-- Chapter Five -- Morning came, grey and cool, with magpies carolling right outside, or perhaps they could have even been inside, given that the place that Jake and Danny called home was still missing several walls. The bird’s song ricocheted off the corrugations and made the tank ring like a bell. With a groan, Jake rolled over, with his gaze settling upon Danny and Nate, wrapped up in each other’s arms and dreaming peacefully. Many men would see something wrong with their lo

-- Chapter Four -- Lunch was served beneath the shade of the tarpaulins, once Danny had retrieved his shopping from the back of the panel van. On the timber bench that served as a counter, Danny laid out the makings of their Ploughman’s lunch. Thick, roughly cut slices of bread were soon slathered with farm-produced butter, then topped with slices of ripe, farm-grown tomatoes. Sliced meat and farm-made relish were added, followed by cheese, and more salad. Crown that with anothe

@Summerabbacat oh, baby let your blue jeans talk, I say! haha I'm not really sure when the solar thing kicked off with them, but the Rainbow Power Company was established in Nimbin by a bunch of hippies LONG before solar power became a "thing" in mainstream Australia (I just looked it up ... they were established in 1987 ... but their alt power movement started before that I think). And yeah, I guess if you tried doing the commune thing these days, there would be that much government intervention you'd end up wanting to put a bomb under them! MP

Thank you. And I am pretty sure you will like these guys ... and the roller coaster ride ahead!

I would think something more like Woodstock, though nowhere near as big ... and not as much music. lol I think @Paladin is right with his comment about the song from Hair. I was 10 years old in 1973 and had a (pretty cool) primary school teacher who had us singing those songs! I have fond memories of that part of my childhood! 🙂

-- Chapter Three -- It was only a short while later when Danny drove the van through an open gateway, on either side of which were old and weathered timber rails, one of which had been broken in the middle with the two pieces sagging down in a sad fashion. On one side of the gateway there was a post, leaning slightly sideways, upon which sat a steel drum, a mailbox, now going rusty. The drum had once been white, with the name Kandanga Falls painted on the side of it in red, but

A couple of classics there @Summerabbacat. Thank you for the memories. I was particularly fond of Crystal. ❤️ This one is only a short one, designed (on purpose) simply as a stepping stone to help set up things for the real sequel to Seventeenth Summer and have Dear Reader thinking about what might happen later, based on the events of this little vignette. Remaining chapters will be posted next Monday and Friday, then the following Wednesday ... just spaced out slightly more than other stories were. Not sure *exactly* how many chapters there will be, as I haven't quite finished it yet, but there won't be too many more than that. ☮️🤔🦘😋

@Summerabbacat Sshhh!!! Don't tell Primrose I plagiarised her! LOL Interesting song. Quite catchy, but I was particularly taken by 'the boyfriend' in the video!

-- Chapter Two -- When Nate woke the following morning, to sunlight streaming through the bare windows of the caravan and birdsong filling the morning air outside, he quickly realised that he was alone. He couldn’t recall Skye having left him through the night, but he could recall almost every other detail: the touch of her skin against his, the faint smell of flowers in her hair, the taste of her lips on his, the feel of her hand on his youthful hardness as she guided him into

😍 @Lynx003 there most definitely is!

Have had the occasional one ... or a scotch and dry, but that's about it. Oh, there was one cold, misty night many years ago when a group of us horse riders were all huddled around a campfire and shivering, when some kind soul produced a bottle of Bailey's!!! That certainly hit the spot ... but that's about as far as my experiences with alcohol have extended! MP

@Summerabbacat but I don't even drink! LOL
-
@Summerabbacat I guess I'll just have to check it out now! LOL MP
-
@Summerabbacat actually, no!!! I had no idea. As I recall, I came up with the name when I heard/saw/read about one that was quite similar, and just changed a couple of letters to create Kandanga. I think the original was in fact something to do with kangaroos, but I can't remember exactly what it was now...

@Paladin I suspect you might be right there! lol

Hmmmm... interesting question. I can't really recall being uber-attracted to any singers really, though I did think that Eric and Derek from BCR were pretty cute. And yeah, Leif and Shaun. And there was something appealing about the Beach Boys and those sort of guys. I guess a lot of those pop singers from the 70s, even though I loved the music, were just a bit too weird to think about in 'that' way. LOL Of the females, ONJ was a standout for me.
-
@Summerabbacat aaahhhhh, the memories! Remember them all ... even if I wasn't a fan of them all at the time! lol I do remember the guilty feelings of furtively listening to and enjoying the Bay City Rollers ... and hoping I wouldn't get found out by any of "the guys" !!! LOL
-
@Summerabbacat not until I played it, then I recognised it. Wouldn't have been able to say who the singer was though. haha!

@Summerabbacat ahhhh! Yeah baby!!! LOL

-- Chapter One -- The old school bus rattled and shook with each passing mile, as it headed north along the narrow road that led to the small, rainbow coloured, town of Nimbin. With each bump in the sometimes bitumen – though sometimes dirt – road, Nate’s guts were churning. It had been more than a year since Danny and Jake had left Thompsonville, and while he had seen them a couple of times since then, briefly, this was the first time he would be visiting them in the place they had made th

We first met Nate and Danny in The Seventeenth Summer. Best friends forever, but then Danny fell in love a year ago, and left Nate behind. Nate couldn't blame him; after all, who wouldn't want to escape Thompsonville, but that didn't change his feelings. One year on, it's Nate's turn to escape, but first he needs to see Danny, perhaps for the last time. Can he finally tell his best friends how he really feels? Or is it time to finally spread his own wings and experience life for himself? Or perhaps, life has other things in store for him? The only way to find out, will be to find out what happens in Kandanga Falls.

@weinerdog I do sometimes believe that @Summerabbacats imagination is even more fertile than mine! 🤣🤣🤣
-
@Summerabbacat your flattery is ... errr ... flattering. And as fast as there being a wealthy branch of the Peters family, I think they must be on another branch of the family tree! lol And ONJ... yeah, we'll definitely use that song in the movie! lol

@Summerabbacat to which one are you referring? 😋
