They're not creating a federal licence, but enhancing current state licences to meet the federal government new rules so Uncle Sam could accept them as ID. Everyone would have to get one. The idea of a federal licence will make the states go apeshit because it's a state right. Basically... If your licence has all of these: "Each card must include, at a minimum, the person's full legal name, signature, date of birth, gender, driver's license or identification card number. It also includes a photograph of the person's face and the address of principal residence"; your licence is already RealID and you're forever stuck with that photo for the next four years. However, the Congress may amend or repeal that law. It's all on the Wiki. And licences that let you cross the border are different from normal licence (just more enhanced). They will be still issued by the states if they offer such thing. The federal government already offers passcards for this purpose.

We have this in Montreal. The Turcot Exchange aka Spaghetti Exchange. It goes up 100 feet in the air. It connects the major highways in the province to the rest of the country and the USA (Autoroutes 15/20/40/740 from downtown/Ottawa/Toronto/Quebec City). To see it from the ground... I live right next to it. ¬¬ God it's so f**king high... it's even taller than my three-story apartment. It's nothing. The bridges over the river is few miles long and it goes 200-300 feet over the water. Just don't think about flying off it. My only urban terror is putting on the roof one of the city highest skyscrapers. Actually putting me on the TV terror will freak the shit out of me.

To be frank... I never had any of those problem with Ubuntu. You could discuss all of these problems on an Ubuntu forum. They might try to help you better.

Interesting that it was illegal to make margarine yellow in Quebec. They had to be nothing but white. Until last winter. I got my first margarine last month that is all yellow. It was a bit of a shock to me. But then I gotta add it is illegal to use trans-fat anywhere in Canada. That includes making partially hydrogenated vegetable oil. I use margarine because I don't use a lot of them. This is what I have in my fridge now.
