I get it. My first story here was 115k when I didn’t think I could do more than what would qualify as a short story, although a couple before that on nifty were 40 or 50k maybe. Once I get into a story, it usually goes on longer than first imagined. Current one will end around 80k with a book two already being considered. I doubt I could ever reach 250k for a single story, so I guess I’m a little jealous that others can.
I don’t know why, but I pictured Trace as an imposing figure, a Trace Adkins type, 6’6” and stocky. A man like that going to talk to Joel’s parents may very well force them to say they made a mistake, not mean it, and figuratively kick Joel in the teeth one more time. On to chapter 3!
Very late to the game like the last couple commenters. I joined GA just after 23’s SA contest, so I missed this one until I got all caught up on what I’ve been reading. Anyway, glad to see there is more. This was definitely a great start.
Short, but sweet. A story about two ships that pass in the night, each initially lost. They travel together for a short while and that time affects both of their life’s paths.
Definitely right about Sandy’s parents. I won’t spoil how at least one of her parents deal with everything.
Gavin has definitely learned his lesson.
There is definitely hope for Jeff as well. One of his classmates, not so much.
Yes, it is reasonable to have some sympathy for Sandy. Like the rest of us, what she was, was at least partially a product of her home environment.
I’m glad you liked the Thanksgiving interlude. Christmas is coming.
Tuesday
Judge Walter Melton called the hearing to order.
“Ms. Warden, do you wish the charges be reviewed?”
“Yes, Your Honor.”
“Ms. Davis, if you would?”
"Yes, Your Honor. The defendant has been accused of simple assault as a hate crime against a person in a protected category and sexual assault. She allegedly knocked a blind boy to the ground, sat on him, and rubbed her private parts in his face. Additionally, a charge of statutory rape has been filed by another party."
