  1. Hi Xan! You do realise that certain members of this forum are going to have a field day over your comment about Dennis having 4 partners, don't you?
  2. I go away for a few hours and come back to find so many posts on this forum that I just don't have the time (or the energy) to try to read all the dross wonderful stuff that I may have missed. I'm sure Gary's already told you about it but, just in case he didn't (or just in case he did, but you missed it in the flurry of posts) you should think about heading over to read his latest poem. I don't think you'll be disappointed. https://gayauthors.org/story/headstall/cozy-contemplations/33
  3. Beautifully expressed sentiments, Gary!
  4. Well Chapter 5 of The Charmed Life of Danny Murphy has been uploaded. But it seems I still haven't accumulated enough Brownie Points on GA yet for it to appear immediately, so it's stuck in the Moderation Queue. Hopefully it will actually go live in the next 24 hours. https://gayauthors.org/story/marty/the-charmed-life-of-danny-murphy-working-title/ Gonna be busy for the next few hours. Got to write up the minutes for a meeting I attended a few days ago. Chat yous all later.
  5. Sleep well, B!
  6. And how's the shoulder? It's a bit of a wet day here. Heavy rain earlier, bit dry but completely cloudy at the moment. 18°C (64.4°F) at the moment (5:30pm), although the current forecast is predicting a return to blue skies and maybe temps as high as the mid-twenties by the weekend.
  7. Gary! Hope your day's going well.
  8. I cheated slightly. Although I knew what meant (I taught second level in England for 15+ years), I simply Googled it and most of what wrote I simply copied and pasted from a wikipedia article (just to save me time typing)
  9. Hey, duggie.
  10. Well, in the UK (except Scotland, apparently) GCSE stands for General Certificate of Secondary Education. It is taken at around 16 years of age. GCSEs were introduced in 1988 to establish a national qualification for those who decided to leave school at 16, without pursuing further academic study towards qualifications such as A-Levels (Advanced Levels) or university degrees. They replaced the former CSE (Certificate of Secondary Education) and O-Level (Ordinary Level) qualifications, uniting the two qualifications to allow access to the full range of grades for more students.
  11. <Pops head round door and sees there's been 16 pages of comments since my last visit less than 36hours ago> Hi gang! Sorry I've been MIA. Been a busy couple of days. Can't even stay at the moment, and may not be about much for the next days or so. Hope everyone's well, and I'll try to catch up with yous all when things get a little less hectic around here. Be good to each other, now.
  12. I suppose I should think about filling in the About Me section on my own profile one of these days...
  13. Good afternoon, bignick. And your return marked the first post on page 1,000 of this forum! Yay!
  14. A bit confused here.... Just asking what, Bucket?
  15. Long time since I flew with Aer Lingus. Tend to use Ryanair these days for flights within Europe. Longer flights it would depend on what carriers were available. Warning: Rude joke in spoiler tags:
  16. Sometimes I can see distinct advantages to living in Ireland...
  17. In that article, I think they were talking about the open area in the front of the offices of the firms that sell new cars. As George Bernard Shaw is reported to have said: "The English and the Americans are two peoples divided by a common language."
  18. I'm not sure if it's still the case (it probably is) but, when I was learning to drive in the UK back in 1975, if you took your test in a car with automatic transmission, you only got a licence to drive that type of car. But if you took it i a manual transmission, your licence was for either. Makes sense in a way. Although, never actually having driven an automatic, I'd say I'd have to be very careful to begin with if ever I did drive one.
  19. Similar here, Xan. Although no rain expected, just possibly a couple of showers . And your temperature probably well exceeds our 16°C (61°F)
  20. According to this report the percentage of automatic cars on the roads of Ireland during now stands at 30%. https://www.irishexaminer.com/breakingnews/motoring/motoringnews/30-of-all-new-cars-on-irish-roads-are-now-automatics-919993.html
  21. It's the opposite over here, although I think there's been an increase in automatics in recent years. Manual transmission cars used to be much more fuel efficient. If I remember correctly, they were claimed to be up to 10% more efficient. But I have read that modern automatic gearboxes are much more fuel efficient than they used to be. I'm not sure whether it's still true, but automatics used to be much more expensive to purchase over here. But that may only have been due to the fact that they were not as common.
  22. I think our friends from across the pond tend to refer it as a shift stick, clo. But, yes, I love my manual transmission. Wouldn't feel as though I was so much in control if I ever had an automatic transmission. (Why am I now expecting Bob to try to turn what I have just said into something I didn't say? )
  23. Oh, look at the page number! All the nines... (We'll soon be into four figures)
