That sounds pretty positive, actually. I have long read that Moscow was not representative of all of Russia, and was a unique high point. I tend not to want to judge places I have never seen, though. I do love Amsterdam, and the parts of western Europe I have visited, and feel the public transportation system the Dutch have in place there is quite easy to get along with, as are most aspects of life.
Politics can tarnish even a decent place to live, if they are of the sort one would rather not experience. When it comes time for you to retire, I hope you can do that in a place that's comfortable and welcoming. I'm sure you'd prefer that to be where you are now. But, only time will tell.
