Yes, sir. My dad started collecting comics in the mid fifties, and easily collected issues back into the late 40's. He collected up until about 1962 or so, I guess. Later, he went to Vietnam, and then traveled the world after he was discharged. He met my mom in Amsterdam, and that's where my sister, my brother, and I were born.
The culture there was very different from here, but my dad was (is) a diehard Yank, and insisted that we kids learn American culture. So I knew about Batman, Superman, and the like before I ever came here. Among a great many other things!
When we did finally move here, I started reading late 70's comic books, and read both the DC and the Marvel. They were twenty-five to thirty-five cents then, as I recall. My dad waited until he was sure I was hooked, and then went off one Saturday to his parent's house, and returned with eight large boxes full of comic books. I was allowed to read them carefully, while he taught me about collecting and conserving them. I still have those comics today.
I always enjoyed the Marvel group, but I have always had a fondness for Superman and Batman comics of the 40's and 50's. They were so much FUN!
