Sigh. Isn't it nice to love a guy in a tight uniform, and then to also know he's your very own superhero?

This is going to be in four chapters. Or, three and an epilogue. It's not terribly long. I had a few challenge stories I'd posted elsewhere but not here. A few of them will now make the trip. Goofy-foot was one. This is another.

Thanks. It's not a terribly long tale. And not new, either. But I'd never posted it here, and thought I might!

Again, I guess I was lucky. I grew up surrounded by books, including comics. And, with people that loved both.

Sorry. This con is in good ol' NYC. I have to say that a couple of guys walking the street there dressed as two superheroes wouldn't get lot of notice, either!

I used to attend science fiction conventions as a teen, and they were always fun. I never went in costume, but there were plenty of cute guys that did!

Justin and Kyle were attending a comic book convention in NYC, dressed as Speedy and Robin. They were having a great time until a complication occurred that changed their day, and their ideas on what superheroes were all about...

ALL of San Franciso isn't covered in poo and needles! Just the poo and needle district, down by the docks!

Considering that a number of older, retired San Francisco cops have been found to have run off with old hippy friends, it seems a logical conclusion!

Well, the police report WAS a little vague...

Fred? Um...oh. Fred! He seems to have disappeared! Evaporated! Gone poof! A bright light was seen in the sky near his rural home the night before he vanished, and strange, three-toed footprints found all around the house the next day. The police do not suspect foul play, though, as a note was found on the kitchen table by his ham radio set that simply said, 'They finally answered! I'm going!' The police suspect he ran off with a bunch of his old hippie friends from San Francisco. I have other suspicions, myself.

I went the same road. I was able to read before I got to school, and I found comics a great deal of fun. And then books, and film, later. Um, not to mention PEOPLE! It's impossible to document the human experience without humor, because, even standing at the gallows, it seems we can find something that's funny!

Well, I just discussed why the footprints were visible in my previous comment. It's all good!

The events Ragal mentioned to Rick were things that could be done while visiting the realities there. Things Ragal HAD done, while he was dead! The lower layer, as explained before, is a place all by itself. One thing is does do, though, is mirror the REAL universe. Those that reside there can spend their time exploring the mirror of the real universe, as it was explained that Billy and Will did in earlier stories. This would mean being able to view and explore - but not interact with - every place in every galaxy in the real universe. It could take an eternity just to look in on everything that happens in the mirror of reality. But those in the lower layer can also ELECT to manufacture their own realities that operate according to a set of predefined rules, like Jol and so many others have done. Those not wishing to create their own reality can spend their time (their mutable reality, rather) visiting and exploring the realities that others have made, providing visitors are allowed in the rules. The number and variety of things to DO in the lower layer is immense! The plain outside the library the guys created was circled with the tree-like portals that led to manufactured realities. Ricky likened it to cars in a parking lot. These were interfaces with private realities like Jol's, where someone from one of those realities had come to visit the library. As long as they were visiting inside the library, the interface 'tree' remained outside. Once they left the library and went back to their reality, the tree went away, too. Since Charlie and the others went into Jol's reality from the 'parking lot', they could return there from Jol's reality even if the original visitor had left, because the guys would THEN become visitors from jol's reality to THEIR library on the return trip. And, Chirka had some measure of control over that, via the precipitator. I don't think Charlie and the others felt that Rance and Eleanora had lied to to them. It is clearly discussed in the story that they think Tallfield's family was simply not told all the facts after his death. The town engaged in a cover-up, easy enough to do at that time in history. Auggie making them invisible and unhearable was clearly defined as a process confined to a bubble around them. When they stepped back from the rear door of the bank, that bubble moved with them. Since they were really THERE in the past, of course they would leave footprints in the snow. But as they moved back from that spot, and the bubble of invisibility moved with them, those footprints by the door would become exposed and visible to anyone standing there.

Wow. I haven't read the Sector General stuff since I was 13!
