    Happenings

No, as he says: They were both expecting an ordinary morning, perhaps with a little more aggravation because of the weather ... And then this happens. Eric's even more worked up, and Brian has to process something completely new. How will it resolve?

Thanks, Geron. I appreciate your praise. Eric's morning started off badly and it's only got worse. I imagine it's a day he'll remember for a long time.

    Happenings

I don't know. As @droughtquake comments later, Brian has no experience of LGBT people. That doesn't mean he's against them in general, or Eric in particular. Yes, he will have to learn. His wife is much more sensible in that regard than he is.
  4. Eric stared gloomily out of the window at the wintry weather. So much for thinking that spring might be on its way. Sometimes the beginning of March could be worse than January. There was a hard frost overnight and many surfaces outdoors were covered in a thin layer of glittering white. Some parts might be icy as well. He opened the front door and took a step outside. Even though the sun was shining, it was still very cold. Eric quickly retreated back inside, closing the door behind him. Was

    Chapter 16 Vote

How appropriate is this: the ad above your poem is for the WWF. Here in the UK, temperature records have been broken repeatedly over the past few days. It might just be a freak; it might well not. Thanks for this, Gary.

Thank you. You're very kind to say so. I was pleased with it. Indeed. Terrifying is the word - there, the Middle East, and still too many other places.

Thank you for unwittingly giving me some of the inspiration, dear friend. And for commenting here and on Pencil.

Your comments always make me think, @droughtquake I wouldn't presume to comment on anyone else's actions. And you're right, in some ways LGBTQ individuals in both our countries have it easy ... ish. At least, it'll look that way from many other countires.

    Distractions

Thank you! Eric might have some of his sharpest corners taken off, but I don't think he's changed at heart. Once a grumbler, always a grumbler?

Very true. Just because I've put that story in the past, it doesn't mean that everything's OK in the present.

Thanks, Adi. Sometimes that's all a story needs - as a writer and as a reader.
  12. In the lounge, Marty bent over another crate. He filled it with books replete with childhood memories: his mother reading him to sleep even when he was old enough not to need it. Why she kept them, he had no idea. At this rate the entire town's charity book stock would be courtesy of her. He ran his finger down a battered, dog-eared Biggles novel which she gave him one Christmas. With a sigh, he stood upright, trying to ease his back and flexing his equally sore knees. "Marty? Come and see t

You do indeed. Thank you for your kind comments and I hope you continue to enjoy Eric's story.

What a lovely way of putting it. And true as well.

I would be disappointed if nothing like this was out there somewhere. Some young people allow themselves to learn from older members of society, why not in this sphere?

    Distractions

Yes, indeed. Many people have this opportunity in one form or another, but choose not to act on it. Eric may not have much education, but his mind is open.

Yes, indeed. Andy's world hasn't been turned upside down like Eric's, but it certainly has been changed.

I had to go looking for this, but it led me to the same organisation as I was thinking of: the National Garden Scheme. There's also a Red Cross series as well, I think. Gardening is very big in the UK and there's a nosy thrill to seeing someone else's, especially if it's usually private. One of my brothers lives in a village where several gardens (including his) opened on the same day for the scheme.

    Distractions

indeed, but I think it's quite easy to get into the mindset that other people's problems are more deserving than yours. Especially if you're just finding out about them, like Eric is.
  20. Later the same evening, the two men relaxed on the sofa, only half watching some period detective drama on the TV. Andy had his tablet out and was tapping away, occasionally raising his head to see what was happening on screen. Adam wondered what his partner was doing, but assumed it was work-related. He was paying a little more attention to the unnecessarily complex screenplay. It seemed to contain a whole boatload of red herrings. In fact, he was lost – several of the characters looked so
  21. You'll have to keep on reading for that and more on Wes. [I'm currently experiencing tech issues - see story topic for details. Next chapter of T&G will be a little delayed.]

Thank you, dear friend. It's exasperating, but hardly the end of the world.

    Beware Gremlins

Thanks, Tim. I might indeed get some reading done, but I am behind with my writing projects so there'll still be scribbling.
