  1. @CincyKris hmmmm . . . wild! lol But all will be revealed, I can promise you that! 😁
  2. @Gary L thank you!
  3. Thanks @Summerabbacat I think you will find there will be quite a few confronting chapters as the story continues 😉
  4. -- Chapter Eight -- At the sound of my raised voice the inspector had entered the squad room; just in time to see my breakfast come up. ‘I’m sorry, Rick,’ Helen said to me. ‘But it was a question that had to be asked.’ Pulling my handkerchief from my pocket I managed to wipe my face, as the two of them looked on. ‘Go get yourself cleaned up, Cooper. Then I want the two of you in my office.’ ‘Yes, sir,’ Helen replied, for the both of us. The inspector took one more l
  5. @Summerabbacat that pretty much nailed it! lol
  6. @Paladin yes. I have it in a collection of the authors stories.
  7. @Summerabbacat thank you for that. I think I need to watch it now ... good, bad or indifferent. As for Brokeback, I have watched it a few times, but it's not a movie that I can say I really enjoyed ... endured might be a better word! LOL
  8. @Summerabbacat I haven't seen it, but have read about it, and perhaps guys like us wouldn't find it "politically challenging" or as "shocking" as the mainstream population, is because to us it was "the norm" ... we were actually living it?
  9. @Summerabbacat let's not go too deep here. I think it just seemed like a good number to use! lol
  10. A very thoughtful response, as always @Summerabbacat . Thank you! ❤️
  11. @weinerdog unless, of course, I get in first! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XfR9iY5y94s

  13. -- Chapter Seven -- The trip back to my unit was largely uneventful. I sat in the passenger seat of Adam’s car, watching my own reflection in the window, while outside I could see the city coming alive with light and colour, as the night took hold once more. My head was spinning; filled with doubts and fears and images of people I hardly knew lying dead beside the dark waters of the harbour. Intermingled with these were thoughts of friends that were long gone, thoughts of new friends
  14. -- Chapter Six -- It wasn’t hard to find where it was that Alexis had been pulled from the harbour. All we had to do once we had reached the Opera House entrance was follow an ambulance with lights flashing and sirens blaring that was trying to push its way through the late afternoon crowds. When we made it to the forecourt, we could see more flashing lights sitting atop a number of patrol cars parked on the far side of the plaza. There was also a rather large crowd of people milling a
  15. @Summerabbacat oh no. There's nothing stereotypical about you! No sirree!! 😋
  16. -- Chapter Five -- He had been somewhat reticent at first, and it had taken a little bit of coaxing to get Shane to open up to us, but once he had started there was no stopping him, and he was soon talking freely and giving us everything we needed. By the time we were finally done, about an hour and a half later, we knew just about everything that had happened to him since he had first met up with Jarvis; which had been just after he had run away from home, about six months beforehand.
  17. @everyone... Loving all the speculation guys! Hopefully this means I haven't made it too obvious what is going to unfold in this story. 😉 I know some of you are anxious to see where it is all heading. If you really can't wait for each chapter to be posted, I guess you could always head over to my website, where there is a link to where the E-Book is available (hint, hint) 😀 MP
  18. -- Chapter Four -- ‘What? Hasn’t he even called in, or anything?’ Helen asked the girl, sounding quite surprised when she was told that Alexis hadn’t shown up for work. The girl simply shook her head, then asked if we wanted to order anything. Helen didn’t answer immediately, the deep furrow across her brow indicating that her thoughts were elsewhere, so I asked her for two cappuccinos to take away. ‘So, what do you think that’s all about?’ I asked when the girl left us to

    Chapter 16

@Paladin GREAT chapter. Very well done. Now I need a cup of tea and a TimTam ... oh, wait! I don't have any! Guess I'll just have to settle for a Mint Slice (a favourite in our house! lol).
  24. -- Chapter Three -- In the dark hours well before dawn, I watched as the pale curtains framing the open doorway that led out onto the balcony wafted gently in and out of the entrance, drifting like two restless spirits in the night. I lay there wide awake, watching shadows flit across the naked, uncovered body of my companion. I had been woken by yet another nightmare, but things were alright now. I knew where I was, reassured by the rhythmic sounds of his breathing, while from outside
  25. @Paqman Wow! Very nice pick up! Thank you! After all these years I never noticed that. Now fixed here. Shane it is! 🤔
