The author very much cares, @Homosapiens. He is also humbled by the high praise and is so very happy you are enjoying this story. This one has been my central masterwork since I began authoring a few years ago. I apologize for my slowness in writing. When I started this, it was basically a test to see if I had the chops to actually write anything anyone would want to read. Rather than do what I should have done and just written it all down at once and start posting chapters at acceptable intervals, I released them as I finished them. I have since been counseled by wiser authors than me that I should finish a work first entirely before posting, but I was most eager for reactions. Once started, I had to continue posting in this way. The story is nearly finished. The last act is already underway. I am tabling some other writing projects too so that the energy I bring to one can transfer to another. All my writing projects are here. It is part of the same ‘world’ that Snowflake exists in: I also have my first entry into Albert Cumming’s mysteries. Albert is Sabrina’s ‘Bertie’ and the work Adagio is later referenced in Snowflake:

The lack of a condom is actually a ‘negative space’ voiceless dialog of trust between Snowflake and Brian. I did it purposefully. As you saw with Jimmy, Brian is very conscious of safe-sex. Snowflake must also be conscious as an experienced pansexual. So, the condition may be a conscious or unconscious understanding between the two that opens them up to trusting one another. I’m voting for unconscious. Finns, from the ones I’ve met, are actually extremely passionate people. They are so passionate that they have learned to control themselves for the interests of their society. Also, things translate differently in Finnish. The concept of ‘love’ for instance, when said in a certain way, is so sacred and thought to be so important that it is only said at certain key times in a person’s life. At a baby’s birth, a betrothal, a marriage. It can be said at times when a person needs it particularly like when their sisu (perseverance) has been expended and they need the extra powerful injection of love to keep them alive. It is often said when death is near. In a way, it is the most beautiful expression of love I have ever found. A love who’s word is so sacred that it is often only said once in a lifetime.

In order for the sex to be special it has to be a unique experience each time. Repeat it over and over and it loses this specialness. Brian has had all kinds of sex and so has Snowflake so they are somewhat jaded to the process. The fact that they mention it at all means that something amazing is happening. Later, you’ll get to some ‘meatier’ sex as this is my most sexed up story, so far. But, that said, each scene means to deepen the experience for the reader as you ‘fall in love’ as our characters do. I use sex like an exclamation point at certain points to emphasize either the depth of a relationship or even the shallowness of it.

Thanks again for a second run through, Will. My little story here is rapidly coming to its final act as of this writing. Going back and reading my development of my little ‘chosen family’ here I can see that I did finally manage to dig deep and fill in the depth of most of them. This story has become somewhat prophetic for me as well. I have now actually met ‘Snowflake’ in the flesh! Not Benji Jarvis who is my model for the character, but the real person! He’s either a senior in High School or a Freshman in college now and I met him over the past couple of Christmases in the House of Finland. This is a facility in our local park in an International Village we have cottages for each nationality. On Christmas, each cottage opens and serves up some Christmas traditions from each culture. Finland is well represented with special Christmas pastries and Gluug punch (non-alcoholic which is a sin in Finland from what I understand). Here I met a TALL young man with natural platinum blonde hair and crystal blue eyes that freeze you at a glance. He could easily be the star quarterback at any university in the country. Each Christmas I see him I leave a little hint. This past year I found out he loves snowboarding. I encouraged him to give skiing a try because I saw great things in his future. According to my timeline here, Snowflake may make a splash one day. Keep your eyes open for Finns and Finnish Americans to medal in the upcoming Winter Olympics. If you see the most beautiful skiier you have ever seen, then you know that the Snowflake has fallen and landed in our world! Can Brian be far behind?

I’m running into this problem with Gay SciFi romance. The human meets a cute boy alien from outer space and they Fuuu and then cute alien boy has to go home. Now, done right (Light Reaches Earth, a-hem) this trope can work because it is a fantasy formula that can always pull at your heart-strings. Boy meets boy. Boy falls in love with boy. Boy must leave boy. Boy cries. Done wrong, it is derivative and boring. I am in the planning phase of a story called ‘Super Massive’ (not a double-entendre, I promise), but find myself falling into this trope myself a bit. It is as inevitable as Thanos that this will become the trope stated above, but the trick is to make it original by dressing it in Sci-Fi realism and flair. Star Wars is an old Hero Conquers The Dark Fortress trope which was done very well by George Lucas. His trick was to dress a Fantasy trope in Sci-Fi costumes and unrivaled special effects. It worked great for him, but failed for others because George had done it so well and too many others were just copying him too closely. I think that is the trick with time honored tropes: Use them as a skeleton, but make them you’re own by discovering a twist or take on it that hasn’t been done before or hasn’t been done through your particular lens. Everyone that can draw can draw a tree, but, you will find, that each person’s concept and view of the tree will look totally different and unique to the person doing it if they are allowed to draw the tree in their own way.

I love it! It’s sort of like a pastel goth fantasy nightmare come true!

Weekly Roundup Sunday was really dull as compared to Friday and Saturday which, actually, was ok by me. I caught up on some of my reading and played with Cedric and Frank for a while.
