhile and if he is, how many Millers are there? It would be a convenient way to increase ranks.

Hugo seeing Dottie as nothing more than an old and unarmed woman is one of the most twisted and disingenuous pieces of thinking I've seen. Dottie was neither harmless nor innocent. Hugo is his own worst critic.
