Hi Carlos, Nicely handled last couple of chapters. Great that the guys are married now, and the other relationships seem to be either solid or blossoming. Except for CJ, of course ... he's yet to find Mr. Right. Still, he's only 15 so I guess his focus needs to be on his studies. Links to songs mentioned in the story ... now where have I seen that done before? LOL. Unfortunately, being in Australia, I couldn't access one of the clips, but I enjoyed the other one. Cheers, Wayne

Hi Carlos, Really enjoyed this latest chapter - especially the surprise reference to Tyson Hill from 'Love on the rocks' and how cleverly you had the guys listening to his song on the radio! I wonder if the author knows? Does this mean that the guys might see his concert in America? That’s where Marcus McNally is up to in his story – Tyson’s first US tour. Looking forward to next week’s instalment! Cheers, Wayne

Morning Carlos, Another great read, although so much sex over breakfast could have given me indigestion! All the street words for drugs was foreign to me. In my day (says the old guy) the most anyone did was roll a joint! Although here's one non-Aussies might never have heard ... you might "go to a party and drop a few mandies!" And Bucket's "cocktease" was new to me, also. Is that what they call it now? In my day (says the old guy) it was "prick tease"! Was this chapter shorter than the others, Carlos? I didn't even finish half a cup of coffee, and the chapter ended. There's another story I follow at weekends (!) and with that one, I need three cups of coffee, and often, a full box of Kleenex. And before Bucket says anything inappropraite, the Klennex are for tears ... Cheers, Wayne

Hi Carlos, Another nicely written chapter, with lots happening. I like the way you weave morality through the narrative, in this case, infidelity in the gay community (which is really no different from infidelity in the straight community.) At least while CJ is a pogostick of teen hormones, he's being exposed to his fathers' values and likely soaking them up. I'm guessing if there's no going back for Doc (and he seemed quite definite) then Chip is out of the picture from now on ... unless you have plans for him in the future. I'm looking forward to the next chapter, knowing that Doc will be supported and cared for. Cheers, Wayne

Hi Carlos, Loved having two chapters this weekend. Made me feel like my 'Summer' fix was as long as my 'Love on the rocks' fix ... although those chapters are always at least 10K long! Great to see CJ finally exloring his sexuality ... and you didn't 'overblow it' (if you'll pardon the expression!). All very tasteful, and no nasty aftertaste! Speaking of nasty tastes ... I'll weigh in on the mouthwash for what it's worth. There is nothing more offputting than somebody with bad breath ... and halitosis was not invented by Listerine ... it's a medically recognised condition caused by bacteria below the gumline and the back of the tongue. I agree that mouthwashes are generally useless - full of sugar, and potentially damaging to the enamel on the tooth. I grew up with a grandmother who insisted that bad breath can be cured very simply - by drinking a small amount of juiced continental parsley - and 50 years on, Grandma's remedy has proved itself time and time again. PS Carlos - nice touch referncing the Australian wine. If I'm not mistaken, Coldstream Hills is the favoured Aussie drop of a certain handsome lawyer down under ... <g> Cheers, Wayne

I'm surprised he says he couldn't handle a large cast - "Love on the rocks" has at least a dozen central characters that I can think of, plus the four kids. Maybe because they're mostly family, it's easier to keep tabs on them! How I wish I could read his chapters ahead of time; those cliffhangers of his are like Chinese water torture! Here in Australia, the age of consent varies, which is a bit odd. It's 16 in all states except South Australia and Tasmania, where it's 17. And in Queensland, the age of consent is 16, except where it applies to anal sex, and then it jumps to 18! As Queensland teenagers probably say, "That's a pain in the arse!" Wayne

Hi Carlos, I've enjoyed the last couple of chapters. CJ's personality is revealing itself, and it appears he's made of sterner stuff than earlier chapters suggested. The latest chapter appears to be sowing the seeds (so to speak - LOL) of CJ's first sexual encounter. I'll be keen to see how his Dads react to their 15 year old son having sex. Is that legal age in the US? I thought you handled the confrontation with the bully in the previous chapter very well - the kid has balls! I've gotta say, though ... I was intrigued that you posted a chapter dealing with homophobia in the same week Marcus McNally posted a chapter with the same theme. His main characters are about to visit the US for the singer's tour ... I'm wondering whether one of the concerts will be in Washington? Looking forward to next week's chapter! Cheers, Wayne

OK, now I understand ... except I don't know why that role is referred to as a 'Beta read.' I looked up 'beta' in the urban dictionary online and it says - "a beta is a male who, instead of being alpha and manning up, completely bitches out.' So I've obviously missed something, somewhere! If you needed Marcus's permission for a reference, does that mean you're going to have CJ's reading "Love on the rocks"? LOL

It might be a language thing (or even an age thing) but I don't actually know what a 'Beta read' means. If it means the Beta reader gets to read chapters so far in advance, then I volunteer my services!

Hi Carlos, I've really enjoyed the last couple of chapters, especially CJ and his dad having a little down time together. Life has been a whirlwind for CJ since he arrived, so a bit of chilling with the old man was a settling touch for him. I'm intrigued how the easy access to seemingly endless funds will pan out for CJ. I'd imagine most boys CJ's age would take full advantage of having credit cards, but so far CJ hasn't spent anything himself ... but his dads have spent a lot of money on him. He'll either be a responsible teen and seek permission to make purchases, or he'll start splashing cash. Looking forward to more! Cheers, Wayne PS - I'm guessing that the reference to Carlos the Cuban gardener in the latest chapter of the 'Love on the rocks' sequel is a nod to you! Made me laugh!

The most sensible comment I’ve read so far in this debate was Bucket’s remark about “sporty, blokey banter and a dad ready to step in if necessary.” Had to laugh when I realised it was made by a fellow Aussie! Bucket’s correct – here in Oz, the dialogue in chapter 6 would be blokey banter … nothing more. What appeals to me about ‘Summer’ is the fact that this displaced, emotionally abused teenager has suddenly found himself in an environment where he’s welcome, and where he feels loved. Even better, he’s being treated as an equal. CJ is 15 going on 20. He has acknowledged his sexuality and in his new environment, he is being taught to embrace it, rather than feel ashamed of it. Of course, Cesar and Brett could pack the boy in cotton wool and shield him from the real world. Or, they could introduce him to that world, with protective eyes on him at all times; watching from a distance as he takes his first tentative steps, and always ready to step in and steer him if he heads in the wrong direction. Carlos, I hope the feedback doesn’t make you feel you need to change the way your story proceeds. You’re doing a great job so far!

Thanks for your reply to my post Carlos. I shared it with Marcus McNayy when I emailed him to says thanks for his latest chapter. I thought his response was great: Hi Wayne, Glad you enjoyed Chapter 17 of “Five Years On.” Your email made me laugh! In response to Carlos’ comments, please feel free to pass this on! So … “Marc is a pain in the butt.” … He wishes! And … “He writes these long-assed chapters that keep you happy and glued to the page and then plops a little cliffie at the end to piss me off.” Please! The end of Chapter 17 in not a cliffhanger! It’s a small tease. If both of you dislike my cliffhangers, then you’re gonna hate Chapter 18! And … “I keep bitching and he keeps ignoring me!” I’d never ignore him - my parents taught me to be polite to old people! Cheers, mate … and Happy Australia Day for tomorrow! Marcus

Another great chapter Carlos - it's good to have the couple's level of wealth explained. And I like that each chapter has a title. Not many authors do that. Also, another great chapter of "Love on the rocks" this weekend (except for the Goddamn cliffhanger!)

I first found "Summer" on a Sunday morning, so that's when I check each week. I read new chapters of "Love on the rocks" on Sunday mornings, too. If you're saying it appears earlier, I'll start checking on Saturdays from now on! Of course, that means I'll read you story first, before the other one, which means I'll walk, then eat bad stuff. That kinda stuffs up my eating/exercise plan, LOL.

I only realised recently that there are author profiles on crvboy and I check out Marcus McNally's. For some reason, I thought he'd be roughly in my age bracket. I was surprised to find he's much younger than I thought. And I realise it's his profession that makes him so knowledgable about the entertainment industry, music in particular. Given his mouth-watering descriptions of meals, I wouldn't have been surprised if he was a chef. LOL. I've actually put on weight since I first started reading "Love on the rocks". His chapters make me hungry. On the other hand, the chapters of "Summer" make me want to go out walking, so I think the best solution is to read a chapter of "Love on the rocks" and eat something I shouldn't, then read a chapter of "Summer" and walk off what I've eaten!

Here's the reply I got: Hey Wayne, Thanks for your email. I’m glad you’re enjoying “Love on the Rocks – Five Years On” as the story unfolds. I’m aware of Carlos Hazday and his excellent story “Summer.” He has been very generous in his support of “Love on the Rocks” over the years. He’s a fine writer, and a gentleman as well. Because “Five Years On” is still a work-in-progress, I have very little time to read for pleasure at the moment … but I make a point of reading each new chapter of “Summer” as it’s posted. I hope you continue to enjoy both Carlos’ story, and “Five Years On.” Thanks again for taking the trouble to write. Cheers, mate, Marcus Wayne

LOL. Never met an Aussie yet who's eaten a dead dingo's donger (although in the outback, anything's possible). But Headstall, don't forget - the Scots eat haggis, which is sheep offal. The Italians eat Casu Marzu, which is a cheese with live maggots in it. And Latinos eat Caldo de Cardan, which is soup made of bull's penises and testicles. A dead dingo's donger seems tame by comparison! Carlos, it was most likely whitebait.

If it's only a few Aussie expressions here and there, then all you really need are "G'day", "Strewth!", "Blimey" and "Hoo roo"! Unless of course your character's very thirsty, in which case he'd be "as dry as a dead dingoes donger"!

Carlos, Thanks for the head's up about crvboy. I'm a bit challenged when it comes to technology and I thought it was just the author's name. I didn't realise it was an email link! So I'll certainly write to him, especially now that he's actually had correspondence with you about my feedback! I didn't realise "Summer" was date specific - I thought the date on each chapter was when it was originally written ... LOL. But it does beg the question, why is "Summer" so specific about date? It could be obvious but if so, it went over my head! (Similarly, I didn't realise that "Love on the rocks" isn't date specific; I thought it was written in the current time, but now that I think about it, he doesn't seem to ever reference a year). As for "Aussie speak" ... bewdy, mate - happy to help your character speak proper Orstrayan ... so you don't sound like a drongo! Wayne

G’day again, Carlos. Thanks for replying to my review after Chapter 4. I’m not surprised you know of “Love on the rocks”. Before it struck me that you and our Aussie writer have similar styles, I thought your character CJ had much in common with “Love on the rock”’s Scott (he’s the youngest of the older brothers, if that makes sense). When you said you’re going to have Tyson and Mike make a guest appearance in “Summer”, I thought it would be during the Tyson Hill tour of the US, which is about to happen in “Love on the rocks”. But you’re going to keep us guessing I suppose. I’m really looking forward to more of “Summer”. And I’m cool with you passing my comments on the Marcus McNalty. I’d have told him myself but there’s no comments section on crvboy.org. Cheers, Wayne PS: Your Aussie-speak needs some work! If you were my best mate ever, you’d be my “bestie”!

We Take Care of Our Own
Fisherman commented on Carlos Hazday's story chapter in We Take Care of Our Own
G’day Carlos. I’m really enjoying your story “Summer”. The central characters all seem like guys we’d like if we knew them personally, and I like the way you keep a thread of humour running through the story. The way you write reminds me of an author we have here in Australia. His name is Marcus McNalty, and he has written about 50 chapters of a wonderful story called “Love on the rocks”. I mean this comparison as a huge compliment to you. The theme of the story is different to yours (his main characters are a pop star and a lawyer) but the love and respect they show each other and those closest to them, is similar to the way Cesar, Brett and CJ treat each other. I hope your story runs as long as “Love on the rocks”! Regards, Wayne
