  1. Freda? (Or maybe Val's been fooling us all along and is really a Fred... )
  2. Val's real name is probably more like Agatha... Or maybe even...
  3. Sleep well, bro!
  4. Greetings, Mr B! It was sometime towards the end of last year that I last had a breakfast like that. I normally only order one when I meet friends for breakfast, or am staying in a hotel. Can't do either of those just at the moment, due to lockdown. Had I managed to get to England for Christmas, my sister would have prepared at least one big breakfast whilst myself and her now grown children were there.
  5. I had guessed that. Not sure if your Twitter handle might be closer to your real name.... Have a great day, anyway, ma chère fée.
  6. I believe it's also someone's birthday... (I couldn't find one that just said "Happy birthday, clo" )
  7. Happy IWD, everybody!
  8. Greetings, young Drew!
  9. I remember ordering "Quatre petits-déjeuners, s'il vous plaît" ('Four breakfasts, please') in a small café in Cherbourg after myself and three friends had got the ferry across to France about 20 years back. None of my companions had ever visited France before, and didn't really understand the culture or even speak any French. A few minutes later four plates with croissants, and four cups of strong black coffee were placed in front of us. I was leisurely enjoying my breakfast, when one of my friends asked "When's the breakfast coming?" Looking across the table I saw that they had all already eaten their croissants. "You've just eaten breakfast," I replied. "What! Where's the sausages? Where's the eggs? Where's the rashers? That wasn't breakfast!!" "Oh, but it was," I replied. "Welcome to France." They were expecting something like this:
  10. I've just popped a beef casserole in the oven for dinner. There's probably enough for two meals. Apart from the mushrooms, and some of the herbs, all the vegetables are from my own garden.
  11. For those of you that might not have got the September reference in my previous post:
  12. Happy Sunday to you, as well, Gary. A bit milder here today, but not much sun. There was a bit of slight drizzle a while back. I think the dry spell may be coming to an end. Hopefully it won't rain now until September.
  13. Greetings, young Albert!
  14. Interesting... It seems as though modern Danish is the only language to end his name with the letter "d"... Wikipedia gives the following: Cnut the Great (/kəˈnjuːt/; Old English: Cnut cyning; Old Norse: Knútr inn ríki, (died 12 November 1035), also known as Canute, was King of Denmark, England and Norway, often referred to together as the North Sea Empire during his rule. And includes the following footnote: Modern languages: Danish: Knud den Store or Knud II, Norwegian: Knut den mektige, Swedish: Knut den Store. Source: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cnut_the_Great
  15. I'm going to bake a piece of halibut to serve with sautee broccoli rabe and mixed grains. I steamed and mashed some potato, carrot and swede (rutabaga), then put it in a casserole dish, grated cheddar cheese on top, and baked it in the oven for 20 minutes. Followed it with a slice of banana loaf.
  16. And you, bro! (Although there's only about 20 minutes of it left here.)
  17. They look better in the photo than in real life. They're getting threadbare in places, and have suffered water damage under the upstairs landing windows. And they're only made of some sort of synthetic material (nylon, I suspect), not pure wool.
  18. Very belated greeting back at you, young Albert! (Sorry for the delay. Was visiting with my social bubble. )
  19. And how is it pronounced? I ask because I know that in Dutch a word that ends in "d" is usually pronounced as though it ends with a "t". For example, the Dutch word hond (hound, or dog) is pronounced hont.
  20. That's like trying to do a King Canute(aka: King Cnut), and telling the tide to stop advancing up the beach.
  21. Without stripping it all down to the bare wood (which I'm not inclined to attempt), I think it is red pine. My plan is to just sand it smooth and apply a coat or two of clear varnish. Carpets? Not really. Although I may salvage some of it from the upstairs landing, to replace the bit of stair carpet that's missing from the bottom four steps (you might be able to see from the photograph that there's only underlay at the bottom of the stairs).

  23. There probably will be. But I think the camera club will delay the start of the next one until we can meet in person again, instead of over Zoom.
  24. Black & White - Week 49... Just three weeks more to go.
