The Verdict, Sentence, and Off to Rosharon
Zuri commented on Lee Wilson's story chapter in The Verdict, Sentence, and Off to Rosharon
Is the jury allowed to talk to the defendant? If not, this could be evidence—little, but if the bailiff remembers that … I understand, that Bully wants to punish Fred for being gay. Stephane was "punished" by dead—good for a homophobe, but wouldn't a death sentence for Fred or a whole life in prison be Bully's minimum? I find it interesting that you almost never explicitly indicate, who's talking in the courtroom, yet, due to us all being more or less used to legal drama, it's mostly not necessary anyway—it just works fine. I'm pretty sure, if you're desperate, you find suitable alternatives, even in a prison Can one deduct, that Fred is a bottom? Or is he vers? If the former is the case, this could have been another argument against the rape, but there must have been someone who would have been told 🤔 Just because the prisoner in charge likes sex with a real gay, it doesn't mean, he wants this asset to be taken from him. You usually don't have friends in prison, only favors and power, if any. Even that can be faked, however, usually not especially likely, but in the wake of AI … Attachment in prison might be more a weakness than an advantage 🤔 That's only just the first of seven days, the lawyer estimated. Well, there's a famous quote … 😉 -
Book Review: Goodbye to Berlin by Christopher Isherwood
Zuri commented on Drew Payne's blog entry in Words, Words and Words
I wouldn't be quite that harsh here. It's similar to how The Picture of Dorian Grey has a noticeable homoerotic subtext, though, Oscar Wilde was prohibited from going into further detail and even had to tone it down a bit. I became aware of Christopher Isherwood and this book, I stumbled upon the movie "Christopher and his kind" on YouTube, which wasn't very shy about him being gay and his male encounters. This is the opening narration: So, when I was in a gay bookstore in Hamburg, I bought a copy of "Goodbye to Berlin" and was surprised when these encounters never went farther than being subtly implied, sometimes being blatantly obvious, yet not talked about. In the movie adaption—one can argue about their realism—Christopher, when ask about his political views, states, that he doesn't care much about them, as he's only there for "the boys", and as a foreigner, he just conveniently leaves Germany when it becomes too dangerous. However, there's one scene from after the war, where Christopher meets his love interest, whom he lost contact with during the war, again, who now is in a heterosexual marriage, indicating that he has moved on, but is still closeted.- 5 comments

Thanks for the clarification 👍

His fathers testimony is not to his disadvantage, though, depending on how his brother views homosexuality, the testimony might have been against him Well, apparently, death as a result of rape is not second, but first-degree murder: One last thing: So, why is second-degree not an option?

Of course, I also recommend, checking out the novel if you're into it.

Jury Selection and the Prosecution's Case
Zuri commented on Lee Wilson's story chapter in Jury Selection and the Prosecution's Case
Didn't he wear gloves? Authors can be sadists sometimes—now that I think of that, it appears, more often than not 🤔 Is that really what a judge would say? Sounds a bit … judgmental Is the prosecutor influencing the jury in his opening statement by giving them a limited list of choices? Sure, someone clearly died here, but isn't that the judge's job and the prosecutor is overstepping a line here? -
That murder sequence … tough … Well, some evidence slipped through a tiny hole. Question is: Will it be found before it can't be anymore? Well, that's a hint, but if they considered Fred guilty, their reasoning would still work with two suspects. People sometimes rape their partners, be it because they don't get what they want in terms of sexual preference or power display or whatever. If they really want Fred to have a motive, they'll find one. Unfortunately, this bias is still very much in peoples' minds nowadays. Stephane might be stabbed somewhere, one can access by oneself, but Fred … that's a little trickier. Unless one has a thing for blindly stabbing oneself where one can't see oneself. Unfortunately, this holds true the other way round just as well.

Sounds intriguing 🤔 I wonder why there would be "only" five years if they expect it to have been a murder and how the dried blood can be explained—two questions, I'm excited to find out how well you have dealt with in terms of storytelling 😉

So, FINAL FANTASY players have an unfair advantage over those who aren't in foretelling your story? 😲

Like on the scale of Maat against the feather of truth? yeah, quite some wiggle room there, so to speak ^^ Not that much of an insult at all.

What a nice way of, after me having drown put on a pedestal, by placing on his story between Lord of the Rings and Indiana Jones, which he surprisingly didn't acknowledge accordingly due to the fact, that I also compared his work to Brokeback Mountain, grounding drown, by calling him "worse than the Beatles" 😉😜😂

Probably double standards for heterosexual content vs queer one, because Heterosexuals having to have sex or shoving their sexual orientation into everyone's face can't be bad for children, can it? 😉 I mean, Disney is not unknown for mere queerbating to keep both their conservative and progressive viewers. The company might be celebrated for taking a stand against Ron DeSantis, but they don't do that entirely voluntarily, and they've been reluctant to give queer representation some space in their works for quite a while. I didn't mean that Sheldon was gay but ace. He clearly expressed that to Amy. This view can come from his neurodivergent(?) nature, but still nothing that would have needed fixing nor would be convincing when seemingly "fixed". Maybe, I should have used the term "allonormative" (maybe even ableist, depending on Sheldon being neurodivergent) instead. While Jim Parsons is gay, of course, that doesn't mean that every character has to be gay, but c'mon, the way he portrayed Sheldon … I do get your point here. I hated it, when in Warehouse 13, Myka, who clearly had a thing for H. G. Wells and vice verse, was revealed to be straight and in love with her co-worker Pete all along all with a sudden IN THE FINALE. But at least, they had Steve as a queer character. Yeah, there are some pretty decent queer short films on YouTube:

I mean, isn't that what all dating shows are nowadays? Scripted reality, but make it horny? I mean, wasn't Love, Victor deemed to family-unfriendly because it being queer so it had to be moved from the main channel? I tried watching it and first thought, they did an interesting take on gays, and then they go to the storage room to … fuck? I mean, is that all, gay characters can do? Wasn't one of them so desperate to fall in love? Yes, I know, it's just a sitcom, but boy they messed up ace representation by just … healing Sheldon? I mean, this could have been turned in a stunning example of a show being able to do both funny AND serious topics, but no, they need heterosexual love interests for ALL of them. It's in my binge list. I will watch it next year. Got no time for a series this year. I LOVED that show. It's incredible that the protagonist's actor is also the writer of the show, and it is based on his own experiences. They tackled so many important topics in there, and quite sensitively, most of the time. ‘Intimacy Coordinators’….? I'm happy, this is becoming more and more common. Not just because actors need to feel safe, shooting these scenes, but I also hope, this will lead to a more realistic portrayal than laying under a blanket and doing an abstract, romanticized version of it. You are thinking of porn and erections here. Sure, these are also sex scenes, but that's where the similarities end. Even though, there have been full-front nudity in movie history, there are two things that are strictly forbidden in non-porn movies: showing real erections on screen (always fake penises in these scenes) having actors touch other actors' private parts And yes, there might be scenes where actors are almost naked and there are tricks required to make them appear naked. But intimacy is so much more than hiding private parts while showing as much skin as possible. Just think of all kinds of foreplay that could make you feel uncomfortable doing, when the other person is not your partner or date. Here are some recommendations on my own: It's not a new movie, but for those interested in as biopic-y one: Prayers for Bobby Another history piece (including Dolores Jane Umbridge actress Imelda Staunton😞 Pride And we can't leave high school movies out entirely: Geography Club (Also, see my comparison of novel vs movie, if you like) There are also quite interesting web series out there: If you love a good anthology series that also has very diverse characters and topics, Falling for Angels might be just for you: If you are more of the funny type, maybe #NoHomo is more to your liking: But you might not like contemporary comedy? Well, then Victorian, perhaps? >> More recommendations <<

Help your favorite authors! (Not sure if this goes here)
Zuri replied to JamesSavik's topic in The Lounge
I'm somewhat guilty of that when it comes to non-completed stories. I'm never sure when it's the right moment to comment on a story when I'm not sure in which direction it will eventually go. Another thing, similar yet different to reviews and on the title page as well, are recommendations. They seem to be overlooked just as well. However, they give an even quicker and more structured and therefore—if done well—more comparable overview of what to expect. I know, some authors have a different opinion on this, but I will die on the hill to say that reactions are nice, but they are considerably less helpful than comments. I'm aware that not everyone only resorting to emoji reactions is lazy, but that's a bit how it feels: It's lacking a personal touch, it's not telling much. And I'm not asking for a novel-length comment, but a few words coming from a real person with a distinct view of the story. Sure, this might be challenging at first, but it can give the author so much insight. -
I always strive to be at least one percent of coldmirror (who does the German Harry Potter equivalent of the "Back to the Future Minute" podcast)

jIyaj. buy' ngop. pe’vIl mu’qaDmey! Of raw flesh? It could have been, that they moved quite a lot. That's why I asked. They could have been nomads of sorts. The Ancients didn't have them either 😉 My pleasure! Thanks for posting your story, without which, I wouldn't be given the chance, to comment on! 💚 Qapla’!

For a moment, I thought, the narrator was a Klingon ^^ Yeah, Edna is just so entertaining—hope, she isn't gone for good this time. Unfortunately, what he liked more than answering questions, is nitpickingly correct people who asked the question or speak in riddles. I wonder: Are these two things strictly connected for werewolves? Yeah, since you are more Dave, you are responsible for nothing—pretty clever 😂 I hope, drowns CGI is better than in the 2019 Cats adaption. I'm not quite sure, if we want to see all of that ^^ So, Dave is actually Mexican, not American? Nice to have some diversity, not just with the sexual orientation but also with heritage, as we already saw that in Clara's and Dave's family. Though, it seems like this is not the last we heard from her, given their shrouded last meeting. Oh, I totally forgot to mention Stargate! 😨

But look at you: Having "Oregon in the Fall" being named side by side with Lord of the Rings and Indiana Jones after all 😉 I mean, isn't that something? And Liv treated him very terrible. But yeah, I suppose, the writers didn't really have a clear vision as to what to do with the character. So, being gay is ordinary? 😛 Thank wolf gods it is.
-
I have no clue whether you're offended or rofl-ing 🤔 Just had to put it in there to pull your leg (Twilight even more so, actually) 😜 Spoiler: At the end of season one, Liv bites Major to save his life, turning him into a Zombie as a result. Let's not be more Catholic than the Pope 😉 It's more about an "ordinary" young guy, suddenly meeting gods and developing superpowers (okay, that could be actually the description of almost every Marvel movie when I think about it 🤔)
-
Well, among other things: Chapter 1 and 2: Harry Potter Chapter 3: Twilight? Chapter 4 to 8: Brokeback Mountain Chapter 9: Twilight again? Chapter 10 and 11: Lord of the Rings Chapter 12: Indiana Jones Chapter 13 and 14: iZombie Chapter 14 and 15: Percy Jackson

As Ed Sheeran says, Maybe a polycule is in the cards—who knows 🤷♂️ Don't break your brain over it! Oh, I was just making sense 😅 Or so I thought, at least 💚 Or I'm one of the Slow Ones™️ Well, that's the way, I initially read it 🤷♂️
-
It seems like Chronos doesn't always get his way. You just crush our hopes 😜 We already know, that our main character gods speak ancient—and now, that Clara apparently is one of them, too, she probably can very well understand that, too, I suppose. I mean, that's one way to show affection 😉
-
And you're not doing time travel stories … sure 😉 Not only is he speaking English, he's speaking Plain English for the Slow Ones™️ by the Dense One™️. Sekhmet—Well, Clare sure is a lioness. So, she's not the wise one anymore. The brain of the trio, to be more precise, in terms of tropes. And, don't make Dave jealous, Grey. I mean, Mark has been enough already, hasn't it? And the end of another chapter in your story.
-
So, one unexpected surprise we're definitely not having in this story ^^

Oh neither can I But I am limited by the physical realities of this life. And I sometimes sleep, too. I'm working on it. What would we give for you having a time turner ^^
