  12. My traditions My brother and I always celebrate on Christmas eve. We have the big meal then, usually a ham but sometimes ham and Turkey depending on who is there. Its usually me, my kids, our mom and my brother and his wife only. Sometimes a cousin joins. Last night my SILs mom and 2 brothers came. We always have a cheese and salami tray and have mini donuts and eggnog. The donuts and bacon are from 2003, when it was just me and my brother and my oldest boy who was a toddler. Matt and I both worked all day on Christmas eve and I went to his house after I picked up my son from the sitter. As a young bachelor, he didn't keep groceries in the house. We both were too young and inexperienced to realize everything was closed. So for dinner we bought eggnog, donuts and bacon from a gas station and had that for Christmas dinner. Every year since we include the same brand of packaged donuts and eggnog for the memory. We do the presents on Christmas eve, though I have my kids open the big gifts and stocking on Christmas morning. Christmas day we always have chinese food. Sometimes in past years a movie too, but the 3 year old isn't a good movie companion yet. My tree typically goes up right after thanksgiving. And I listen to Christmas music from November 1 onwards lol
