No question. Especially if the system in place to address these sorts of problems is just as biased at the source of the trouble!
  2. I'm fine. Just been a very busy few months. For us all!

Thank you for the nice comment!

    Chapter 1

Haha. Good luck with picking them out of that picture. I had my own picks, but they didn't match what others picked. It's almost time to write another one of these. Heck, these guys are probably middle-aged by now!

Thirty or forty years ago, parents were more limited in what they could do if they felt their kid had been targeted for unusual punishment by a school staff member. The remedy might have been just to move the kid to another school. But a good lawyer would know better. In this case there is a definite difference between normal 'discipline' and deliberate harassment by school officials. Having an educator enlist the aid of students to torment one or more other students is legally actionable. Even in 1980! The problem here in this story is not the subject of corporal punishment per se, but of a school official using that practice to deliberately target one or more students based on personal or prejudicial dislikes. Purposely generating incidents for which punishment can be administered is blatantly illegal. Even in 1980.

History speaks. The more powerful, those with the superior technology, always seem to trample the less fortunate. I am still waiting for the meek to inherit the earth.
  8. All I can offer is a hug and a kind word. No...two kind words. Be well! 🙂

    Chapter 13

Thanks. I like this series, but I have a ton of other stuff in the works or needing completion. I want to get back to it, but when? Dunno. Thanks for the great comments!

I'm not surprised that this story is getting some attention. This sort of treatment in public schools deserves that. Jackson is the sort that needs to learn his lesson the hard way, I guess. I have a feeling you won't let us down! It is an indictment of our nation that we treat the people that were here before us as some sort of intruders. There is much less active hostility towards Native Americans than there once was, but indifference and neglect are also just as hurtful as active hostility. People are people, everywhere. Nice to see these two guys together!

Thank you for the great comment! Being young is always best when it's fun. I was lucky, and being young was was fun for me. I kind of enjoy passing that along!

Ivor, you do realize there needs to be more of this? Just sayin'! But what is here is quite a good read. Thanks!

I was surprised to learn that corporal punishment in the form of spanking is still legal in 19 US states. Most parents I know would be pissed off to learn that some minor school zealot was spanking their kid because he refused to get a haircut. THAT is probably illegal, anyway. It's one thing under the law to discipline an unruly child, and another to do so to enforce a personal bias against long hair. And a bias that crosses racial lines, too! I expect Ethan's compassion to win out here. I mean, look who's writing this story!
  14. I really liked Mr. Corker. Just goes to show that you don't need a voice to convey a wonderful disposition. Loved the way he told the team he loved them as they were ready to go with the guys. And I'm sure that Boone and Coy will love them, too. So they have the land, and the team, and the wagon...and each other. I know we're near the end of this tale. I'm actually not ready to be there! Maybe a follow-up will be in order? I'll see when I get to your ending. Which will be soon.

    Chapter 5

Hmm. A new start for both of these guys? Or, maybe 'start' isn't the right word. A turn, maybe, and hopefully for the better. They are very much alike, I think. Ethan and Michael may be at two different places on the the same line. The picture and the newspaper clipping suggest this is not the first time Ethan has struck back at something intolerable. Doubt Michael's dad called the cops. He doesn't seem the type to invite close scrutiny. But are we done with him? Hard to say. Very interesting story you're laying out here. I know I am reading it slowly, but that has in no way slowed it down!

Sorry for the delay. I have my own business, and it has picked up again hugely lately. It's a very straightforward story. No spoilers from me.

    Oh. Never mind.

    Chapter 1

Yes, Thrift Shop Nation is one of my early stories. The octagonal house story is one in the Charlie Boone series, a Halloween adventure. I responded to your PM on the Tuschinski Theater. I'm going to look into its history and see what stories it has to tell. The place is just gorgeous inside, but that is not unusual at all for Amsterdam. I don't know when I'll get back to the Amsterdam tales, but there will be another one. Or two, or....

    Chapter 6

Sorry for the delay getting back. This is a busy time of the year for me. 🙂 I don't know how much of this i can answer. You'll get a better idea of some of what is happening if you finish the story. But some of the mystery must prevail for now. I have to let the characters find out on their own!
