Indeed. Very much pre-minimum wage, agricultural / estate workers were amonst the lowest paid, I think. In Eric's case, the tied accommodation would've been one excuse to under pay him.

I imagine the issue is time. The admins here have other lives as well as devoting a large amount of time and effort to the site. Might there be mileage in convening a group of members to maintain and enliven the Twitter account (within a framework, of course)?

Is Eric ready to meet a gay man about his age? And one who's possibly had a very different life. That would hit even closer to home than seeing the two lads living their lives.

Yes, it is. Eric, for all his ignorance, routines, and poverty, is still an individual with self-determination and pride. No-one with his happiness at heart should forget that.

Indeed - having eaten something vaguely Spanish last night, and possibly a curry tonight. While he worked, I imagine Eric as someone who ate for fuel, not interested in new tastes or ordering in. I would think having reached his age, it'd be difficult for him to really venture out.

I like the guide to making chapter comments etc - when I first joined, the prospect of putting digital pen to paper scared the hell out of me. When I like a post on someone's WordPress blog, a little box flashes up, asking me if I want to comment. While Automattic is in a rather different league, I wonder how difficult it would be to construct something like that for the story part of the site?

On this side of the pond, mostly we only see the big picture, not how it affects individuals. And certainly not the story of the trucker. However you feel about immigration, common decency and kindness towards those individuals should be expected. Those people running what have been described as 'concentration camps' in the US should be the ones punished, not a man doing what is right. Thank you for this. A sobering, shameful read. What chance the trucker gets freed on appeal, I wonder?

That is so true. Eric might be slower and perhaps he doesn't pack the plants in quite hard enough but he needs to do it himself.

I think the whole point of the raised beds was that Eric could do his own planting. As a gardener, there's nothing quite like planting out yourself, getting that connection between you, the plant, and the soil.

Yes, as long as you don't wall yourself off, I think. I often enjoy my own company but I'm not against meeting other people.

I'm in the middle of replying to comments on my latest chapter and I'm finding the box isn't clearing every time after a reply has posted. See example ... Although it says it's saving, the reply has already posted. Laptop using latest Windows and Chrome. Having returned to the other screen after posting this, the comment box is still stuck as shown here.

How wonderful. Certainly a large spoon would be OKish for container soil which hasn't had much growing in it yet. Isn't it just. Think back to their first meeting... plenty of cantankerous behaviour on view then.

English is a mongrel language, importing words from all over the place. It's part of what makes it so rich and so expressive. I remember @Parker Owens tried to get me to change 'secateurs'. It's a word regularly used here and like you, if it's new, it's easy enough to find out its precise meaning.

The same evening, Adam paced around the living room, clearly too agitated by the conversation thus far to remain seated. Andy watched him closely. Following what he'd shared about Felicity and her probable abuse, Adam's anger was to be expected. His partner was also thinking. He recognised the look of everything being focussed internally. He hoped Adam had some ideas about the possible courses of action. People couldn't be forced to accuse others, he knew, but surely other avenues were open?
