  1. “Kitten?” Artemis gripped the door as the ship shuddered. He felt weird, letting Atharo fly his ship, but they knew how to dock on a larger ship. He didn’t. Elias’ eyes glared out from his den, the neko’s tail flicking. “We’re landing. Atharo wants all of us on the other ship until we get to Oyhaf.” Grumbling quietly, Elias pulled himself out of his nest, sliding down the pole to the ground. “Elias, you know we love you, right?” Artemis asked. His hand fell on the n
  2. Or he knows and doesn't want to lose the chance of a bed for the night. Additionally he is with Jordan while other wolves are changing. Maybe he misheard the mage, maybe she just had her information wrong.
  3. Jordan downed the wolf potion with a swallow and tossed the bottle into the garbage behind the shop. Taking a moment to let the juice settle in his stomach, the werewolf walked through the back door of the shop. “You’re late,” Halor said, pushing past the man. “I’m supposed to be here at two. It’s 1:55.” The front door opened and Jordan hurried out to the main part of the store. Damian stood in front of the counter uncomfortably, his hood over his head as usual. “Hey,” he sai

    The Colonel

For sure the Empire would rather have the Oyhaf shipyards under their control, but the question is would they risk open war for a system right next to one of the founding species of the Alliance? It's a very strategic position, but it is also one the Empire would not be able to reinforce very well if war did break out.

I think he always will, but if he takes thing one day at a time hopefully everything will work out for him.
  6. The room on the other side of the door was a display of organised chaos. Xanar hurried back and forth through the open space, clustering in groups, sitting against the walls. Elias walked through it all, shoulders hunched between Reinard and Artemis. He hated everything about this room, the noise, the commotion, the people in it. It was only Artemis’ firm hand on his shoulder that kept the neko from running. “Don’t worry kitten. You are safe with us,” Artemis said quietly. They ap

Jordan opened his eyes with a yawn, stretching out on his bed. His arm hit the bone off the bed, and the loud clatter of the bone landing on the floor startled the werewolf. He sat up in his bed, a little disoriented. Reaching for his phone, he realized he had taken it with him yesterday. “Fuck…” Thinking for a moment, the man stood up, grabbing a relatively clean set of clothes. He dressed, grabbing his laundry basket. Checking to make sure the straps he had tied to the basket we
  8. Elias curled up around Reinard, the Faro sleeping in his fox form. The neko’s hand ran down the fox’s body, stroking the coarse hair calmly. He could do this forever and be happy. A knock at the door reminded Elias that he really couldn’t do this forever. “We’re passing through the portal in five minutes,” Artemis called through the door. The tiger had to have heard Reinard earlier. Was he okay with it? Or would he try to kick the fox off the ship? Elias stood up and Reinard’

Thanks. I enjoyed writing the scene.

Thank you. That means a lot
  11. Elias tapped on Reinard’s door six hours into their journey. He was worried about the Faro. Reinard hadn’t left the room and the neko thought something might have happened, though what could have happened, he couldn’t say. “Come in…” Reinard’s muffled voice called. The door hissed open and the neko squeezed into the room, standing between the bed and the desk. Reinard was curled up on the bed, buried in his blanket. “Does Artemis need me?” the fox asked. Elias shook his head.
  12. The wolf closed the shop door, making sure it was locked before heading around the back of the store. The fall evening still held some light to it, and Jordan grumbled. He couldn’t wait for the middle of winter when he would be able to transform in darkness, where it would be hard to tell who he was. Werewolves had been around for centuries, coming into the public eye when King Paelius and his consort had decreed they were no longer to be hunted but embraced instead. Opinion of the wolves ha
  13. There are some people who find it next to impossible to mess up on purpose. Artemis is one of them. Besides, he could have messed up, but it likely would not have been as obvious as Elias.
  14. Reinard gripped his necklace in his hand as he approached the ship. The Science Fleet. He didn’t know if the designation was good or bad. Both Artemis and Elias were in the Exploration fleet. Maybe they wouldn’t need him on the ship. Pressing his hand against the ship’s lock, Reinard walked up the ramp, lost in thought. But not too lost to see Artemis laying in the hall. “Artemis?! Are you okay?!” The Faro fell next to the tiger, checking for a pulse. Artemis was alive, barely.
  15. Jordan is a reluctant werewolf in a world that celebrates monsters. Stuck with a curse that can never be lifted, his life seems like it will never improve. Until he finds a young man on the streets in need of his help. Can this monster help a stranger in his time of need?
  16. Jordan bit into a burger hungrily. He had been out all night and would have a repeat tonight. “I see you’re on your period.” A young elf sat across from the man, a playful smile on her face. “Shut up Arisa,” Jordan muttered, taking another bite. Arisa smirked, reaching to grab a fry from Jordan’s platter. A sudden growl stopped her in her tracks, and she held up her hands. “Okay, okay, I get it,” she said. “I was wondering where you had gone off to last night.” “It hit ar

    Saying Goodbye

The AI responds to verbal commands. If Artemis can't speak, he can't call for help.
  18. The ship touched down with a thump and Reinard let go of the chair. No one moved for a moment, everyone lost in their own thoughts. If the time remained frozen, the Faro wouldn’t have to deal with what came next. With a sigh, Artemis stood up, breaking the moment. “It’s midday right now,” he said. “Reinard, we need to get you a translator. And Elias needs a pair of glasses. I’ve been putting that off for far too long.” Reinard knew what the tiger was doing. If they didn’t get movi
  19. The tiger stood before General Aro, heart pounding loudly in his chest. “You lost five Faro and a tanker in transit. To Dalmar pirates. And you have no idea why Dalmar pirates would be working to deny their planet water.” “General, I believe they were paid to attack us. Someone wants the Faro and the Dalmar to go to war again.” “Well they won’t be attacking anyone ever again,” the Xanar said. “Thanks to your burst, we were able to pinpoint their location and destroy the ship in under
  20. The man wandered through the forest, an invisible sensor floating over his shoulder. The spy was around here somewhere, just waiting to get the jump on him. He wouldn’t, not this time. Mythal heard a bush rustle, and his sword appeared in his hand. An elf dropped from a tree behind him, layers of gambeson covering most of his body. A spear materialized in his grip, and the elf rushed at Mythal. The human spun, sliding his arm around the spear and wrenching it from the elf’s grasp. “Y
  21. “Captain Artemis!” Artemis turned his head, spotting a cream Faro hurrying toward him. The tiger let out a sigh. He already had to spend a day away from Elias to check on their ship. With another interruption, he might have to spend another night in port. The Faro saluted crisply, his striped black bracer showing his rank of private. “Fleet Command requests your presence, urgent.” “Fleet Command?” Artemis frowned. It was strange for him to be singled out. He was IEFL, not mil

Elias walked through the flowers behind Reinard’s house, happy to not be worrying for once. They were beautiful, though alien, purples mixed with oranges, a blue bulb appearing here and there. The air on the planet was cool, and Artemis had bought him a light coat from the port. He wore it now, trying to find a patch of sunlight to relax in. Not an easy task with the clouds that constantly passed over the sun. It had taken the neko a few days to get comfortable around the house. The bu
  23. “A new ship…?” Artemis echoed weakly. He leaned back in his chair, head spinning. This was not the reward he had been expecting. Not that he had been expecting any reward at all. “Yes. I want to make sure my kit is safe out in space,” Ceirel smiled. “This is…. This….” “This is a great gift Mara,” Reinard cut in, smiling. “Thank you.” “You told Reinard we needed a new ship,” Elias hiccoughed. Artemis felt the neko’s hand brush his thigh and his tail flicked uneasily.

    Prologue

I enjoyed this story on nifty and I am looking forward to rereading it.
  25. Elias flattened himself against a branch as a howl pierced the silence of the forest. They were coming for him; they had his scent. “Elias.” Looking up, the neko saw Artemis sitting perfectly balanced on the branch. Letting out a cry, he threw himself at the tiger, his arms wrapping around Artemis. “You’re okay. They can’t hurt you,” the tiger whispered, stroking his hair, calming him. “They aren’t real.” “Y-you’re real…?” Artemis chuckled quietly. “You’re asleep ki
