  1. As I was reading this, I was thinking: harp music? Glad I was right. You can tell which songs or arias were real hits in the second quarter of the C19 by how many of these sorts of fantasies or sets of variations were produced for either harp or piano. Interesting to hear instead of seeing on the page.
  2. This is just my public acknowledgement of what this meant to me. Thank you, AC. (And the choices were spot on, as well.)
  3. I'm not a composer - but I've definitely been on the receiving end: 115 bars later, I have a note ... Wonderful!
  4. As you can see above, I've unmasked myself... Thank you for your generous comments, I appreciate them very much.
  5. Thanks for this, AC - I managed to pass my A level Latin without ever having to do any composition so, although I did try for a bit to do it in Latin, I failed miserably. I think I might smuggle it away ...
  6. The blog post I've just made reproduces those two poems together with another two - one, Parker has seen, the other hasn't been seen by anybody else - yet ... Comments would be appreciated ...
  7. I confess to being the guilty party - blame the reasons I've been away, partly and just the sense of disbelief that I'd produced something resembling poetry ... I can't thank Parker enough for his patience and his faith that somewhere I had some poetry - although why he thought that, I really don't know. The dedication I attached was not done as decoration.
  8. - Drew = me + Drew = me so best outcome is me + which = all's right with the world ..
  9. *... and gets caught by the musician queen who promptly legs it for home.* Bye bye
  10. Tim, there's plenty more where that came from. As well as Tallis, try William Byrd (Sing joyfully) and Thomas Tomkins (When David heard).
  11. While you two are snoozing, shiny and I will waltz off into the far distance. Oh, and have you noticed the super glue ...?
  12. Shiny doesn't want to be you, it would much rather be with me! So easy ... Mine
  13. Peter Warlock was a strange English composer of the 1920s and early 1930s (he changed his name from Philip Heseltine) but his music is well worth a listen. Mostly they're songs but this piece Capriol Suite for strings is his best known. They're his re-imaginings of dances from the Elizabethan era.
  14. Welcome LBO! Just remember if you see me here with shiny, you can't snatch it ... I'll leave other people to comment on the Ravel - I have a blind spot when it comes to Bolero
  15. You were deposed recently, I believe ... I'll take the shiny, it's mine by right!
  16. Just simply you mentioning it and the title theme started playing in my head. When did I last hear it? I can't remember. Don't worry about posting in clumps - it's what several of us end doing here.
  17. Emi, feel free to add your comments to anything here, particularly if it's something you've tried and enjoyed.
  18. Are zombies really that gullible I guess they are ... Anyway, the shark's still feeling peckish ... Thanks, I'll take that!
  19. Sorry, took me a bit to get to this ... Not a composer I've come across before. I liked the introduction particularly; the main section, I could have done with a little less figuration but the interjections of a hymn? chorale? or whatever were effective. Thanks for that, AC.
  20. It's the lunatic pink penguin, again ... *Sighs* Ok, pengy, I've got a nice, hungry shark here in a tank. Hand over the shiny or else Oh, and don't think of throwing me in, it only likes penguins ...
  21. I love the sort of psychological horror stories which involve plants, trees or other vegetation. You can't reason with a tree if it's coming to get you ... The ivy is less overtly threatening but its continued health and vigour (or lack of it) increasingly dominates the story. This tale of poverty, love and sacrifice is touchingly related and the ending is deserved – happy ever after!
  22. What's wrong with a fabulous deluded pink penguin? Everything! My shiny
  23. In beauty may I walk from the Navajo trans. Jerome K. Rothenberg In beauty may I walk All day long may I walk Through the returning seasons may I walk Beautifully will I possess again Beautifully birds Beautifully joyful birds On the trail marked with pollen may I walk With grasshoppers about my feet may I walk With beauty may I walk With beauty before me may I walk With beauty behind me may I walk With beauty above me may I walk With beauty all around me may I walk In old age, wandering on a trail of beauty, lively, may I walk In old age, wandering on a trail of beauty, living again, may I walk It is finished in beauty It is finished in beauty On the theme of finding beauty in everything - a good thing if you can manage it or something to strive for, perhaps.
  24. I also love the music for LOTR - this is a selection of music for Rohan (film 2) https://youtu.be/2IOyNjCSnf8
  25. I'm not having the shiny associating with a pink penguin Come on, shiny, away with me!
