The opening completely perplexed me until the fantasy became clear. I thought maybe you were trying a new style. But a heck of a lot of people get through their lives only with the help such escapism. Hopefully Devon's life won't need so much on the future, unless, as Parker says, he decides to put them onto paper.
It's still quite difficult to rid yourself of the idea that the doctor knows best. Time pressures, fixed thinking, and a lack of basic empathy are all reasons why they sometimes don't. It must be both scary and immensely frustrating to have to work against the bulk of the medical profession. You put that across very well but I agree with the other comments that it needs more. The story read like something written to a word limit - that can be good apart from the feeling of 'More, please'.
He is; but Eric is also fiercely independent. Yes, he's allowed Andy in a little - there's still a long way to go. One source of tension between the two is how far the older man will surrender to the offers of help.
Keep reading, drought. Photos and video of Pride events do tend to focus on the young, beautiful, extravagant attendees. My local Pride has been running a project to include older queer individuals in both that event and the wider LGBTQ community.
Enjoy Framline.
Eric opened his front door, dumped the bags on the floor, and collapsed into his chair without bothering to take his coat off. He felt knackered; completely and utterly done-in. A mug of tea would have to wait until he caught his breath. He hadn't done so much in a day for decades. A mirthless chuckle escaped his lips. God, it showed how restricted his life was when a round trip of thirty miles assumed the proportions of an expedition. He did it all on his own though. That was something to be pr
@ObicanDecko Thanks for your very kind comments. Although I feel happier about the pacing, I'm still relieved when someone like you says they enjoy it.
Soul Music is nearly written chapter to chapter (the first book was; the second, I tried to have one or two in reserve). Around this, I have to juggle the rest of my writing (here and elsewhere). This takes a toll. I've decided to give myself the summer and autumn off. Consider yourself lucky. Fans of Never Too Late will have to wait considerably longer for their next fix (once this volume concludes).
Though I only rarely read these stories, I always enjoy your combined invention, humour, and subversion. When your boss starts acting out of character? Yes, scary; very scary. Thanks, both.
@Headstall Thanks, Gary. I deliberately left it open to interpretation. Yes, it means one thing to me, but I'm happy for other people to find different meanings.
@dughlas I would've liked to see you as a Scots laird. I should've made it clearer I was referring to the current use of 'marches' or 'marcher'. Used in a geographic or heritage context on the Welsh border, it's not heard in Northumberland.
