Honestly its more that I just DO NOT care about Ethan or Aiden. They're such Gary Stu's, primarily Ethan, that I can't find it in me to be anything but annoyed when they show up and solve the problem perfectly. I'm writing up a full review for each book on the series so ill be shorter here, but for this specifically I found it really annoying that the one time they're shown struggling to control their powers, learning to,use them, it totally wasnt their fault. Even IF the hailstorm might have happened anyway, we as the audience don't know that. From the story its very very overtly implying that any misuse or mistake with their powers was the work of another elemental.

Oh, that's why the two didnt immediately have perfect control of their powers. It wasn't their fault, Therefor they maintain the unbroken streak of having absolutely perfect control over their powers immediately the first time they use them. Glad to see they haven't changed at all since the first chapter of the first book..... Love Aiden and Ethan...... yeah

Woah, Ethan not instantly being able to do exactly what was needed with perfect control was actually a surprise. Almost as surprising as someone who isn't a murderous psychopath not immediately liking the two. I mean it lasted for less than two chapters but it was nice while it lasted. Made them feel closer to actual characters with faults and issues, rather than "magic nice boy" and "strong leader guy" who love each other cause they do.

    Chapter 12

I was gonna be so mad that you were straight up stealing the mythology from fantasyboy69, until I saw the little bit at the end there. I read Homestead first so color me surprised when I get another history recap here.
  5. An interesting story about a college guy getting a baby dropped into his lap, and accepting help with handling that. The conflicts and struggles are primarily around Matt and Seamus' relationship, and how their pasts and present situation can strain their connection. Their characterization was mostly suitable to make them feel like actual characters rather than bland cardboard defined only by their love for each other. Mostly a chill series, with low stakes and a relaxed pacing, its much better to approach this as a slice of life style story rather than a focused plot. There were harrowing moments of emotional distress and pain that felt relevant and understandable given the character's personalities and histories, and didn't feel contrived. My only criticism is except at certain specific points, the actual physical act of dealing with a baby and the hardships felt downplayed or non existent, but that was clearly so the story could focus on the emotional toll. That comes down to personal preference in my,opinion, and might be a point in favor for the story depending on the reader. All in all, if the premise and focus sounds appealing you'll enjoy this novel.
  6. The ending felt a bit rushed, but I understand the need to wrap things up and move on. Still nice to see how the big stuff fell, no real loose ends
  7. Painful, beautiful, had me in tears so many times. 100% worth your time to ride along on this emotional roller coaster

    Chapter 44

The story was great, but the ending was a bit meh. Killing the entire pack seems...off, narratively speaking. It just kinda happens and feels strange to almost randomly kill off anywhere from 50-100 nameless faceless wolf extras in a way that has very little impact on the characters going forward. The special alpha powers werent entirely out of nowhere and fine, but having the pack die just seems unnecessary. Having Sawyer and Jada not be rabids cause a good wolf bit them again also seems like a waste. Maddie just says "hey this harrowing life threatening problem? Here's an easy solution" it just kinda feels like a cope out. If Jimmy discovered it on his own it might feel more emotionally significant but here the only reason it was EVER a problem was because Irwin was "impure". Also the whole blood purity thing, along with how facist Fergis was felt like it was setting up for a "its not about some nebulous 'purity' its about heart" thing for the final confrontation, but no its just that Jimmy had even MORE pure blood. Maddie being a wolf, even being Doris' s sister is fine. Doesn't technically come out of nowhere, but certainly thrres no way to guess it, but its fine. Overall the ending felt like you were rushing to get all the loose threads tied off in a limited number of chapters, and the contrivinces were necessary to do so. I really enjoyed the series and was on the edge of my seat for how Fergus was going to finally get his shit rocked, and I figured it'd be Jimmy taking him down and becoming alpha. The direwolf thing was cool too. Just wish the elements that made the outcome possible didn't feel like they came randomly from left field.

    Epilogue

Great series. I joked to myself early on about how if Zampfa stuck around she was going to accidently rip someone's face off, and hoped for her being Checkov's bobcat. Because of that, I was able to set aside the annoyance at keeping a wild cat as a pet. Joking aside the foreshadowing in the series was great, the plot twist both made sense within the world and as far as I can tell didn't contradict anything. A great retroactive twist to change the context of those earlier scenes. The ending feels good, if Corbin was completely seporate from the mob that would have felt weird, and having Luca vouch for him due to guilt over indirectly hurting him and his nephew was really good. Luca as a whole felt like an intimidating mob boss the whole time. We can see the humanity and love for his family and guilt, just a little, but we never see that far down. Just enough that he doesn't feel like a robot. The pacing in these stories tends to be all over the place, but I'm happy to say this worked quite well. A nice speed, slowing down at appropriate times and speeding up when the plot got hectic. Really just a solid story overall. I'm immediately starting the next.

    Chapter 1

Wow, genuinely horrifying. The idea of losing all agency, having no way of saying no, and having it happen so suddenly. He was just on the bus and then all of a sudden he had no control. He could have been raped and abused with no recourse, nothing he could do to resist. He doesnt know this person, but they have forced themself upon him for the rest of his life without his consent, and theres *nothing* he can do to change that, short of killing himself. Supremely horrifying

    Sweetest gift

Cute chapter, and an interesting cliff hanger. Just a solid series so far. Simple and clean and oh so effective
  13. To be fair there's not really a way for it not to be. Seamus is a rich 29 year old with 5 businesses, one of which Matt works for. Matt is a 21 year old college student with an 8 month old child that works as a barista. There's no avoiding how much power Seamus could exert over Matt, especially since Seamus is now ALSO Adrien's legal guardian. I don't see why he would from what hes shown as a character so far, but there's a gap in more than just their ages.
