The word 'tor' is a contraction of the English word 'tower', and refers to any rocky, jagged peak. I envisioned the tors in this story as more like the towers of their namesake, being tall and more columnar then typically mountainous. The use of 'tor' here was also a nod at the publisher of science fiction and fantasy.

I had to sort of pace the guys learning new talents. Give them, too much, too quickly, and they'd seem omnipotent. Where's the fun in that?
