Yes ... let's say that some videos I saw from US policing were ... indescribable, especially Taser and firearms use. I found already spelling mistakes that escaped me. Of course after publishing. Sorry!

Sergeant Ward was stressed. “I’m sorry, Jamie. I’ve heard you, but if I think that there’s an operational need, I’ll make my crewing decisions based on that.” “I just thought that I had outlined my predicament.” She sighed heavily and was visibly annoyed. “Jamie, I’ve got half the shift calling in sick, three cell watches, two court papers due tomorrow, and you’ll probably be the only unit available. So, if Mike turns up here tonight, he’ll be your crewmate. Please act like a professio

Thank you so much! I personally do not like weekly schedules. Too long and I have no patience. These two chapters have been posted as quickly as they were moderated, and as soon one comes out of moderation I submit the next.

Thank you! High praise! What is actually a preferred publishing schedule?

Thank you so much! Yes, when I first read about Special Constables I was shocked. "They let volunteers in uniform with police powers loose on the public?!?" I admit that sometimes it did not work that well, but in general, I was very positively surprised. Once you start "specialing" you are either into it or leave quickly. The time demands are great, it is a proper second job. People who seek action or thrill will very quickly be annoyed by the amount of paperwork required and leave. Most Specials are posted with neighborhood teams, and one is allowed to join a response shift as a kind of reward once or twice. Therefore, the action I describe often does not happen for Specials. I transferred to a new station where we were maximum six active Specials in one of the busiest areas of my force. There, the response shifts wanted us (well, once they had assessed we were competent), and from then on, I only did response work. That is very unusual for Specials, afaik. In later years, the personnel situation became so tight that my crewmate and I were the only unit available in our policing area... Most of us had nicknames, especially when the real name is long or lends itself to a nickname. My real name fits both of those criteria and my nick became even so ingrained that people were surprised that it was not my real name. With a surname of Artois, the nick would be the beer, no question! As for the relationship with Mike... Maybe it is me as a gay man being in a hetero world, when I am at work, I do not see my colleagues as sexual beings. And if they are attractive, I try avoiding them. First of all, I am married, but also ... why should I do that to myself? In the police, relationships also have a disciplinary impact e.g. rank/dependency. However, there is more to come which I hope will explain Jamie's motives better. Bear with me!

Thank you so much! I was worried about it being to much on the policing content, but then I thought I shall present a true view of what British Policing is.

Today, when the shift assembled in the briefing room, I’d of course noticed Mike who had waved at me enthusiastically when I entered. Luckily, there was no chance to talk to anybody because I’d just barely arrived before the Sergeant herself who took her seat at the top of the table. She began the presentation, but before finishing the first slide of the briefing, the control room was calling over the radio. “Sierra X-ray. Any unit for an immediate domestic in progress?” They woul

Actually, I had that once. Not in the police but at my main work. Someone with a different cultural background didn't get the more subtle hints, so I had to tell quite drastically after the third time he was referring to my wife.

That is a good one! Can one actually be that honest? Would you go up to a co-worker you have just met and say something to the effect of: "We have just met. I really fancy you. Would you be up for it?" Of course, probably not in those words, but that is the gist of it, isn't it? That could make work quite a problem, depending on how that person will react. Also, steering a discussion into a private direction may be an issue. In the end, this is work. A certain amount of professionalism is expected. I have a good but non-personal relationship with my colleagues. Maybe that is my being German/Norwegian. As for Jamie, I hope more of his motivations and character become clearer over the next two chapters.

Good luck in the new job! Yes, I really can't get that people need to be told that they shall treat others like they themselves would like to be treated. Teaching that should actually be the foundation of all education. Commute... what a waste of time. I am so grateful having a job I can do from home.

I can see that. No comment. I can imagine that some small station sergeants could be tyrants. We had diversity training. Lots of it. In my leaving feedback form, I wrote that diversity training came out of my ears, but they should keep it up because it worked. Btw, I offered Tim to rename the Special, but he politely declined
