Thank you, Okiegrad, for your thoughtful and accurate comments. You're absolutely correct: nothing in the Constitution or Bill of Rights is more important than any other point there. While many on here don't like the 2nd Amendment, nontheless it IS a guaranteed right for Americans. Yes, there are ways our system currently operates in regards to guns and gun sales that need changing - even a huge percentage of the most ardent 2nd Amendment rights proponents agree on this - but this kind of over-the-top reaction does not go well with the vast majority of Americans. Now I agree that Carlos' story includes some very valid points about free speech, and while I wouldn't have called in the ACLU as quickly as the Mayor did, the path they followed overall was fine. I don't, however, believe a high school valedictorian should be bringing up gun control in his commencement address, but then that's my opinion (which I am entitled to under the 1st ammendment). See, it works both ways - you can't have your cake and eat it too.
