  1. ‘So, they’ve found out about you. Same as what happened to me.’ Jack spoke with the local accent. He looked to be around thirty, the age he must have been when he died. If you ignored the unflattering seventies haircut and moustache, he wasn’t bad looking. ‘It’s different these days.’ I realised I was dreaming. We were in box three, but it wasn’t quite the same. The platter was a Philips rather than the Christies we used now. So we were back in the past again. ‘Does Jenny know? She’ll
  2. That's very true. Vikkel will probably disown Jevikel now, but I doubt he'd care about that. He's off to a better life.
  3. I did that with 'Hidden Secrets'. The plot was too complex to write 'on the fly' as I usually do with my 'Dragonrider' stories.
  4. I started off by looking at the most recommended stories and reading those. if lots of people have recommended a story, it can't be a bad thing! It also encouraged me to read other genres than I might have searched for.
  5. That's definitely enticed me to read on once you are ready to publish.
  6. The time line can be a bit confusing, so hopefully this will clear it up for you. The boys missed Ramoth's first Hatching, which happened about a month before Thread began to fall. Ramoth mated a second time just after Prideth, early in the summer. Gold dragon's gestation is around four and a half months - three months for the eggs to incubate in the dragon's belly, then around five weeks for them to harden on the sands before Hatching. Ramoth's next clutch will hatch around Ninth month. This means it's possible for a gold dragon to lay two clutches a Turn, not all of which will contain a gold egg. Ramoth certainly lays more gold eggs than most as by the start of 'Dragonquest' at least three queen riders are mentioned, including Brekke. Relating all this to 'Gone Away, Gone Ahead', we know D'gar is Wingleader by the time the boys get to Benden and H'rek is back from Southern Weyr.
  7. Thank you! I’m really enjoying writing this story and am looking forward to describing the Weyr as seen by folk who are totally new to it.
  8. It's a long, dangerous journey, even without the possibility of pursuit.
  9. Gatri is a tunnel snake! Hopefully Merida will be able to keep her out of the way in the cheese room for a while, but she'll certainly notice Jevikel isn't around to take her for the promised walk after work finishes. You are right about Jemina's death. No one will suspect anything due to her decline in health. I can promise you an exciting chapter next Thursday.
  10. Like Kadin, I reckon they're safer off Pinnacle Hold land. It's unlikely anyone would follow them into the mountains. Not worth the effort.
  11. Jevikel's knee is all right walking around the Hold, but they're embarking on something far more testing, which will cause delays,
  12. That's probably what he's been dwelling on ever since the incident happened, but Kadin is very empathic, hence being selected by the blue dragon as suitable to be Searched, along with Jevikel. Gatri is one of those small-minded people who doesn't really care about anyone apart from herself. She was probably egged on by the other girls to pressure Jevikel as well.
  13. Jemina was buried in the family plot below the Hold. Once the grave was filled in, everyone took turns in piling small stones and rocks on top of it, forming a mound over the bare soil. Jevikel had often wondered about the reason for the custom in the past. Now, with Thread falling, he understood why. Even the dead had to be protected. He still couldn’t quite believe Jemina had gone and in such an unexpected way. Ever since Kemi’s disappearance she had been steadily dwindling and he wouldn’

    Eight of Swords

Well spotted. Or he may just not want to say 'well' due to the scare he had. Plenty of holes would have been dug in the floor during the conversion, but it's only over the site of the old well that Terry gets the spooky feeling.

Some mediocre assholes act like that because deep down, they know they aren’t much good at the job. Others do it because they blame their failure on the world. Whatever Colin's reason, he'll definitely cry favoritism, even though he could just as easily have cleaned up all the rubbish and taken more pride in his job. Brenda is scared for Maurice for exactly that reason. The séance is in a couple of chapters!

    Eight of Swords

Good to have your thoughts on the mystery. Colin seems to be a popular choice as one of the killers. Maybe it's because he's such an unlikeable person.

    Eight of Swords

You've hit the nail on the head there. Brenda wouldn't be so scared if it really was all in the past. Someone must still be around to reinforce the threats.

    Eight of Swords

Colin is definitely going to cause trouble once he finds out, which will probably be the next time he's on shift. I would imagine quite a few people who have worked in the cinema may have seen the ghost. Some probably kept it quiet for fear of being thought weird. Customers avoid that seat, too and the track in the carpet proves many of them don't like the feeling of stepping over the top of the well.

Brenda is desperately trying to protect Maurice, but her task grows ever more difficult. It certainly looks as if Maurice saw more than one person putting a body down the well. Trouble is, it's eyewitness evidence for something that happened a long time ago and I doubt any of the authorities would regard Maurice as a reliable witness these days.

    Eight of Swords

Absolutely. If it hadn't been for the latest outburst, then Karen wouldn't have walked in on Dan and Terry.

As the disease progresses, Maurice is increasingly likely to say things he was too frightened to talk about for all those years.
  22. Tuesday was an uneventful day off for me. I went food shopping with Cynthia, carrying the heavier bags. Dan was working all day again. I missed him. I didn’t want to come over as needy or attention seeking so I successfully resisted the urge to text until evening. Cynthia noticed me checking my phone for the umpteenth time. ‘For God’s sake, Terry, send the man a message.’ ‘Should I? I mean, he’s at work. He probably doesn’t want me pestering him.’ ‘Have you invited him over for th

    Second Fall

Even though none of the Thread got to ground this time, there would be a lot of ash fallout from the battle above. Dragons and their riders usually end up covered in it by the end of a Fall, hence the rush to the baths/lake. Maybe I've been writing too many mysteries lately, but the more I went over this chapter, the more the possibility occurred to me that Vikkel may have been involved in Jemina's death. Possibly not in a premeditated way, but as @Timothy M.said, due to anger and frustration.

    Second Fall

    Extremely exciting towards the end!

    Second Fall

Funnily enough, when I wrote this chapter I was thinking of Prince Charles and Diana. He always loved Camilla, but was forced to marry someone else for dynastic reasons. Diana's death may have been accidental, but we've all heard plenty of conspiracy theories suggesting she was killed.
