  1. Self-awareness is the key. I'm doing my seasonal depression thing. Fortunately, I have a hiking companion who makes me stop whining and get out of the house for the occasional day-hike. One is planned for tomorrow, so hopefully my attitude will improve at least temporarily.
  2. It's about 40 F here mid-morning with the traditional howling east wind - every bit of the 22 mph gusting to 34 on the forecast. It was difficult to get out of bed. I talked myself into my three-mile walk in this stuff yesterday by treating myself to soup-and-a-half-sandwich at my favorite eatery at the end. Since they're closed today, I'll have to devise some other motivation - or just skip it. I don't do January well.

    Chapter 30

Quite excellent again, of course. Anxiously awaiting the next five re-written chapters
  4. "Conventional" and "artistic" are incompatible concepts. "Conventional" stifles creativity. Do what suits your purpose and talents, and go for it.
  5. Violates the "5% armor and 95% naked" rule.
  6. I'm glad I'm not the only one complaining about that. I was given a lengthy PM lecture about having set my chapter to post before I set the story to post when, in fact, I had accepted the default (strangely several hours in the future) for both. My suggestion that it might be a programming problem fell on deaf ears. Just another Defective End User, of course.
  7. Well, yes, there is that first experience. Mine was screwdrivers. I couldn't face orange juice for months, and I don't drink hard alcohol to this day
  8. That's what I thought of too. Ice wine can be very good if you're into sweet stuff.
  9. Slowly sinking even lower ...
  10. A new low point in wine. The ultimate "cheerleader beer". 🤢
  11. Damn! The ones on my calendar must be fakes
  12. After a certain age, malingering is replaced by simulated senility, much harder to detect.

    Chapter 28

An enjoyable chapter. The suspense builds. I particularly enjoyed the lengthy barbecue conversation, both for content and how smoothly you managed a conversation with that many individuals.

    A New Day

Your writing, as always, is excellent, and would deserve a "love". The gun issue and how you were being used beyond credibility gets the "angry" response. The gun issue has come up before, so I don't need to expound further on it.

    Daddy Dearest

I admire you for trying; I would not have. It was another validation of your mother's belief in your strength. Two things come to mind after reading this far. I hope Darlene left the bastard. I also hope you've reconnected with your brother.

    One Who Saw Me

A heart or a tear? I'll go for the heart for the inspiration instead of the tear for the sadness; the neutral choice isn't an option. People like Isabella are to be cherished forever. You pack a lot into a simple tale, just like your poetry.
  17. Humor removed, since humor seems to be out of style today.
  18. Also up at 7:00 for a New Year's Day hike in what looks to be some excellent but cold weather. Happy New Year to everyone. ✨🎉
  19. That "wow" was for the "moderation queue" part. I sympathize. It gets old.
  20. Along this line, I was having a conversation last night with some friends about Krispy Kremes. Specifically, how ironic it is that they are used so often as fundraisers by high school cheerleaders and athletes. Sure.
  21. Another of those Appalachian sayings were talking about elsewhere?
  22. I consider myself to be very militant. I got eight because, as with others above, it depends on usage. I felt the scope of the questions was limited. There were no punctuation questions, for example.
  23. Thorn has the issue identified, in part. It's not only the rules, it's my inclination to quickly become rabid. As I mentioned to Mike on the side, I am so with tim on this subject that I cry when I think about it. I couldn't read the article without paying money, but I know what it covers. I have severed relationships with numerous relatives, friends, businesses, and organizations over it. I am so strongly concerned about gun violence, especially in schools, that If I had joined the conversation, I would have been kicked off GA for sure. I've said this much to make myself clear, but like tim, I need a break. I'll be back another day. Thanks for your understanding.
  24. The First Amendment has nothing to do with it. I'm not sure whether you deliberately chose to misunderstand me or not, but with that fine absurdity, I'll be leaving the DiC.
