I am about to change it and have his mother move to Afghanistan and become a sniper.

He was a freshman but now he is a sophomore and is addressed in the very next chapter about his age and moving. They really aren't that far apart in age when you think about it. Trace is only 18 but has been taking classes so he can get into law school like his father.
