What's that? lol. The value for me too high to cancel it. It rather depends on how you do stuff too.

it is part of Xbox game pass on pc and Xbox. first month is a $1. just saying

@Wayne Gray I think it might be a cache issue. You can try this by clearing your cache, doing a force refresh (ctrl-F5 in windows, typically), or trying it in a different browser. As you saw by my Lorem Ipsum post, direct paste from Word 365 worked fine for me in windows 10 and Firefox.

We haven't set a time frame yet, so this feature is not currently active. But we can set it based on multiple things: Last update, last visit, current status. I will say the numbers will vary based on whether the Author is still active on the site or not. (active is defined as logging into your account) We'll post more about this when we come up with a specific target. This feature is about helping the readers decide what to read. I know some authors post once every 12-18 months. Staying engaged with the site will extend times. no activity on the site and stories will be marked accordingly.

Okay. The game released yesterday. The reviews have pretty much all been positive I waited for the reviews before I bought it. But they were so positive from reviewers that I am very agreeable with, I bit the bullet. the trailer linked above is representative... but not as sharp as you'd get on Xbox One X with HDR and 4k Screen. This is what the Star Wars games should have been all along. And dare I say, the Disney Star Wars Movies? Ewww. It's really too bad EA refuses to make good games like this. This is a fluke folks. They'd rather macro-transaction you to death usually. and.... WOW! On Xbox One X, this thing looks and sounds like the movies. There are some very minor graphics glitches... but, wow! The ship jumping to hyperspace and arriving at the first planet is on par with the movies, graphics detail wise. It was sharp.

So Obsidian, one of the best RPG-centric game studios, released The Outer Worlds a few weeks ago. I've been meaning to make a post about it for awhile. I love the writing and quirky humor in the game. This is pretty much what this studio is known for. I'm enjoying the game when I get those few moments to disappear into it. And it's worth pointing out that if you have Xbox Game Pass Ultimate ($10 per month), this game is included on it for box Xbox and PC. New subscribers can sign up for a $1. talk about value! Anyway, well worth buying it too.

By the way, you can create a Collection (public, of course) of your favorite stories and share it with others by pasting the link into a post.

We've updated Stories again! Story Collections All members will now have the ability to create a list of stories List can be public or private List can be ordered or unordered. The feature also allows for Curated lists of stories to be created by the staff. For example, we can create a "Gay Author's Classics" collection of stories. Or any number of other options. Review link added to Last Chapter of Completed Stories On the last chapter of a story with a status that allows reviews, there is now a link to the review section on the table of contents page. Lock link title from edit on publish for Author Upon publishing a story, the link title will be locked. (link title is usually generated automatically and this reduces confusion when editing stories) Automatic Story Status Update Stories will now be automatically set on hold if an author stops showing up on site for a set period of time and the story has had no updates. Stories will now be automatically set to abandoned if an author stops showing up on site after a set period of time Category Enhancement Story data for entire category displayed under the category name. Similar to series/worlds. Story of the Moment Widget Random story link to further highlight stories on different areas of the site Quality of Life Enhancements For authors, when you visit the series page, your buttons will be "Add Series" and "My Series". Same for worlds and collections. Otherwise, it'll show "add story" and "my stories" like always. For members, "Add Collection" and "My Collections" will appear on most pages stories are listed. "Premium Stories" link was moved to the top of the right-side menu. Premium Stories pays the bills and keeps us open... just saying.

That's a bug, obviously. An upgrade occurred while I was at work and a setting got borked. It's been corrected. You should see the buttons now.

I should have been clear and stated that when it was all done, it should be roughly the same. As for why it is different at the moment, I would hazard to guess that "Story Stats" is the Story, ie the Table of Contents + whatever chapter data has been processed. (and since Jan 2018) The story views stat listed on the story is Table of Contents + each chapter. I'll have to check with the programmer, who is 16 hours ahead of my timezone. He might have been literal and compiled all of the "Story" stats first, which in the system, means the table of contents. And is compiling chapters for individual chapter stats that add the story total views in later. I don't know since the only story of mine that has chapter stats complete is one of the first entered in the system, so the views are way off on virtue of being mostly before Jan 2018. I can say that 7,150,000 total views of 26,700,000 have been processed. There is quite the intensive amount of grinding going on in the background and we're trying not to bog down the site as this stuff is processed. None of this is simple. Nor is trying to explain it to a mixed audience ranging from technical novice to college professor.

A few things... we are counting views as there is no reliable way to count reads. Story views and Story stats should be 'the same' roughly on stories posted after Jan 2018. In a future update, the original views will be rolled into the stats and the number displayed will be stats. This number will be replaced with the number from the Story Statistics after we're done compiling all the stats data: I put the details above, but the short answer is that any story posted before Jan 2018 will have extra views that the reading stats don't count (yet). @Carlos Hazday is absolutely correct on the views versus reads thing. It's a semantic thing as for most people a 'view' and a 'read' are the same. You can spot when it is not by a gross sharp drop off from chapter 1 to 2. (often meaning people sampled chapter 1 and left and never checked out chapter 2) An excellent point! Absolutely agree. Another great observation! They really only tell you trends and if something odd appears. For example, I went to the "My Statistics" link in the "My Stories" menu and then sorted by most views... Turns out my most read story is one of my 'sex scene' writing attempts. Sex sells... who knew? Now, when the chapter information finishes compiling, you can look at a long story like Comicality's New Kid in School, the oldest story on site. Look at how the reading of chapters breaks down... This tells me something about chapter 39 attracts more attention. Authors can use this sort of thing to determine how a chapter goes over and if any one chapter is particularly popular for one reason or another. If you're an analytical type, you can try to figure that out and repeat it. if you're not, that's okay too. Hope that helps
-
That is consistent with the trends we've noticed over the years. Though I would say there is a percentage of people that are members, but not signed into their accounts for various reasons. They should show up as guests... And we can't really track that percentage

The system has gotten all the story level stats built and it is still working on the chapter level. I have written two quick FAQ entries for this for those that are interested in the feature.

The numbers 38, 41, 45 to the left of the story title in the picture above represent the overall story rank in most views. In the example here, the stats are showing Fantasy stories, by most views. So Rich Boy is the Number 1 Fantasy story by views, but number 38 over all. Broadswords is #3 in Fantasy, but #45 over all. IMPORTANT NOTE: Overall rank is a cached value. This means is not updated in real time, so it is entirely possible to be looking at the unfiltered list and have the large number not match the order. It will within a few hours when the value is re-cached.

Reading stats is a new feature that shows story views over time. They can be found under "Reading Stats" in the widget on the side menu on the Stories page. https://gayauthors.org/stories/browse/reading-stats/ Default Stats display: All stories by all site authors shown in descending order by most views first. To Filter Reading Stats: Timeframe allows you to select to select time. NOTE 1 - While you are allowed to set precise dates, in the background, stats are compiled in such a way that what displays is approximately monthly chunks. Meaning, if you set Jan 15 to Feb 15, you will get data for Jan and Feb, approximately. Stats are not intended to be precise down to hours, as that serves no purpose. Note 2 - Timestamped data started collection in Jan 2018. Settings earlier than that date will have no effect. Genre allows you set the Genre(s) of the stories. Tag allows you to set stories with specific tags. Readers allows you to select group to see if there are differences between groups of readers. Default is All members. Sorting allows you to select order of viewing stories. Default is Most Views. Other options include title, date published, etc... The minus sign clears all filters.

October is upon us and it is time for another month of Flashbacks! But first, authors, please make sure you are working on the anthologies due November 15th! (see above) Without further ado, here are the last 5 stories from Fall of 2014: Scars!

@Carlos Hazday Yup, it's there. https://gayauthors.org/author/carlos-hazday/ It's in the gray box under your normal rep, which is under your pride fist.

I've updated my signature, since Worlds and Series can now be directly linked and properly formatted. I'd recommend to authors that have Worlds or Series to use that to share a collection of your works

Hello everyone! It is that time again. The Stories Archive software on Gay Authors has been updated. We've had a whole lot of bug fixes and a couple of new features added. IMPORTANT NOTE: Stat's are Rebuilding for the next few days. You'll know when it's done because not every story will be ranked #1 with 0 views. New Features Site level Story view statistics are now available. We have been collecting timestamped story/chapter views since Jan of 2018. That is just shy of 26,000,000 story/chapter views that have a timestamp associated with them. NOTE: for privacy sticklers, no personal data is collected here. You can now go over to the new Story Stats section and see what people have been reading, set the time frame and the genre and show the list. Story level statistics are now also available. You can click on the story in the site level list and see the details of views by chapter in the time frame you choose. My Stats. Authors will be able to quickly see how their stories are doing with views. This data is broken down into All Members, Members or Guests. Administrators also have the option to view Premium Member group views. (again, no personal information here). This allows you to get an idea of what people are reading, if you want to make sure there is more of that available. (This is exactly what we are doing with Premium Member group views... what do Premium Members like reading? Get more of that.) Series and World link embedding now works properly. That is, if you place a link to your series or your World into the editor, such as your signature, it now properly formats like a story link would. We now have the ability to allow a chapter to be edited without the story being edited. This is important to authors that would like to be able to fix typos in their Anthologies without the system throwing a hairball about editing stories in restricted categories. Stories only reputation is now visible on your author page to just the author and Staff. This will show you how close you are to leaving the moderation queue through promotion. Bug Fixes Story widgets now obey settings for devices. Which is to say, when you view the site on desktop, you'll get more information visible. If you view the site on a mobile device, then we reduce the menus down to the bare minimum to improve the speed Review links in notifications are no longer broken. This was patched onto the site a while back and this is the official fix. Links to your reviews in a notification should work properly. Automatic Link Title should simply add a number to the link title if a story with the same automatically generated link exists. Should this remove the confusion when everyone names their story the same thing and the system previously gave you an error. We can now properly delete chapter comments again. There was a bug preventing us from doing it. Leaderboard function is going to be what it is for now. It's quirky from a programming standpoint and the minor issue we're experiencing is not currently worth the cost of trying to work around it. Goals widget should now be usable on Mobile devices Weird bug where the Promoted Author banner was not showing properly to members/guests has been fixed. Miscellaneous notification bugs fixed. Multi-author approval system for World's and Series should be working properly now, where the author can improve instead of requiring an admin to do so. Story Update activity Stream, is no longer showing unpublished stories. I am working on a FAQ entry for using the story stats. That will be up soon.
