  1. just what I was going for! Yay - I might not be hopeless at this poetry thing, after all.
  2. The Field Flowers bloom in a wash of ephemeral beauty like cautious youth, awkward, gone so quickly and yet - The memory of a kiss, stolen, remains. A sweet thrill of hope, and love that might have been.

    The Proposition

Chapter 5 Max didn’t say what his proposition was, not right away. Instead, he had his butler Terrence take me to the room that had originally been mine, that night I had tried to escape. “The Master wishes to speak with you tomorrow,” Terrence informed me. “In the meantime, please feel free to do as you wish. If you need anything, just let me know.” He left, walking down the hall without even looking back. I opened the door to my room and realized it was just as luxurious as I remembered

    The Pact

Thanks! I've always admired the Native American worldview, and I totally had to write a story inspired by it.

    Conditioning

Chapter 4 The next few days followed a predictable routine. I would be left alone in the dark for what felt like hours at a time, only to be startled by the whistling sound which inevitably preceded the delivery of food into my cell. After the first few repetitions, I noticed that the amount of time between deliveries was roughly the same, and although I tried not to, I began to anticipate them with intensity that bordered on insane. They were the only break from the monotony, the painful da

    The Pact

Thank you for reviewing! I wanted to show a different kind of strength in this story, the strength of determination that a parent needs to have in the face of adversity. Adding the creepiness to the mix was irresistible.

Thank you! I was actually concerned it wouldn't be scary enough at first, but things took on a life of their own.

    The Pact

The Pact “Mommy, why are there so many spiders outside the house?” Meredith Jones yanked the kitchen curtains shut, steeping the room in uneasy twilight. “It’s okay, sweetie. They won’t hurt us.” Six-year-old Mary wasn’t convinced. “But they’re scary. And they look all funny with their eyes like that.” “That’s the way spiders look around here,” Meredith answered, trying to keep her voice calm. “But back in Virginia spiders were real small. And their eyes didn’t shine.” “This isn’t Virgi
