The weather here way out west, on the other hand, is unusually balmy. With the current temperature (mid-day) at 56 F, and similar temps in the forecast through the weekend, it's more like March than January. I'm going to take advantage of it this weekend and do some fence repairs. The several days of wind last week were not kind to me. -

Sounds like a plan. Have a good six-pack and hopefully some good sleep. -
The "sad" is for the sadness of the story only. The writing deserves a "love", as always.

I think it is excellent. I particularly like how the "sand shifts away dreams...", an excellent metaphor. -

Do it. WolfM gave me this link, but also the warning that it is inaccurate. It seemed to think that "tracked" was two syllables, which is not so. I suggest counting yourself, per MacGreg's provided count. https://syllablecounter.net/count -
I like both, but especially the second. It inspires me to get a bird feeder, as there is always a flock of them hanging around in the blackberry thicket in winter.

I guess that's a good news/bad news thing, but the good news seems to outweigh the bad. I hope you feel better soon. -
Totally overcast here, of course, what else. So I'll settle for your excellent poem instead.

Well, wonder of wonders, I seem to have escaped the confines of the dreaded Moderation Queue. My Tanka poetry posting was immediately visible. -
gender & sexuality Erasure
Backwoods Boy commented on Thorn Wilde's blog entry in The Fantastic Mr. Wilde
Since arriving on this site a few months ago, I've encountered lifestyles that are new to me and gender issues I don't understand. That doesn't make them any less meritorious or real. As others have said other ways, it's the individual that counts. Why be normal when you can be yourself? Thanks for your eloquence, and for being you. A song of my era by Joe South kept going through my mind as I read your blog: If I could be you, and you could be me for just one hour If we could find a way to get inside each other's mind, If you could see you through my eyes instead of your ego I believe you'd be surprised to see that you'd been blind, ... Hey, before you abuse, criticize and accuse, walk a mile in my shoes.- 20 comments

This is an excellently-crafted story about homelessness and the silent compassionate heroes who do what they can to help. The author has a gift for character and setting detail that brings colorful life to the tale. The conversation and interactions produce a reality that connects the reader closely to each very-unique character. One exits the adventure with as much hope for the future as Ian and Kevin have found.

Congratulations on your second story. You have a gift for detail that brings the characters and setting to life. Keep up the good work.

Well, I don't have to wait until next Saturday morning, the advantage of coming late to the party. But I can't wait to find out what the witch-spelled-with-a-b is up to now. He repentance is ... well ... slightly unbelievable to my skeptical mind. Thanks for a great story.

It sounds like a great method of identifying what you need to know, teaching it, and then reinforcing it. I'll be curious about your reaction to the methodology after you've completed the class. Your current 4.0 average tells why you spend all day on it - you want to do it right. The best of luck with the journey, and the results. -

If you modified that slightly, you could turn it into a Tanka 🤪 -

Thanks for that enlightenment. It's so often painted as perfection to us down below here. -
Very nicely done. I would say you have Tanka well under control.

What Kitt said. Do tell your doctor anything even remotely pertinent. I had a brother-in-law who deliberately kept things from his doctor that he thought would be embarrassing. As he got older, my sister would accompany him to make sure that the doctor didn't get BS and she wouldn't get similar BS when he returned home. Maybe that's why I'm still around and he isn't. -

Haven't tossed any yet, but number two and three are slow in coming. It's an odd rhythm to be sure - I would hate to put any of it to music - but I'm finding it interesting. -

Nice. Love song, indeed. The last three lines make me think good old "Sol" was struggling a bit in the relationship. -

The HaHa is in response to the contradictory nature of the Song of Solomon in general. To be a little bit cynical, certain parts would have been borderline porn not too many years ago, and that's without falling back on my favorite Tom Lehrer quote. Perhaps that explains why that part of the Bible wasn't emphasized too strongly in Sunday School. Maybe singing it in Latin tips the scales to the religious side. I hope you'll report back how the adjudicators see it. -

I've got one set counted. Is there an expectation on the five? I might manage one a day. And my hatred of winter is showing up in the results.
