THERE'S a memory jog!
I started on Commodores and KayPros, way back. Got my first IBM PC in 1983. I had a 1200 baud modem, which was fast at that point, and then a 2400 baud later, than 9600, and lastly a 14400. I used to log in through the University, which was wide-open, and could visit most other academic sites easily, both in the US and outside it. Even many government sites. Security was non-existent back then. FTP, telnet - way different times.
I ran a game board BBS starting in around 1985, first on QuickBBS, than RemoteAccess, a look-alike with greater ANSI capabilities. TradeWars, Operation Overkill, Global War. That was a hell of a lot of fun! I still have all this software on floppies, and a 486 in the closet that still has WIN93 on it.
Blast from the past!
