    Aftermath

In 'Dragonflight' it's mentioned that canines are used to turn the spits in the kitchen at Ruatha Hold. Lessa uses her powers to slow one and speed the other so the meat ends up burned for Fax's feast. I believe the only cats are the big cats in the south bioengineered by Ted Tubberman.

    Aftermath

I'm not entirely sure if there are. The colonists brought a lot of earth animals and plants with them, but not all of them survived. Eggs are mentioned as a food, but they might be wherry eggs.

    Aftermath

Some people just have to know all the gruesome details. Even F'lar's timetables aren't totally accurate. Jevikel has also made a mistake in thinking that Thread will fall over Pinnacle Hold and Benden Weyr on the same day.

    Aftermath

Hopefully he'll realise that protecting the barns isn't much use if all of his workers perish! It will take a while to repair the barns and the Hold to a Threadproof state. Not only will Vikkel need to fork out marks for the materials, but they will also need transporting up to Pinnacle and given that travelling has now become trickier, that might take a while as well.

    Aftermath

Kadin just wants to be able to forget it. I thought it appropriate Sarrando stepped in to put a stop to it. Yes, he's a bit of a bully, but he still has some sensitivity when people just want to find out the grim details of what happened to his little brother.

How very true. Berrand was trying to do his job and protect the herds, unaware of the danger he was putting himself in. Even if Kadin hadn't been injured, he'd have been far more sensible, having learned all his Teaching Ballads.

    Aftermath

Jevikel had never felt so useless. Thankfully, his leg wasn’t broken, although the bruising hurt badly enough. Merida had strapped up his knee and instructed him to keep his weight off it for a couple of days. They had lost six beasts in total; four of them eaten by Thread and another two so badly injured in the panic to escape they had to be slaughtered. Almost all of the supplies stored in both the main barn and the extension were ruined. What Thread hadn’t got when it ate through the roo

    Three of Wands

That's the sort of thing that happens in cinemas a lot. People love to speculate about relationships and such. At one cinema where I worked, one of the female managers was off sick for a few days and someone started the rumour she was pregnant (she wasn't). By the time she got back to work, there was all sorts of speculation about who might be the father, too.

Animals are often more sensitive to these things. In the old Victorian house where I grew up, the cats would sometimes track something invisible across the room and follow it up the stairs. Very spooky.

There are plenty of connections to be found, but also a few red herrings...

It's amazing how some old tech keeps going.

Is the ghost appearing more frequently because it's near to the time of year or because it now has someone to communicate with?

I still have an old Nokia in my writing desk and it still charges up! They will be arranging the seance soon.
  16. What I’d seen in the stalls had shaken me. It was a definite progression of events and not one that I’d expected. To be honest, I’d taken George’s stories of a ghostly figure having been seen as another of those cinema rumours that become exaggerated and elaborated in each telling. Much like the current one concerning Dan’s weekend away. All of the expectation I’d had earlier drained away, to be replaced by something very different; a sort of sick fear. Because I had been the catalyst, it h
  17. Tomorrow I'm off on a week's writing course. I'm really excited about it. There's nothing like immersing yourself in a writing environment and talking with other people who are on the same wavelength. Getting out of the usual routine is also inspiring and visiting a new place always gives me lots of ideas. For anyone who is following my stories 'To the Weyr' and 'Hidden Secrets' don't worry - they will be updated on Monday and Thursday as usual, although I may be slower replying to comments as apparently the wifi isn't great there. Over the next five days, I'm hoping to learn some new techniques there and maybe share some in this blog.
  18. Thankfully it wasn't exactly bad news, just that the treatment I was on had stopped working. I started on the new medication two weeks ago and so far there don't seem to be any really nasty side effects. In fact, it doesn't mess up my sense of taste like the last one, so that's a bonus. Another scan in two months will confirm whether this one is keeping the nasties at bay.
  19. I've recently finished reading all the books (they were on Kindle Unlimited) and found them very compulsive reading, with the mysteries and all the detail about the 1980s.

    Plotting

That's really useful. I've used the postcard method before when plotting as I like to have everything laid out and visible. I also use a notebook with unlined pages when plotting out chapters, using different colour pens for the various characters and events that are going to happen.

Faced with a majority who were taking the threat seriously, he was starting to seem like the stupid one.

    Dragonriders

In 'Dragonflight' it wasn't until after the first Threadfall that all the Lord Holders began panicking and demanding the Weyr do something about it. I've always loved the scene where Masterharper Robinton berates them for all the Turns they've neglected the Weyr and refused to believe Thread would return.
  23. Mawgrim

    Threadfall

He'd have done everything in his power, plus he had Berrand to help. They'd also have had a warning from the sweep riders, although that would be fairly close to Fall.
  24. Mawgrim

    Threadfall

Jevikel realised what was happening before the others but Vikkel's going to have a hard time even admitting he was at fault, so you can be sure he won't be thanking anyone. It's not in his nature.

    Threadfall

They'd have had some warning and may have been able to get some of the animals under cover in caves. Keeping them there is another matter… Dragons would still be fighting Thread over the pasture, but they generally stop over rocky areas or scree where Thread can’t find any organic matter. If any of the herdbeasts had wandered into those areas they'd be very unlikely to survive.
