  1. Zack knocked nervously on Charlotte's door, a touch surprised when she opened it herself, halfway through firmly instructing someone to stay where they were. "Zack sweetheart, come on in. Don't mind these three, they're just showing me they can be quiet for ten minutes, so you might have a little wait sorry." He was pretty sure what he was going to see in the living room; he'd been involved in this particular punishment a few times before. Three figures knelt in front of the hearth wit
  2. It was, Zack was finding, mightily irritating. He and Finn had been together for months now, and simultaneously everything was fantastic and strangely stagnant. They spent plenty of time together, recently heading out on short weekend bike rides as the spring burgeoned, and always ended up finding somewhere to sit and kiss for a while. They got to know each other, but nothing important. Zack only gently prodded at whatever Finn was so sure was an unforgivable character flaw, but despite pouring
  3. The scents of the rest of the Tribe's general good mood overcame the shame in the end; she just didn't want to be left out. They were done eating, by the smell of things, and a fire had been lit... all of these led to a shaky catgirl struggling to her feet, cringing at the rustling noise her disposable diaper made. Oh, she'd love to tear it off, she was more than capable, but the twinges from her abdomen still hadn't completely stopped and she'd been caught unawares by unpleasantness down there
  4. The closing front door woke Jinx into bleary, cramp filled reality. There was something very wrong with her middle - roiling noises and sensations left her in no doubt that both ends of her anatomy had substances they were dead set on being rid of, but one currently held clear dominance. She retched violently, a dry heave that left pain in her side as if she'd pulled a muscle, and hauled herself to a kneeling position. With the bed for support she managed two legs on the floor, but after a few s
  5. As harsh and outlandish as it seems, this is something that actually happened in UK schools as recently as the 1990s. Yup, 1998 corporal punishment finally went, I remember the news reports. Now, it wasn't as public as this since the 70s, admittedly, but it's not as far fetched as you might imagine. There are reasons within this imaginary culture that it's persisted, which will remain for the reader to deduce as more of the world background is revealed, but we won't be seeing another event this harsh. And quite bloody rightly too!
  6. How he'd ended up here was still a little confusing. Well, not why he was, but why Zack was beside him, certainly. Finn had known he should have been concentrating on getting a bit of revision done at some point over the Midwinter break, not just playing with Ghost, but he'd just accepted that he'd end up in trouble and forgotten about it. In the moment of the mock exams the first week back though, the ones Char had no idea even existed, he got scared. She would be so upset when he got the resul
  7. This is a wonderful, heartwarming story - so glad I've found it! Can't wait for more chapters, thanks for writing.

    Chapter 6

Bit of a needed wake up call for Itumak - both boys definitely need educated on the finer points of being a werewolf. Hopefully learning together will help them both - if Aaron can get past blaming Itumak for the position he's in. Love the way this story is developing!
  9. I love the reflection on everything that happens in his own mind - not just 'this turns me on' but 'why does this turn me on?' It's one of my favourite aspects of your writing. Another great chapter!

    Calm

Charlotte returned almost an hour later, having somehow managed to get her clothes off to take the shivering Ghost into the shower as he still clung to her. She'd dried his hair in her room - the mahogany brush was overkill for the kit's head size but did the job. By the time they settled in an armchair downstairs, Char in the familiar velvety bathrobe he had first felt on Finn, the catboy was approaching his former state of mind. She sat him down on her knee, ignoring the occupants of the sofa
  11. “Lynestra, preserve me in your golden glow. Lumara, grant me sanctuary from the creatures that pervert your name…” The prayers tumbled from his lips, a life of supplication to the gods called up in a moment of terror. I really do love your use of language! Missed this somehow before starting Amber Waves - looks like this will fill some gaps!
  12. The girl gritted her teeth as hard as she could, painfully so, glaring into the corner in self disgust as she sat bare bottomed on a small wooden stool. A folded belt still lay on the bed behind her as her young mind embraced the sting left by its' lashes. She was currently entirely alone in the house, had been for a while; this particular whipping was entirely self inflicted, having been delivered as she lay over the pile of pillows still stacked next to the leather implement. For once, this ha
  13. Charlotte couldn't help but be impressed by Jinx - she'd made a pretty admirable intuitive leap for a kitten her age really. Having retrieved her own black little plushie toy from her room, she'd put it side by side with the white one and was currently tracing a finger along the writing on each, declaring 'Jinx' and 'Ghost' as she did. If an avatar of Imara of Clear Thought Herself had manifested in the living room and declared it to be so, Char still wouldn't believe the pale brunette could act

    A Check Up

Not sure why but the site hasn't flagged this as a new chapter despite it updating yesterday, hoping adding this note will let those of you following it know it's here...
  15. Zack trudged through the snow, breath misting in the icy afternoon air and all but totally convinced that this was a monumentally stupid idea. His cousin Beccy had quizzed him about why he didn't seem to have any friends coming over during the holidays and he was pretty sure his parents had put her up to it. They were just concerned about him settling in, he knew that, but it was still a bit humiliating to have adults trying to organise playdates for you at sixteen years old. He kicked at a disc

    Chapter 31

I was enjoying it a lot; I do think that it suffered from having been a speed writing towards the end - I don't think your style of writing lends itself in that direction. Left to your own pace the characters develop beautifully, and it's worth breaks in writing to get the story you want to tell. Adam certainly suffered (being introduced later in the story, he was likely to). No insult or comment on you intended - I couldn't speed write if my life depended on it. All that said, I did enjoy it, especially the first half. Hurt/comfort/forgiveness and having initial assumptions challenged always appeal in a story. Thank you for writing!

    Chapter 24

I think you're right not to, I don't either. I suspect Dr Marin may have been taken in by a very manipulative young man.

    Chapter 23

At one time Blake trusted Adam. He got used to Adam not hurting him. Even after being so betrayed, he fell into that rhythm again, putting far too much faith in a half plausible reason. It's a facet of autism; I totally get his reactions, even if it's heartbreaking and I just want to yell through the page to him. As for Blake, I'd agree right now he's too unstable for a relationship, but he's on his own journey too and knows it. Let's see where he ends up mentally.

    Chapter 20

He wanted to save them all, to give them all a better home. They didn’t deserve to be crammed in a tank they could barely swim in. There's an analogy and a half! Poor Blake. Adam might want to address his trauma/actions but doesn't get that his road is different to Blake's - there's no way the guy should just be confronted by that. Autism will exacerbate it; he must be terrified.

    Chapter 16

The friend he thought had abandoned him when he started living with his uncle. Erith doesn't remember she's dead. Valen must be juggling so much; Lynn has to be protected from everything, Erith has to be shielded from hints of a totally different trauma. Add in the fact he can't pick and choose when to come to the fore intelligently because Gara is all instinct - no wonder he's frustrated!

    Chapter 12

The new alter actually manifesting as a personality in charge at this precise moment is fascinating; I'm imaging it vary rarely is. Valen won't let Lynn out unless it's safe, Lynn won't come out unless they feel safe, which means every single aspect of Erith we know of is comforted by Blake's presence.

    Chapter 1

Shielded by a crystalline enclosure harder than diamonds. You are is secure in an impenetrable fortress of solitude, a refuge that only you can reach…sadly, there is no longer room for any passengers, not that any would go. The language, the second person voice, all of it - so powerful. The above struck me so hard it took a few attempts to finish the paragraph. Beautifully done.

    Chapter 1

Actually laughed aloud at some of the unexpected turns of phrase in this one - very rare for me and always very welcome. Loved this story, wonderfully constructed. Thank you for sharing!

    Chapter 1

Turns out this can still put a smile on your face in mid January... wonderful story, and a belated merry Christmas as happy new year to you!
