From the moment that Matt and Luke finished their song the whole atmosphere of the night changed, which, I have to say, really surprised me. Spirits were lifted and the previously rather reserved crowd began to let their hair down a little. ‘Okay then, who’s next?’ Matt called out, while offering the microphone to anyone who was brave enough to have a go. In the end the baton was passed to two of their old friends, Dwayne and DJ, who reluctantly stepped up onto the stage, after conside

Mrs Hamilton’s desserts were triumphant, as always, with not a crumb being left of either her pavlova or lemon meringue pie, while a fair-sized dent was made in all of the others as well. I, of course, over-indulged and afterwards felt like wandering off to some place quiet to sleep it off. That wasn’t going to happen, however, as once the plates and dishes were cleared away someone decided to turn up the volume of the music and really bring the party to life. At Mike’s insistence I di

So great to see Josh settling into a normal family life and receiving so much support! And satay chicken! Yumm! What time should we come around? 😁

Hmmm . . . maybe one day! (I have no plans for that to happen just yet . . . but never say never! lol) MP

Following my little chat with Matt’s dad, Matt Snr, he wandered off in search of his wife, so I decided to do a little mingling amongst the guests, starting with those who were sitting closest to me, being Luke, Samantha, Mrs Hamilton and her two boys, Dan and Jake. I gave Mrs H. a hug and told her I was so glad she came. I’ve always had a soft spot for the lady, as she has always been so good to all of us. I remember Luke telling me years ago how, right from the time they first arrived her

I think I have the others too, somewhere in my tape collection. 80? Wow. But I guess that's about right. She was in the New Christy Minstrels with Kenny (still my all time favourite singer) ... and they worked magic with Don't Fall In Love With a Dreamer!

‘It’s great to see you again,’ Paul said. ‘And especially here, in Thompsonville.’ ‘Yeah, it’s great to see you also,’ I replied, before shifting my gaze to his companion, a rather bookish-looking, young man who wasn’t quite as tall as Paul, and was as pale-skinned and dark-haired as Paul was blond and tanned. ‘Oh, sorry. Excuse my manners, this is Damien,’ Paul offered. Damien and I shook hands, but he didn’t say much. I had the impression he may have been slightly overawed by the who

As it turned out, there was no possible way I could have realistically made a quick getaway once the completion of my duties had been carried out, even if I’d tried. After having been involved in the way I had been, even I could see that it would have appeared quite rude to bail halfway through the proceedings, so I resumed my seat and sat there under the hot January sun for the remaining presentations. The next award to be presented was a special bravery award, which was handed to the youn

‘Ladies and Gentlemen, boys and girls,’ Rick Campbell began, ‘It gives me great pleasure to welcome you here today, to these wonderful celebrations which mark the founding of this great nation.’ He was already sounding like a typical politician, so I was already fearful of just what this was going to turn into. ‘It was on this day, in the Year of our Lord of 1788, and under the command of Captain Arthur Phillip, when the First Fleet arrived safely at Sydney Cove, after setting out from

@pickuptoy thank you so much for your very kind words. There is another story after T'ville, which is "A Good Place" (posting on here currently), and there is another story in the works for this series ... though quite a way off being posted anywhere as yet, so stay tuned!

‘So, was that a friend of yours?’ Carol asked as I rejoined her. ‘Never seen him before in my life,’ I replied. ‘I saw him earlier, when we were doing the interview. He was watching us for a little while, but after we got started I didn’t take that much notice of him then.’ ‘I think he’s one of my lot,’ I offered, which received a questioning look. ‘He wanted to know if my story was true, and did I really get thrown out.’ ‘So, you think he’s gone through the same thing?’

@Lee Wilson thank you very much! And so, do we know who this mystery author is yet? lol

It didn’t take long to find the rest of the crew that would be filming today’s events, with a group of suitably equipped people, led by Guy, soon making their way through the crowd and finding us at the spot where he suggested we wait. Apart from Guy, there was a long-haired camera-toting man, a well-presented and smartly-dressed young woman, who was carrying a microphone, along with a second young man, who was carrying several aluminium boxes slung from his shoulder with black webbing stra

@Paladin thank you!

Compared to my last Australia Day spent in Thompsonville, even I have to admit that this one outdid that day easily. For starters the crowd was much larger, as well as there being many more activities, food stalls and entertainers than I had ever seen before. Even the local Aboriginal community and their Invasion Day protest, with their distinctive red, black and yellow flags, and hand painted placards, only seemed to add to the spectacle that this day had become. ‘So, what do you think?’ L

@Ivor Slipper my old man used to say that mum "wouldn't say SHIT for a sixpence", now, with all these US movies and tv shows the f-bombs are like water off a ducks back. Oh, she doesn't use them, she just doesn't batt and eyelid at them any more! LOL

@VBlew you say the nicest things! Thank you so much!

When I awoke in the morning the sun was shining brightly on the khaki-coloured walls of the tent, bathing our canvas bedroom in an almost-eerie golden-green glow. I looked sideways and my eyes soon fell on the still sleeping form of Aaron, his mouth slightly open and his eyelids fluttering ever so slightly, no doubt a result of whatever adventure his mind was taking him on in dreamland. He was naked . . . we both were . . . having slept on top of the air mattress, totally uncovered. Glancin

@Summerabbacat my lips are sealed. No amount of tickling will make me reveal the plot! You hear me? 🤣🤣🤣

It was while I was inside the guesthouse with Aaron a short time later that we heard a second vehicle arrive. We knew that the floodgates would soon open, with people set to come from everywhere, so we both headed outside to greet whomever it was who had pulled up this time. ‘Well, I’ll be damned!’ I said as soon as I stepped out into the late afternoon sunshine. ‘And it’s so nice to see you again too, Tony,’ my Uncle Tom said. It was Luke’s father, whose wife, my Aunt Helen, was my mo
