Ash isn’t a genius by any stretch, but he recognizes care and effort spent on him. And he saw that in Terry and wanted to return it. I think Terry’s reaction proves how impactful that little gesture from them was. Taggert has shared some with Ash. And he seems better off for it, too. It’s a slow process, but that’s the only way this makes sense. You’ll see what I mean soon. And yes. “Only” 200,000 acres. Can you even call that a ranch? 🙄 Tha is for reading and commenting. More coming soon.

You were correct. I was ordered to rest, so rest I did. I’m still not 100%, but I’m feeling a lot better. I’m glad you enjoyed the chapter, and that it answered some of the questions surrounding Taggert. There’s more to know, but this is a good start. And I like how the culture of the ranch is shining through. They behave like a family, and that can be really nice. Thanks for reading and commenting. I appreciate it.

We get to see a bit more of the group dynamic in the next chapter. I’m excited for that. But yeah, baby steps when it comes to Taggert trusting and opening up. He’s doing it, but it’s coming slowly. And when you know the whole story, hopefully it’ll make sense as to why. Thanks for reading and commenting. See you back here soon!

There is a reason. Yes. Mental, physical, or both. There’s a reason. Thanks for reading and commenting. More to come.

Well, we know Taggert was sent to school by granddad. And we know granddad is gone now. How long, that’s still a mystery. But yes - someone sent him running. Someone with enough power to call the shots for the Yoder family. We’ll have to see where this info leads. And we will. Thanks for reading and commenting. More to come.

If you’ll notice, I’ve not said the word “gay” once. And it never comes up at all. Not in the whole story. There’s a great scene in the next chapter. Where the unspoken acceptance is made overtly known. Where there’s a simple, direct conversation about it. I’m looking forward to that. Thanks for reading and commenting. I appreciate it.

The lunch scene was a nice little distraction, I think. And it shows off the ranch’s culture, too. And that was the point of it. Yep. Ash learns a bit more about Tag from both James and Taggert himself. Though, we’ve more to go. Thanks for reading and commenting. I’m glad you enjoyed it.

All I’ll say is - let’s find out if that bet would pay off or not. And we will! 🙂

Thanks! I’m on the way. Glad you enjoyed it. Thanks for reading and commenting. There’s more coming.

Taggert is slowly trusting Ash. The guy has been pretty consistently worth trusting, and very patient. It’d be hard not to trust him. But yes, Ash did push a little. And it worked out ok. Just because a business has gay employees doesn’t mean everyone is ok with them. So maybe that’s the reason or maybe it’s not. Time will tell. 🕰️ As for Taggert’s grandfather, James spoke about him in the past tense earlier in the conversation he had with Ash. So it sounds like he’s gone. Lol. And yes. Hung the moon. Shooting the moon would be quite the trick, but that’s not what James said. 😝 Thanks for reading and commenting. More to come.

Ash really is a nice, patient guy. And yeah, he doesn’t have a lot of experience with sex. He’s sure willing to learn, though. 😝Both James and Taggert are observant, and that pays off. I wondered about the birthday scene and if I should include it. But it shows something about the ranch as a whole. It proves what kind of place it is. So I think it works. 🙂 Yep. You’re right about the pace. And a few things are about to happen in rapid succession (relative to what has come before). Hopefully I get the balance right and it doesn’t suddenly feel like too much. But we’ll see. Thanks for the comment and for the read. More to come.

Thank you. I’m getting there. 💚

Damn. My dastardly plot has failed. Oh well. Perhaps I’ll get you this… Wednesday when the next chapter posts? And yep. We know a lot more about mister Taggert. Not all of it, but more is coming. And we’ll have to see if there’s just one piece of the puzzle left. 🧩 And yes. Cooked up. That was quite clever. Thank you for explaining it - that makes jokes so much better. 😳 (lol) You survived the MIL. Nice job. Sometimes that’s all we can do. Survive and avoid prison. So congratulations there. Thanks for reading and commenting. There’s more coming!

Looks like you made it here first after all. Well done! 😀 We did find out a little bit more when it comes to Tag, didn’t we? More important, some of that came from Tag himself. You’re right - it’s not everything, but more is coming. You're right again. There was plenty of cornmeal. That little plotter Cara hid it! Can’t trust anybody, it seems. Yes, back to five days. That means I’ll see you on Tuesday. Thanks for the comment and for reading. 🙂

I'm enjoying all of the comments a lot. I'll reply to them, but I'm currently under orders to stay in bed, and it'd be maddening to reply to everybody on my phone. Thanks for making my day a bit better.

Chapter 10: Tag By the end of the next day, everyone smelled like mud, sweat, grass, and horses again. Which, Ash figured, meant the ranch was recovering. The fences along 1B were holding better now. Temporary patches were slowly becoming proper repairs. The cattle they’d moved back through the gate had settled. Even the horses seemed calmer by evening, though Missy's head came up anytime she heard Taggert's voice. But, so did Ash's. So he couldn't blame her. Dinner had

OMG. "Some things are worth barking about." I just noticed the tag-line for that video tim posted. LOL

Oh, it was very apparent that Bert reacted to Taggert's name. That particular cat was already out of the bag, and he knew it. Everyone present also knew Branford was the one who did the hiring. More will come related to this... soonish. Just keep an eye out for it. Thanks for reading and for the comments. Friday is when our next chapter lands.

Bert tries to be a decent guy. But yeah, his moment with Taggert threw the man a bit. We'll have to see how much it affected Taggert down the line. Ash and Taggert do make a bit more progress. Even in spite of Bert surprising Taggert with his last name. Bert knows his cowboys. And Ash has been around a long time, so he knows Ash well. I liked that exchange between him, Ash, and Branford. You can almost hear it beneath the dialogue. "You talk about me?" "Yeah. Maybe." LOL Thanks for reading and commenting. More is on the way.

It's a lot of money. But Bert's right - time is money, and insurance takes time to make payouts for damages. The actions of his guys and Cara mean a lot less is needed from the insurance company. So to him, it's a worthwhile way to say "thank you" and to encourage such work in the future. It also helps us get a sense of who Bert is. He doesn't throw money away, but he will spend it when it serves the ranch. And when it's the right thing. Thanks for the nice comment. There's more to come. And it will land on the 3rd.

Ahh... diving straight into the meat of it. You picked a hell of a quote. And Bert absolutely knows Zane and the Yoder family. He had probably met Taggert at some point, but that may have been a few years back. And Taggert is at the age where, even 5 years ago, he looked very different (he's 23 now). So... Bert's piecing it together on the fly. What does it all mean? Well... let's find out, a chapter at a time. Thanks for reading and commenting. I appreciate it.

Cute. LOL. And yes. Ash seems fixated on the guy he is attracted to's slow acceptance of closeness. Who'd have thought? 😛 I'm very sorry about my inconvenient posting schedule, ma'am. I'll try to do better. Though, tossing monkey wrenches is kind of a specialty of mine. 🙉🔧

It's ranching, but it gets us to the same place. And at that level, it's a very small world. These owners all know the others, or they know of them. They also know the up-and-coming folks groomed to take over the business, too. So... Bert knows of Taggert. It's an uncommon name, and once he laid eyes on Taggert, he could see the resemblance to Zane. But yes. Taggert has showed up to Nasser Ranch knowing a lot. He has proven himself an asset right away. So... why would another ranch toss him aside? We'll find out. Thanks for reading and commenting.
-
It's a good theory. We'll have to see if you're right. Wouldn't that be spicy, eh? Caught "seducing" a poor defenseless ranch hand and exiled as a result? That could be a good boot out the door. We don't know much about this "Zane" character, but maybe he's the sort to do such a thing. I guess we'll see. Thanks for reading and commenting. More to come on Friday.

Thanks for reading and commenting on the chapter! I think, as you do, that this chapter has revealed quite a bit about Taggert's situation. We know he left another ranch. We know he "belonged" to that ranch. But we still don't know why he left. An interesting place to be. But Ash and Taggert continue their dance, even in spite of Bert surprising Taggert with his last name. We'll have to see how that develops. More to come.
