    The Pact

Glad you did! I'm thinking of reading it aloud to my fiancé this evening with some creepy candles and all. If only he weren't so easily spooked…

Thank you! I was actually concerned it wouldn't be scary enough at first, but things took on a life of their own.

    The Pact

The Pact “Mommy, why are there so many spiders outside the house?” Meredith Jones yanked the kitchen curtains shut, steeping the room in uneasy twilight. “It’s okay, sweetie. They won’t hurt us.” Six-year-old Mary wasn’t convinced. “But they’re scary. And they look all funny with their eyes like that.” “That’s the way spiders look around here,” Meredith answered, trying to keep her voice calm. “But back in Virginia spiders were real small. And their eyes didn’t shine.” “This isn’t Virgi

A Halloween special, and a response to prompt 457: Spiders.
  5. glad to hear the creepiness was achieved!
  6. some teens are sadly famous for ditching logic at key moments.
  7. omg - it does have a kind of Beauty and the Beast vibe (at least for now!)
  8. Yes, someone caught on to the convenient tree! Indeed, things were set a little too easy for Ryan to try and escape.
  9. lol - yeah, Ryan definitely was to blame for taking the cash. and he'll regret it.

    Confinement

Chapter 3 “I can't believe you were this stupid,” a gruff voice told me. I moaned. I tried to bring the room into focus, but everything was dark. And my head was spinning. Something hurt but it wasn't even sure what. "It was a lure, in case you didn't notice," the voice continued. I struggled to place it. I had heard it before, for sure. I tried to answer something, but all that came out was an incoherent mumbling. Why was everything still dark? "Anyway, he's got you now. Good luck." I
  13. I like to think that it's the money driving him forward, an offer too good to let by... for now.

Chapter 2 The door creaked as I closed it behind me, and the first thing I noticed about the room I was in was the smell. It reminded me of the forest, with notes of evergreen needles mixed with wood. It was actually quite pleasant, and when I turned around I could do nothing but stare for a few moments, slack-jawed. You know those interior design magazines that show houses of impossibly rich people just to tease you with how your own house could look if only had a couple million dollars
  15. thank you! since Halloween is coming up, this story will have a bit of a spooky undertone throughout ^^
  16. thanks!

  18. *rubs chin thoughtfully* Beauty and the Beast, you say?
  19. glad you think so! I have a thing for the wild forests of the NW of the US, which will hopefully show ^^
  20. the mystery will keep growing, trust me...
  21. Chapter 1. The fight with Greg I left my old life behind when I stepped out of the bus. I was glad to see it go. The bus, the people, the memories. I wanted to start over, to make some sense out of the mess everything had become over the last awful year. Going away was the only thing that was left for me to do, and after months and months of trying, I had done it. I had finally been able to escape. I shifted my backpack on my shoulders and looked down at the large black dog by my side. R

Ryan is only eighteen, but he knows what homelessness is like. When the offer came for a job out in the Oregon wilderness, no questions asked, he jumped at the chance. Three grand for two weeks' work sounded too good to be true. And maybe it is. His new boss is... strange. And Ryan has heard rumors that there were others before him, all of them young, hired to come and work at the manor. The funny thing is, none of them were ever seen again…
  23. yeah, totally! it's like letting the stories take you wherever
  24. "This would be easier if you actually told me what we're doing," Peter grumbled. Professor Haworth sighed. "I already told you. Altering a single space-time variable to see what the consequences are." "You never said it would be this boring." "You're getting your paycheck either way, aren't you?" the Professor snapped. Her glasses slid too far down the bridge of her nose and she pushed him back with an automatic motion. Peter raised both his hands, palms out. "Sorry, ma'am. I'm just here to
