After we got home from the grocery store, Max was helping me put away the groceries, and he asked, "Daddy, can we have tacos for dinner tomorrow?" I started to say, "Sure, honey, whatever you want." I got as far as "Whatev--" before I realized what he'd said. Then I started crying. That was the first time he'd ever called Morgan or I by anything besides our names. That was the first time he'd felt secure enough to do so. I was devastated in the best possible way. This little boy completely stole my heart in that moment.

Max is on the floor right now, pushing a little rubber ball around for Sneakers to amuse himself. Sneakers doesn't "fetch" the way a dog would; rather, he chases the ball with his nose and swats at it, like a cat.

The dog I mentioned earlier did that, too. The seizures threw off his balance/equilibrium. I really pray that Thistle's condition is treatable.

Found a new book on Goodreads. It won't be published until May 2022, but I thought it sounded good enough to share. Written by Shawn Amos, son of Wally "Famous" Amos, the story is a loose biography of his childhood.

Thanks, Clo. Thank you, Cassie. Right now, his favorite food is apples. Raw, baked, roasted; sweet, tart, savory....he loves 'em any way he can get them. He especially loves the Octoberfest pizza that I sometimes bring home from work.

Thanks, Gary, Bertie. He's a cheerful, energetic kid, and he's very active, physically. He loves to kick a soccer ball around, and he doesn't mind raking the leaves in the yard. Well, with some help; it's a good-sized yard for a city lot. He also enjoys helping in the kitchen, and likes to cuddle on the sofa during Movie Night.

I've had to reduce my hours at work, so I can get home earlier. It's not for anything negative, though it is serious. Before the pandemic broke out, Morgan and I talked about making a change in our lives. Because of the complexities of this change, and because of the restrictions put in place to protect minors, I couldn't say anything before now. Then COVID struck, and proceedings dragged on longer than it would have under normal circumstances. It wasn't easy, but then again, tasks worth the reward rarely are. As of yesterday, the adoption was finalized. Morgan and I are now the parents of a 9-year-old fellow named Max.

I once had a dog that did that, but he was much older than Thistle. I hope everything is okay for the wee lad.
