    Out and About

No, but it's not what you expect when you buy something like that. Like you, I read labels, or use only places which I trust. Sausages are another case in point. For those, i definitely want to know the ingredients: too many opportunities to dump all kinds of suspicious this and thats. 🤢

To some extent, I suspect you get what you pay for. There's always a reason why some things are suspiciously cheap. Even now in the UK at least, all ingredients and their proportions have to be listed, I wonder how many people bother to look? I do.

Yeah, that's another issue with Eric - he never learned to drive, never mind own a car. Rural transportation has never been wonderful, though it has got worse in recent years. In national conversations about inter-generational equality, things like free bus passes are up for discussion. It's actually quite a recent thing - about 15 years?

    Out and About

dugh! You made me think again with your summing up. I suppose an element of Eric's isolation is the lack of friends and relations to pull him away from a rigid, unvarying life. It does need some determination sometimes to go out for a trip if you're on your own. Maybe it was safer to only be around those people who knew him? Are there still people like that? My guess is yes.

    Out and About

I imagine Eric has his fair share of days when he feels blue. Most of them won't be spent in the close company of someone else though.

Yeesss... Everyone has their off days, and Eric is away from home. However nice Andy's place is, it isn't the same.
  7. On a bright, sunny day the following week, Eric stood with Andy in the area under the ancient, first-storey market house in the centre of town. It was the morning of the supper party. The older man leaned against one of the stone pillars which supported the timber-framed building. They were waiting for something, or someone. Which it was, Eric didn't quite know. He turned to his companion to settle the question. Andy was idly watching the world go by. “I still don't understand why we're wait

Yeah, I always enjoy writing her. As for Geoff, I imagine Tony will gradually get him to whittle down the old favourites.

    Getting Ready

I suspect there's a widespread resistance over here. And the waiting times for NHS-provided talking therapies tend to be very long. For this aspect, once he's been on one holiday and found it's OK, maybe he'll settle down. I think he will.
  10. Getting back early from work on Thursday, Geoff stood in the hallway and debated what to do next. They were off on their holiday the following morning, and things needed to be done. What though? He tried to recall what they discussed the day before. Some of it came to mind: primarily those things Tony said he would do. Route planning, food, and other supplies were his boyfriend's preserve. Which were his? Geoff shook his head. As it so often did, indecision removed the capacity to think logicall

What do we know about the first drafts put in by commercially-published authors?

@frosenblum Another conquest! Eric in particular, has wormed his way into so many hearts. He's a character very close to mine. Thank you for your praise. That you put me ahead of such an accomplished author as @Carlos Hazday is added kudos that makes me .

It takes a certain sort of person to communicate effectively with a class. Eric might have life experiences to pass on but he's not in the position to do it: he's still shy, he lacks social interactions, and his knowledge of kids and how they are, is virtually nil.

They're not at that stage yet. Nowhere near. Adam has still to realise / learn what's going on. I imagine encounters between him and both his parents are quite rare, and if the abuse is kept to the marital home, then it's that more difficult to spot.

He might be. His creator has some way to go before she can live up to his billing... But yes, you're right, dugh. Eric's much more hands-on approach should complement Andy's. We'll see.

Thanks! Glad it's still keeping your interest.
  21. They're both for the same chapter, 'Together'. Here's another one soon after, with alexk appearing 3 times for the one reaction:

It often takes someone new to remind you how special something is. Especially if it's a routine part of life - job, longtime hobby, where you live ... It's certainly made me stop and think, then appreciate.

Yeah. It might appear clear cut and a no-brainer to an outsider, but as @Puppilull comments: And you can't force someone to leave their partner. They must do it themselves, with support and encouragement aplenty, but it's their task.

Yes... but I suspect it's not that easy. In their conversation, she's torn between agreeing with Adam (in her head), and defending her husband out loud. It would be easier for her, if the time ever comes, to speak to someone neutral, I think. We'll see... It's such a universal interest. I've recently found another friend here on GA largely through our shared love of gardening even though we're continents apart.
  25. Seems to be my day for this ... I noticed it last week but didn't do anything about it. It's just happened again and I did a capture. Again I think it's only since the upgrade. Previously, notifications for the same thing ie liking the same chapter at roughly the same time were condensed into one notification. Now, that still happens, but it also displays the last notification separately. See attached capture. If this is how it's meant to be, sorry... Windows laptop running Chrome.
