[Jack Scribe] Life's a Grind
Jack Scribe replied to Jack Scribe's topic in Promoted Author Discussion Forum
"Ree-beep, ree-beep, pass the Bearnaise, Francois." When I lived in Chicago (the first time), my S.O. and I had condos next door to each other. Confused some of our single friends (until they found someone) but it worked for us. Oh, BTW, Connor...as much as I'm impressed with the list you compiled concerning talented Canadian entertainers, John Mayer is a Connecticut Yankee. In fact, he went to school with tennis phenom James Blake. Jack -
[Jack Scribe] Life's a Grind

Desert Fantasies will be ready for posting right after Labor Day. Drew and Bob - the protaganists from It Stay's in Vegas - are in the last stages of opening a new casino resort called Barcelona. But in this volume, the guys share the limelight with a 16-year old runaway and a few characters who work in the less-than-legitimate shadows of the Vegas Strip. Thanks to all for your continued support. I'm doing some traveling this summer. Off to Chicago in a couple of weeks. In August, I'll be on a road trip to Denver. May find CJ in the Arizona desert and enjoy a glass of tea with him. Will come home via Las Vegas...a little story research. Damn. Can't figure out how to write this off as a business trip. I do want to see The Beatles LOVE by Cirque du Soleil at the Mirage and check out The Wynn. It had not yet opened the last time I was in that town. Jack -
I concur, Conner. Great country, great people. Here's an interesting fact: "O Canada" was proclaimed Canada's national anthem on July 1, 1980, 100 years after it was first sung on June 24, 1880. Jack

ATTENTION! I have just finished the first volume, Soldiers, and IMHO this is one of the finest written Internet stories I have read. Period. Choose the words: thoughtful, provocative, exciting, erotic, love, violent, introspective. They all fit. I am just blown apart by the writing and the emotion. Be prepared for a riveting journey. This is one of the great love stories. In this case, the protaganists don't have time to ask, "How do I love thee?" You can't count the ways due to dodging the bullets. I now begin the second volume, Mercenaries. Jack P.S. The end of Chapter 15 is perhaps the most romantic gay episodes I have ever read. It sizzles. Tsssst.

First, I think the following will happen: 1. The boys will miss their plane to Hawaii. 2. They will find a semi-seedy hotel room on Van Buren to "wait" until the next flight. 3. Steve will be inspired to touch-up Chris's blond hair colour (Spelling in honour of Graeme). 4. They hear noises in the next room and recognize the voice of Thaddeus and two other males groaning. Then you can take it from there with the other suggestions. Good technical chapter. Ready for a little 'Aloha' time. Jack

[Jack Scribe] Life's a Grind

A reader pointed out that having a rent-control apartment in the DePaul area of Chicago was gold. However, I felt that the home had a lot of emotional baggage for Jer and it was time to move on. Jack -
[Jack Scribe] It doesn't rain in Hell.

I decided to create a political satire theme that mirrored my absolute disgust with the Congress - who now have a 14% approval rating from the U.S. citizens - and their fumbles/deceits/mismanagment of the immigration/illegal alien issue. To hear Senator Kennedy singing, in Spanish, on Spanish language radio stations was a hoot (and completely embarrassing). BTW, the story was banned on Nifty! They sent an apologetic note saying that the political nature of the story risked their non-profit, tax-exempt status. I dip into aggressive writing when I'm angered. BDSM is a genre that seems to work to "blow off steam". The short story, Different Choices, was written in response to the Katrina fiasco. Usually, I'm pretty mellow. Jack -
Absolutely! River and Keanu were terrific. If you go back to AMC archives, check out the subtle gay theme (because of the times) of Cat on a Hot Tin Roof. The Elizabeth Taylor character (Maggie) was continually frustrated because the Paul Newman character (Brick)couldn't satisfy her. And then recall the sensitive lad in Tea and Symphony. There was no doubt where Tom's sexual orientation was pointed (pun intended). Jack

I'm the only kid. No swirls...but I'm left-handed (Although I played golf right handed and batted right handed.). And my idex finger is longer than the ring finger. I won't go into any other dimensional aspects. Jack

This was highly recommended by Pecman @ AD and I enthusiastically concur. "It's a very simple tale of two young teenagers who fall in love, but I thought the mood and the characters were really quite charming." http://library.gaycafe.com/nifty/gay/young...summersong.html. Enjoy, Jack

I agree with the suggestion to find a young lion or tiger. The monkey avatar looks too much like the actor George Burns in "Oh, God." And you don't want to become the target of all those lame 'spanking the...' jokes. Jack

HAPPY BIRTHDAY Michael! I also thank you for your thoughtful comments in the forums. Have a great dayand enjoy Bondwriter's gateau! Jack

It's all that...but so well written. This is not for the faint hearted. Just finished the first chapter and I'm ready for more! Thanks for the recommendation. I'll reserve my judgement whether or not it's an anti-war statement hiding in the shadows of violence. Jack

Gyms are definitely a great place to meet people. I met my S/O in the steam room of the West Side "Y" in New York. I had just come out and wasn't too sure about how to express interest...especially when you're sitting without a stitch of clothing on, amongst other nude men, dripping wet from the heat. He kept trying to make eye contact and I just got more nervous...and thankfully too nervous to get physically excited. I finally got up courage and smiled when I left the steam room. We both showered (this was a busy place so it's not like we were alone) and dressed. Our lockers were at opposite sides of the room so there was no casual way to randomly chat. He walked by me on his way out and I nodded. As he left, I thought to myself, 'Another one has slipped out of my grasp.' A feeling you have after someone interesting cruises by and you do nothing. Later, you want to kick yourself. On this beautiful fall afternoon, a parade was moving down Central Park West. It picqued my curiosity as I left the "Y" and I walked closer to the activities. Suddenly, out of the corner of my eye, I spotted my guy sitting on a high railing. He turned to me and flipped on a 50,000 watt grin. It took my breath away for a moment. I returned the smile and strolled over. There was no way I was going to let shyness interfere with my hunt, this time. We introduced ourselves and started talking. Lame crap...but it got the ball rolling. One thing led to the other and we casually walked across the park. He suggested we continue to 3rd Avenue for a beer and a burger at a place he liked. Later, Chuck invited me to his nearby apartment. That started a relationship that lasted 17 years. Oh, BTW, we always told people we had met at a dinner party. We consider each other great friends...even though we're no longer together. Jack

Hi BE, Welcome to GA! Graeme, JSmith and TalonRider offered excellent advice. First, ask JSmith (Joe) to designate you as an "Author." Then, it would be interesting for you to post a short portion of your story in Sneak Peeks. In that your story's protagonist has an unusual condition - not that rare, I was a camp counselor years ago and had a couple of teen bed wetters - it might be wise to write a brief prologue. You have described conditions about some of the characters and attitudes. A plot lays out the main direction of the story. What the neighbor does with the information after the incontenance is revealed would be considered more of a plot. Fatherless boy and a friendly neighbor (a man?) father figure? Maybe there's a love interest between the neighbor and the mother? A younger brother who drives the older brother nuts could be fun. Once you're designated as an "Author", do visit the Writer's Corner and Editor's Corner often. There are some excellent topics concerning writing with which you could participate. There are so many things to consider: punctuation, typos, tense, dialogue, spelling. Are you going to write in first person? Although I now prefer third person, it is usually easier to start out in first person. Seeking out an editor is key to any author's success. Don't be shy in getting advice. Finally, pick out a fun avatar and think of creating something in the "signature" area that says something about you. There's a good group of men and women of all ages and stripes with whom you'll enjoy interacting here at GA. Good luck. Look forward to seeing your story. Jack

[Jack Scribe] the end of It Stays in Vegas
Jack Scribe replied to bdadtopper's topic in Promoted Author Discussion Forum
Lustful, indeed! SOP in Vegas. FYI, I'm working right now on the second volume of this story. Desert Fantasies will be out in September. Jack -
Ewww, to much information! Very funny, Viv! Maybe it's a bill for the boxed potatoes that Morgan didn't like? Jack
-
Hmmm. Two guys dancing and stripping. That theme sounds familiar. Nice chapter. Hawaii will be a nice change of pace. But they must travel to the airport, first. I think we can get a chapter out of that. Chase scene, Speedos only. And Eric must be about ready to reappear. Jack
-
Damn, these guys from Oz. It only just turned the 20th in London a half-hour ago. And out here in the California desert, I'm getting ready for a dinner date: it's still the 19th. Early Bird specials, donchu know? Anyway, Viv, a most Happy Birthday. Jack

Tim Mead finishes the story this weekend. Although it is a part of a trilogy, the stories stand alone. I obviously think they are terrific. http://www.crvboy.org/stories/timmead/jr/c01.html. Jack
